No; saw a tv programme about it a few years back. Looks like a challenge! Are you thinking about it?

I am seriously thinking about it (since I’m focusing on orienteering and walking this year for my ML but also have Snowdon trail marathon to keep fit for).

Haven’t found anyone to do it with yet though…

emummy · 01/02/2022 18:07

I guess not everyone is up for running around mountains! Self-navigating. And probably in the rain. Good luck!

Sounds like the perfect challenge for you! I would definitely like to step up to multi day challenges at some point.

I’ve been thinking about starting orienteering - would you say it helps with navigation skills?
I’m ok with a map and compass and perfectly happy out in the hills by myself, but would like to get more confident in bad vis

IRun4Me · 02/02/2022 08:11

I live in the Fens my yearly elevation gain is probably 10 foot. I dream of hills and mountains- my retirement plan.

Mostlyjustrunning · 02/02/2022 11:21

I feel very sorry for you though it is probably the dream for many runners to have no hills!

Mostlyjustrunning · 02/02/2022 11:23

Didn’t get my planned long run today as kids off school sick but managed 6 miles with 27 tree obstacles!

You’ll be ready to tackle an obstacle course race with all that training!
I don’t mind hills, but I think I could live without them! Unfortunately my town is on a hill so flat routes are rare.

I did an obstacle course race last year and loved it Grin

Lunch run done. Very calm after past couple of days of wild winds

Mostlyjustrunning · 02/02/2022 16:16

And it’s very mild again after Monday’s snow!

Doublethecuddles · 02/02/2022 16:29

Short run on Monday followed by an abs class, my abs still haven’t recovered! Social run with friends along the beach this morning. Glad the wind has gone.

Hope you have water and power again.

I like hills when I get them (though it might be the novelty) as I find it is easier to vary my pace and have a respite on the downs whereas on the flat sometimes I risk just running flat out.
Nice run with the dog this morning. Mild here.

Ooh I know what you mean! My ultra was pretty flat and I really struggled to give myself walking breaks!

emummy · 03/02/2022 09:32

Which one did you do @Mostlyjustrunning?
Steady run this morning, out a bit later as working from home. Legs felt horrible for the first 3 miles but they perked up in the end!

The first three miles are always the worst!
I did the Dava Way 50k (more like 52km!) which is mostly along an old railway line. Then a killer hill at the end… I called the organiser a sadist at the finish line 🤣
Which one did you do?

emummy · 03/02/2022 11:20

The same one!! The last hill was very cruel. My left knee had started causing horrible pain going downhill so I didn’t enjoy that either. Otherwise it was great…

Ran down the road beside us and into the woods to get home. Few trees to climb over and branches to avoid but good fun and not muddy.

Mostlyjustrunning · 03/02/2022 12:45

That’s amazing @emummy! My quads were killing me by that stage. Then the steps down into the field and around the field 😩😩
I doubt we bumped into each other as I was pretty near the back the whole time!

emummy · 03/02/2022 17:38

Ah well I took over 7 hours, think there were about 8 or 10 behind me!

OP posts:
Mostlyjustrunning · 03/02/2022 19:09

Likewise!

Theonlyoneiknow · 03/02/2022 19:48

The Dava Way isn't too far from me either :) I know a few people who did it! I did Glen Lyon a couple of years ago, would recommend it!

emummy · 03/02/2022 20:21

I think I might do another one, just not this year! Glen Lyon looks good. At the Dave Way I joined forces with someone else who’s knee was a problem and we got each other to the end, which was fun but also painful!

OP posts:
Mostlyjustrunning · 04/02/2022 07:33

Ooh will look at Glen Lyon! Weirdly we’ve probably met then @emummy!
I did the Speyside Way ultra in 2020 which I really enjoyed.

I have been thinking about doing a 24 hour event but the one close to me is sold out.

emummy · 04/02/2022 07:44

There’s one near me at Knockburn Loch but it’s not something I am keen to try! Hope you find one and good luck if you do!
