I'm a fat lazy slob! I'm constantly tired, grumpy, frumpy and frazzled! I'm mid forties, my hair has emigrated from my head to my multiple chins, and its time I actually started to turn my dumpy life around. Anyone want to join me? From the 1st January I'm going to start c25k using the NHS app. From 4th January I'll be giving up sugar. My aim is to get fit rather than slim, because I'm such an elephant that trying to set a weight goal will just demotivate me😂.
Everyone welcome.

Morning all, I got a few weeks in to C25K but then work ate my life for the best part of a year Angry so I started again yesterday. Planning to do some strength/resistance exercises today and then do W1R2 tomorrow.

PaddingtonB · 02/01/2021 09:14

A day later than I planned but I ran W1 R1 today. Felt good to make a start! Thank you @Rgy3250999 it was partly your encouragement that got me out the door. I’d love to be at a point where I can run in the Spring.

ChampagneCommunist · 02/01/2021 09:35

W2 R1 done. No sign of the fabled endorphin high & I don't appear to be skinny yet. Confused

MOB247 · 02/01/2021 10:04

I would like to try too!

Been overweight since the birth of my youngest and I feel so horrible.

Can I ask where people get athletic wear from for plus size? Need some leggings that will keep a huge flabby tummy in and a sports bra that actually support a large bust.

As you can tell I've not purchased athletic wear for several years Shock

McZeba · 02/01/2021 10:39

I am supposed to do W1R3 today but have come down with a cold 😔 Really wanted to stick to the days I had planned. I am going to rest as much as I can today and aim for tomorrow instead. Well done to all who started yesterday and I am looking forward to completing week 1.

FoolsAssassin · 02/01/2021 10:56

[quote IveNameChangedAgain2020]@FoolsAssassin thank you so much for asking. Dr said she's not concerned and it will be the muscles in my chest causing the pain of course aggravated by the running. She said it's like getting leg cramp.

She prescribed some decent pain killers so feeling a bit better today. I will wait until I feel a much better and then will start again. I will do this! Perhaps start a bit slower next time!

As an aside, I love our NHS. I waited to call because I knew I was being a Pratt (and I know how busy they are). but the lady I spoke to was lovely and said with chest pain it's better to ask. I just have apologised 10000 times.

I think you were very sensible to ring, can’t mess with chest pain.
Can’t stress how slowly I went the first time I did it, I honestly was overtaken by most of the dog walkers.

Over time you build up your muscles and your breathing technique develops and you speed up naturally. For now slower than slow is the key although it is hard to do this as I think there’s an innate instinct to try and go fast when you start running and I had to overcome this.

PrincessMaryaBolkonskaya · 02/01/2021 11:15

I need to do W1R3 today. I had in my head an idea to find a 5k loop and see how long it took me if I ran for a minute and walked for 90 seconds. Just to mix it up a bit. But I’m still in bed. Best laid plans and all that

ThatIsNotMyUsername · 02/01/2021 11:17

Just downloads the ‘slob to 5k’ app. Just need the motivation to get off the sofa...

ThatIsNotMyUsername · 02/01/2021 11:18

What’s W1R1/3?

PrincessMaryaBolkonskaya · 02/01/2021 11:25

@ThatIsNotMyUsername

What’s W1R1/3?
Week 1 run 3. 9 weeks (I think) 3 runs a week Xmas Smile
ThatIsNotMyUsername · 02/01/2021 11:31

D’uh! Thank you 🏃🏻‍♀️

naemates · 02/01/2021 11:33

MOB247 I wear a huge pair of shape wear pants from Primark which sit just under my bra, then I can wear any leggings. Simply Be have a good range of sports bras, and you can buy lots on credit to try on then return Smile

Musicalmistress* you were my absolute inspiration in the summer when I was doing C25K! I have such a fear of the slippery pavements I haven't been out since October, but as soon as it warms up I'm starting again. Honest.

mrstea301 · 02/01/2021 11:56

I'll join too! Although I'm in Scotland so will wait for the ice to clear before I start!

AppleKatie · 02/01/2021 12:05

Ok, 2 days later than planned but I’ve just completed w2 r1 and I’m now sat on the sofa red faced, my thigh muscles are twitching but I actually feel ok and a teeny bit proud!
I was going to do it yesterday but planned walk was quite long and my watch registered 30mins exercise (was out for 3 hours lol!) so I gave myself a free pass. For comparison my watch just registered 16mins exercise for today’s ‘run’ 🤣

Got to try not to seize up now as have promised the DC a walk to a park this afternoon through the woods.

chuffer15 · 02/01/2021 12:14

Good luck everyone! I started last week, this is my second time. The first time last year I did week one on the treadmill then went to France for a bit and found it too difficult running outside so gave up. This time I'm doing it all on the treadmill. The first run I thought I might have to repeat week 1 but on the last day I found it too easy and knew I needed to move onto week two. I also do 30 minutes of yoga after (not sure if that's helping this time) it's one on prime, 30 days of yoga for fat loss. I'm 15stone 3 😩 with asthma! I take my test days every 2 days which I think really helps too.

chuffer15 · 02/01/2021 12:15

Rest*

MamaNewtNewt · 02/01/2021 12:29

Well that's my first run done. I didn't manage the full cycle but considering it was snowing and I now have blisters from my new trainers I'm not going to beat myself up, it's a start at least. Plus I'm so fat I'm dragging the equivalent of another person around with meSmile Feeling a bit shaky, achy but also exhilarated - I'd forgotten how good exercise can make me feel.

Well done to everyone starting / continuing. It's not easy but am hoping when we hit walls we can encourage each other and keep going.

TicTac80 · 02/01/2021 13:40

Hi all, I did W1 R1 on the 31st and W1 R2 today. I think I will do it on alternate days where possible. The clincher will be when kids are back at school and I’m juggling work, school runs and general life!! I feel great for doing the run afterwards so I’ll keep plodding on with it.
The cold air is rubbish for my breathing but I do make sure I take a couple of puffs of my inhalers before I exercise and then during as needed :) good luck all!!

FourTurnings · 02/01/2021 14:45

MOB247 you could try ASOS.

FourTurnings · 02/01/2021 14:47

I’ve been for a 5-6k run today and my legs are aching quite badly. Am very pleased I did it though and I’m also doing Dry January to really try and improve my fitness. Keep going everyone!

TottiePlantagenet · 02/01/2021 17:37

Thanks @Rgy3250999 for the pep talk, it worked and I went out for w1r3 this afternoon. It's not icy by that time here, and I've got a flat park nearby that I can go around.

@PrincessMaryaBolkonskaya did you manage your w1r3 today? I like your idea of trying a 5k loop, but I fear going round and round my park would bore me loopy. Not brave enough to venture beyond the park Blush

Hope you're feeling better for tomorrow @McZeba Flowers

Musicalmistress · 02/01/2021 18:08

@naemates aww thank you! Still running but had to stop mid oct for 8 weeks due to a very bad 'viral illness'. Headed back to the gym just before Christmas and have managed a few runs since the end of term. Heading to the school playing fields tomorrow to try a run on the grass as the snow/ice here is horrendous and doesn't looks like it's letting up any time soon.

Musicalmistress · 02/01/2021 18:09

@mrstea301 & @naemates - try running on grass, it's not so sloppy as the pavements. Plus it forces you to go slower so you can watch your footing which is a good thing for C25k Grin

Musicalmistress · 02/01/2021 18:11

@MamaNewtNewt I was 22stone when I started in April so I feel your pain - it takes so much effort to run anyway, to then try and do it carrying the weight of two people is unbelievable. But...you can do anything you put your mind to, I believe in you!!

MamaNewtNewt · 02/01/2021 18:24

Thanks so much for the encouragement @Musicalmistress Smile How long did it take you to get to the 5k? I'm pretty sure I'm not going to do it in the time allotted but not too bothered. I'm planning on going each morning after I drop my daughter at the childminder as I figure it might be easier than trying to work up to going out later on.
