@stilldumdedumming Thank you. Yes - calf raises and leg presses are completely out unless I reach the stage where I'm satisfied that the foot is fine. I'm going light on all legwork.

I'm going to go back to using bands for thighs - my osteopath advised me that I need to exercise the sideways plane for my dodgy knees and the gym doesn't have an adductor or abductor machine. (That's why I was using the leg press - high up, wide stance to target the inner thighs.)

If I ever go back to them, I'll never again go as heavy with the calf raise weights. I was stupid - I've lost 30lbs. I added enough of the 7.5 kg weights to compensate for my lost fat and then got overconfident. Each time it seemed easy I added more weight until finally I was using 45 kg. Crazy.

I have an orthotics review appointment in December so I'll see what the chap at the hospital says. He's fairly blunt - which is good. It was he who scolded me for wearing wide-fit plimsolls and he pointed me in the direction of an online firm that sells wide-fit trainers. They're much more supportive and more comfortable than the plimsolls ever were - I only wore them because I couldn't get my post-op feet into ordinary trainers.

In the meantime, I'll concentrate on trying to build abdominals and improving my arm muscles. I can now do a proper dead bug instead of a modified one - I reckon that the pilates has helped a lot in that respect.

Did my usual morning session, had been going to cancel when I was up at 3am unable to sleep, but glad I went.

Happleandhorange · 22/10/2025 10:32

Great to hear you are protecting those precious feet. Keep it up.

I'm not 100 per cent. Pelvic floor physio yesterday which was not fun. So went to gym very briefly to do stretches and a 12 min bike ride.

WearyAuldWumman · 22/10/2025 22:36

45 min Senior Flex class - warm up, free weights - arm raises, shoulder presses, low rows, sit to stand with weight, wall press-ups, cardio, stretches.

45 min Active for Health class - SPARC warm up; 90 seconds dead bug; side dips and twists with 9kg; thigh exercise using yoga ball; biceps curl, wrist curls with 4kg.

Happleandhorange · 23/10/2025 10:00

Yes, solidarity to exercising whilst injured from here! @MotherForkinShirtBalls I am so sorry for your sore shoulder. @stilldumdedumming I'm impressed by needle therapy although yuck to triggering.

I have really struggled since last Friday when my shoulder flared up, so gone right back to basics. Today was a half hour of gentle cardio plus stretches. It feels wildly frustrating but it also feels like all I can do safely, I don't want to trigger one of my extreme fatigue reactions.
But I went, which is the important bit.

WearyAuldWumman · 23/10/2025 11:36

Have had to miss Musical Theatre class. Managed to get nurse appointment, but it clashed with class.

Went to bank, just outside town mall. Merely walking down a slope triggered my tendonitis. Grrr.

Thought I was doing well after yesterday’s exercise.

BitOutOfPractice · 23/10/2025 11:43

It really is @Happleandhorange and well done for that. Keep up the habit! Hope your shoulder starts to behave itself.

this week I have done Monday PT session (I jumped on and off A box - with these knees! It’s a miracle I tell ya!)

Tuesday: a run and yoga

Wednesday: spin

Thursday is my rest day but I’m hoping get into a sound bath later so I at least get to the gym. I walked to work through the storm this morning and will Walk back home too.

Alittlefrustrated · 23/10/2025 15:26

Managed a very quick 6.30 swim - 36 x25m. Swam so fast (for me) that I had sea legs for a minute when I got out.
1 hr pilates class

Wow, I'm in awe of those struggling on with injuries. That's normally when I give up!😁
I just did my usual 10kish steps Tues, wed and today was my steps with weight training and cardio. I do feel like I'm in abit of a rut though, I love my morning routine but keep feeling like i should add something.....just no idea what!

stilldumdedumming · 23/10/2025 22:13

@WearyAuldWumman you will get there. Be patient knowing it’s part of getting more active.

@BitOutOfPractice (really tried to @boopthere - which nn and gong is still going strong on TA thread) I am all for just turning up. It’s sometimes enough.
no exercise for me today. Couldn’t get up this morning. Work all day and then my friend took me out for a slap up vegan banquet tonight. I am feeling lucky.

Happleandhorange · 24/10/2025 00:42

Thanks for solidarity and encouragement from all. I was a bit miserable yesterday about it all but feeling more on top of things today.
Great that you have a nurse appointment booked, Weary. A bit of professional guidance now will probably save recovery time longterm. You've been doing so amazingly well and have achieved so much, try to see this as a bump on the road not the end of everything!

I had first proper PT appointment today. I've booked and paid for three in advance. Today was assessment - what hurts, what doesn't, what I can and can't do safely etc. It was good, and I think she was pleasantly surprised by how flexible and strong I was, the last three months have clearly done some good. Next week we'll set up the programme. She does talk a lot though!

  1. HURRAY. I will have cake. Not yet, though. I am currently at doctors waiting forever in a long queue.
BitOutOfPractice · 24/10/2025 11:28

@stilldumdedumming Im glad the BOOPing continues on TA thread. I only dip in and out there now.

Quick run for me today at the gym. I’m quite enjoying working my way through the guided runs on the swanky new treadmills there.

WearyAuldWumman · 24/10/2025 15:40

I see my osteopath on Thursday, so shall see what she says about the tendon problem. I sometimes feel it affecting the leg too. Grrr.

No gym today - decided to give it a rest. Trying to figure out how to do a warm up without using my legs. There's a new machine in the gym which seems to be arms only. Shall try to find one of the staff members to help me.

I absolutely have to work round this - I can't afford to slide backwards.

Alittlefrustrated · 24/10/2025 17:14

8 mile coastal walk. My hips and left achilles are complaining.

stilldumdedumming · 24/10/2025 17:44

No proper exercise but 3 miles around the zoo. My legs are complaining. A bit sad at how hard it was but I should be able to build it up.

Happleandhorange · 25/10/2025 07:31

@WearyAuldWumman - have you tried the ski erg? Alternatively, depending on where the tendonitis is, cycling could be a good option.

WearyAuldWumman · 25/10/2025 14:13

I haven't. Shall look into that. Cycling might work.

Part of the problem on Wednesday, I think, was that I couldn't access a bike or treadmill (walking only) for warm-up and foolishly used the SPARC for two minutes.

I'll try to get to the gym when it's not so busy tomorrow.

Alittlefrustrated · 25/10/2025 14:42

90 minute dance class - our last practice before we perform to an audience. Started off great, but by the end of class it was a complete shambles 😳
I'm going to practice all week and then not look at anyone else on the day. I'm at the front which will help. If I go wrong it'll be all on me 😂
186.

MotherForkinShirtBalls · 25/10/2025 19:10

Dance show sounds fun, frustrated.

I had a physio appointment and sea dip yesterday, s&c class this morning.

Wow, it was cold for a sea dip yesterday MotherForkinShirtBalls!
