Oh, @WearyAuldWumman that sounds so frustrating. Hopefully your delivery will be fine.
My knee fell apart spectacularly. I thought a little cycle at gym would be good for my feet. It was, but the knee blew up within a couple of minutes, it's obviously more serious than I thought. So bloody cross.

Oh heck, @Happleandhorange . I'm guessing that you're using ice packs at the moment?

BitOutOfPractice · 02/11/2025 12:49

Sorry to barge in without reading back. I’m having a bit of a panic.

Ive just taken a pre-workout supplement and had a quite alarming reaction. I understand this is a common reaction to the beta-alanine in the supplement - bright red face, the most alarming itching all over. It was horrid.

does anyone have a recommendation to stop this reaction and do you know of a good pre-workout without beta-alanine?

Thank you! I feel very wired too! 😬

WearyAuldWumman · 02/11/2025 12:56

Sorry - I don't have info about that supplement.

I only use caffeine - in a coffee - prior to my workouts and then have a bowl of soup with creatine powder stirred through afterwards.

@BitOutOfPractice i wonder if an anti-histamine would work? Something like for hay fever

Good idea. I recall taking anti-histamine when I had a reaction to a cortisone injection. (I had a face like a furnace.)

BitOutOfPractice · 02/11/2025 13:49

Yes I’ve taken an antihistamine. But I’ve since read that it’s not an allergic reaction as such. Redness (my face is a tomato colour!), itching, tingling.

BitOutOfPractice · 02/11/2025 13:59

Thank you @WearyAuldWumman - so it’s a Thing and more common in women than men. The itching has subsided but I’m still tomato coloured! 🍅

Edited

It took a long time for my cortisone face to go down, I recall - I looked like someone with a significant alcohol problem.

Placestogo · 02/11/2025 19:09

Hot yoga class ✔️

Alittlefrustrated · 02/11/2025 19:37

Hope your knee's not as bad as it seems Happleandhorange.
BitOutOfPractice - 🤞you wake up your normal colour tomorrow.
1 hour Line Dance class today. Very fast and sweaty.
191.

Happleandhorange · 03/11/2025 00:55

Oh my goodness, @BitOutOfPractice what a scare! I had a gym smoothie with something in it once that sent my blood sugar really low. Apparently diabetics shouldn't take it but how was I to know?

@WearyAuldWumman - yes, ice until today. Now physio has recommended gym sauna and cold shower, alternating. The knee isn't anything serious, thank goodness. It is strained muscles from the peculiar version of leg extension she made me too. Five days without any lower body workout, and see me in a week.

Happleandhorange · 03/11/2025 01:11

There is more gym drama at my end.

I went from physio to gym. Physio said I could only exercise upper body. Only use ski erg if seated.
So I came into gym with my stick and asked one of the PTs if she would move one of the boxes so I could sit on it. Explained I was injured and physio had said I needed to use ski erg seated.
She moved it, and said, very aggressively, but why are you using it? Why are you not on the machines? I said simply "warm up." And she made a face and a disgusted noise, and walked off!
Now this woman happens I know to be good friends with the PT I just complained about. So I think the chances are she recognised me and took the opportunity for a bit of retaliation. Yes, I have complained to gym management. They'll be fed up hearing from me.

That's appalling, @Happleandhorange .

Alittlefrustrated · 03/11/2025 20:42

1 hour pilates class
192.
I've seen a recording of our dance performance on Saturday and I'm going on a diet and increasing my exercise intensity 😳

FurForksSake · 03/11/2025 20:46

Hydrotherapy for me today, therapist really pushed me so I am feeling it already! I have surgery a week on Friday so I don’t have long left to build some muscle up beforehand.

Happleandhorange · 03/11/2025 21:16

Haha to recording, I can imagine!
Good luck with surgery @FurForksSake , I cannot believe it's here already.

stilldumdedumming · 03/11/2025 22:18

I accidentally sold my car so I won’t be able to get to my usual classes and I will need to be extra disciplined.
Started with Pilates at home today

WearyAuldWumman · 03/11/2025 22:35

Managed to get a Pilates cancellation, so attended the class - 45 minutes. The foot seemed to cope okay, but I didn't want to jinx things by trying a gym workout.

I'm booked in for the 30 minute Stretch class tomorrow, so shall attempt a gym workout after that.

PS My delivery arrived 5 minutes before I left the house.

Happleandhorange · 04/11/2025 03:09

Brilliant news about class and foot, @WearyAuldWumman. I am off to gym in half an hour or so. I shall go on ski erg again, and do the sauna/cold shower combo (if I can face it). If I make it, it will be 56.

Happleandhorange · 04/11/2025 07:19

56 achieved. I did lots of sensible floor work and am thinking of investing in a massage gun, does anyone have one they can recommend?
@stilldumdedumming , how can you accidentally sell a car? Need to know so I don't do that to mine.

stilldumdedumming · 04/11/2025 07:28

😁 I went to the car wash and sold it to the car wash guy! It’s not worth much and I am getting a PIP car before they make any drastic changes to the scheme (dp is disabled with brain damage). So it was opportunistic rather than accidental I suppose but a bit quicker than anticipated. I can get the bus to the swimming pool etc but not do that and work! Hoping I don’t have too long to wait for a new car…

Happleandhorange · 04/11/2025 08:14

That makes sense! My car is a disability one. I,do hope you get a good one through PIP.

Comtesse · 04/11/2025 13:16

More exercise videos, back from hols so cycling to and from work again.

My new addition isometric exercises (wall squats and planks specifically) - listened to a Dr Michael Mosley “Just One Thing” episode on the impact of these exercises on blood pressure. I’m on BP tablets at the moment, maybe I could reduce them over time? Prob good to add in more weight bearing exercise anyway….
