Anyone want to join me?
Yes I know it’s an oldie but I did it about 15 years ago and it was really effective.
I’ve just done day one and the weights and abs stuff weren’t too bad but the cardio nearly killed me, I’m more unfit than I realised.

Yes I think it will make you more toned. I found it particularly good on my upper arms and my thighs.

ImwaitingforMadeleine · 13/02/2026 20:20

That’s good to know

Saggyoldclothbody · 15/02/2026 11:46

L2D3 complete after a hiatus whilst we had some work done on the house - I am neither an early morning or late evening exerciser.

I hope the hip/leg are still improving @IDareSay ?

@ImwaitingforMadeleine I’ve never managed daily, and although I’ve got the DVD from when it came out, someone upthread linked to a copy on the Dailymotion website and I watch it on the Brave browser on my iPad to avoid adverts. The level 1 link

IwanttotakeyoutoaNailaBar · 15/02/2026 12:08

I used to do the DsilyMotion one but could never figure out how to lose the adds. DS got a DVD player working. The routines are much quicker and easier without all the stops!

I skipped Level 2. I like Level 3 although it makes me really sweaty. Today will be week 3. Not noticed much change but I’ve been eating badly the last 2 week.

L3D2

Saggyoldclothbody · 15/02/2026 12:55

Were you trying to watch it on the Brave browser @IwanttotakeyoutoaNailaBar ? There is a setting - is it Brave rewards - which might run the ads so you have to switch that off. If you’ve got a dvd player working that’s great. I have to use a combination of the 27 remote controls for our tv and it’s beyond me 😀

Candleabra · 15/02/2026 13:00

Can I join in?
I did the whole 30DS before Xmas and was thrilled with the results. i had planned to move onto a different Gillian workout but then Christmas happened…. So I’m back to the start.
L1D1 completed today and planning on doing it almost every day.

IDareSay · 15/02/2026 13:07

Thanks @Saggyoldclothbody yes things continue to improve so fingers crossed I can get back to Jillian soon!

Seeing physio again this week so will take her advice. Meanwhile, exercising vicariously through the rest of you so keep the updates coming 😆

IwanttotakeyoutoaNailaBar · 15/02/2026 16:55

@Saggyoldclothbody I was just using a browser on the laptop. I don’t have Brave or any other of the TV services. I know exactly what you mean by 27 remotes !

Good @IDareSay. I am glad you are staying motivated. Don’t rush into it though- I overdid exercise after my foot op and still paying the price several years later.

I am post menopause and my skin is bulgy and crepey. Desperate to get rid of a weird bit of loose skin on upper arm/armpit. Hoping a few muscles will help.

IDareSay · 15/02/2026 17:03

Thanks @IwanttotakeyoutoaNailaBar I will abide by the advice of the physio as she has got me somewhat mobile, though whether it is time/massage/ acupuncture who knows but it’s working and I generally feel better on the way out than I did on the way in.

As to the crepey and bulgy upper arm bits, Jillian has worked wonders on those for me and I will be very happy to go sleeveless this summer. I’m in my early 60’s so it is quite miraculous.

The lack of exercise has so far not affected my arms but my goodness my belly has very quickly gone very soft again so I’m looking forward to getting back to ab work more than anything.

IwanttotakeyoutoaNailaBar · 15/02/2026 17:10

@IDareSay sounds like you are made of tough stuff.
Thanks for the reassurance over arms . I shall stick with it then.

Candleabra · 16/02/2026 22:41

L1D2 done.
Found it harder than yesterday for some reason

IDareSay · 20/02/2026 09:56

Hoorah! I am allowed to exercise again (within limits).

I must only exercise on alternate days (to build in more recovery) and if after three reps of any exercise I get pain then I must stop, but ‘discomfort’ is ok (had a long discussion about this as I have a high pain threshold!)

Crucial thing is to remain balanced, so ensuring both sides of my body are in alignment and bearing the same weight. This makes sense to me as I know I have been favouring one side due to pain on other side.

Unfortunately I have not been able to continue with my usual painkillers for my arthritis but GP has prescribed different ones which so far seem to be ok. It may take a few days for me to see if they do take the edge off the pain. The fact is the only thing that will fix me is replacing that knackered hip, so I have bitten the bullet and booked a private appointment with my surgeon.

I managed a short walk yesterday and I’ll do a couple more this weekend to be certain I am no longer wobbly and then back to some sort of Jillian on Monday. Just about to browse the app for suitable stuff; not up to 30DS quite yet!

IDareSay · 21/02/2026 18:23

I have found Jillian’s Beginner Shred on the app. Looks like a gentler, lower impact version of the 30DS, otherwise a similar 3 x 10 day set up of 3 progressively tougher workouts.

I’m starting on Monday all being well, but will only work out on alternate days. Fingers crossed this gets me back in the groove.

IwanttotakeyoutoaNailaBar · 21/02/2026 21:57

@IDareSay pleased to hear your progress!
It’s so frustrating being incapacitated. Please take the advice not to overdo it, tempting as it is to prove yourself. Marathon not a sprint, so to speak.

I missed Shred today. Feel a bit guilty. Back on it tomorrow though. Almost 4 weeks done. Can see a bit of change but need to sort the diet.

IDareSay · 23/02/2026 10:43

Day 1 of Beginner 30DS done ✅
It really is quite a gentle programme but enough of a challenge for me at the moment. If anyone has struggled with 30DS this would be a good introductory programme to get used to Jillian 🙂

No pain so far, just usual grumbling from my L hip but gosh my right thigh is so weak and wobbly! My walking is fairly stable now but clearly I have lost a lot of strength and stability in my right leg. That’s the result of 4 weeks of complete lack of use I suppose.

I am being very careful and managed to get through it with no immediate ill effects. Even half jacks were a challenge and I did very shallow squats; had to go very slowly to get into the static lunge positions but I got there.

I’ll do 10 days of this, alternate days, then onto programme 2 if all goes well. Felt very good to get back to an exercise programme.

By the way, I have mentioned this website before but it really is a good resource for reviews of online workouts. Also the writer has gone through a nasty car accident and post-cancer chemo so there is some useful stuff for those of us who have had physical and medical challenges.

Saggyoldclothbody · 24/02/2026 11:52

L2D3 completed Friday (along with 30 mins of dumbelll exercises standing on the vibration plate) but I forgot to update.

Very bad food poisoning on Friday so I’ve eased back into Jillian today with:

L2D4✅ completed today.

I’m glad you’ve got back into some exercise @IDareSay You sounded like you were hugely missing your endorphin hit whereas I have to be prised off the sofa (and then I quite enjoy the feeling of virtuousness to be able to eat chocolate 😀)

I know you were told to ensure both legs being used but did you discuss balance exercises that would help to build strength back in your weakened leg? I had an Achilles problem (with a visibly withered calf muscle) that the physio had me resolve mostly by doing variations of getting up and down on my tippy toes on either one or both of my legs, usually whilst brushing my teeth. Also, has anyone mentioned a podiatrist and gasp orthotics in case they might be contributing to the hip issue?

IDareSay · 24/02/2026 13:24

Hi @Saggyoldclothbody good suggestions and yes physio has given me some balance exercises.

Saw consultant this morning and he agrees that in protecting my arthritic left hip I have buggered up my right leg/pelvis/back, you name it, I’ve buggered it 😆
It’s improving though and I have had no adverse reaction to yesterday’s shred.

Anyway I have taken a deep breath and booked in for a private op to replace it. It’s a lot of money but the thought of a pain free summer, rather than two more years of pain and more complications, was too tempting. We shall live on porridge or something!

Saggyoldclothbody · 24/02/2026 13:42

If you’ve not already fully committed to the op yet, or it’s some time away, one of my friends managed to get himself offered one within a couple of months by phoning the consultant’s secretary every week, being friendly, and asking if any cancellations had come up. He had his hip op in January. Obviously it’s luck and a postcode lottery but if there’s any way to run the waiting process for both private and NHS concurrently to take advantage of any luck that’s going, it would save you eating porridge for so long 🤞

PS He was also operated on at a private hospital on the NHS after all that!

IDareSay · 24/02/2026 13:51

I’m happy to have the absolute certainty for this op but did much the same as your friend for the first one; it was also done in the private hospital on the NHS!

So I am calling it a BOGOF 😄

Just spoke to booking team, if they can get me in for pre-op pdq I should have a date in March for the op.

Saggyoldclothbody · 25/02/2026 10:13

A BOGOF 😂 I hope you get that date soon 🤞

Being fit and conscientious about doing prescribed exercises has had a really good result for my friend - and I’m sure you will be the same.

IDareSay · 25/02/2026 11:50

Day 2 of Beginner 30DS done ✅

At the end of last year after doing 2 x 30 Day Shreds and a 90 day programme I would have laughed at how easy this beginner one is but it is really kicking my butt!

A five week layoff has really affected my strength and fitness but slowly does it.

I have an op date of mid March so should just complete the first 10 days of this before I’m off games again. Slow and steady, slow and steady.

Saggyoldclothbody · 27/02/2026 15:02

L2D5✅ I’m still not quite over the food poisoning last Friday and I can tell with my HR so when Jillian tells me it’s really hard and I want to be gargling my blood (or whatever she says to supposedly motivate you) I find I want to take a breather. I’ve gone back to my 1.5kg weights but I’m using the vibration board whenever I can. It’s excellent for all the plank movements (if I don’t look at what the skin on my arms is doing 😳)

Good that you’ve got a date now @IDareSayYou’ll be counting the days 📆

IDareSay · 27/02/2026 15:06

Day 3 of Beginner 30DS done ✅

Might do day 4 on Sunday or leave it until Monday. I’ll see what the weather does as a good long walk would be nice if it stops raining!

Happyhettie · 28/02/2026 17:08

Hi! How’s everyone doing? I’ve been mia due to a sprained ankle but I think I’m ok to get back to it (fingers crossed!) now.
There’s loads of of posts I need to catch up on on here but sorry to hear you’ve not been great @IDareSay you’ll be counting the days til your op - it will soon get here.

I’ve put some weight back on (not loads but my jeans feel tight and I feel rubbish) so the plan is to shred / do something active every day for March even if it’s just a 1 mile walk a day. I’m so stiff too. My knees are refusing to work and I can’t sit on the floor easily anymore so I need to do something for flexibility too. Argh! Not back to square 1 but definitely nowhere near where I was before Christmas.

Happyhettie · 28/02/2026 20:33

30 day shred L1 D1 completed. I’m back!
