I'm a fat lazy slob! I'm constantly tired, grumpy, frumpy and frazzled! I'm mid forties, my hair has emigrated from my head to my multiple chins, and its time I actually started to turn my dumpy life around. Anyone want to join me? From the 1st January I'm going to start c25k using the NHS app. From 4th January I'll be giving up sugar. My aim is to get fit rather than slim, because I'm such an elephant that trying to set a weight goal will just demotivate me😂.
Everyone welcome.

Those of you who have started, or have done this before, what do you do when there is snow, ice or heavy frost on the ground?
I feel I am scuppered before I begin. I can only run in the dark after work and it is really slippery underfoot.
PS. I can think of a myriad of other excuses not to go out for exercise, but this is a genuine concern.

HollyJollyDillydolly · 31/12/2020 10:50

I’ve just downloaded the app to start in the new year. I’m so unfit now, I get out of breath going up and downstairs Blush
A year ago I used to power walk 9 miles a day easily, I’m embarrassed how lazy and unfit I am now!

McZeba · 31/12/2020 10:50

I am just back from my 2nd run, frosty 🥶 and hard work, calve muscles really tight and painful 😣. I took it really slowly partly due to that and also due to the icy roads.

AppleKatie · 31/12/2020 11:17

@PrincessMaryaBolkonskaya

I’m struggling for motivation today ladies. I should be pounding the pavements on W1R2 but I appear to be in bed still Xmas Hmm
Me too! W2 R1 was meant to knock it out the park first thing. I’m blaming period pain but I can almost hear a scathing pe teacher telling me it would get easier if I moved my fat arse...
PaddingtonB · 31/12/2020 13:35

I’d like to join you all! I’ve done C25K before but on a treadmill and I’d like to be able to run outside. That was a while ago and I’m very overweight and unfit. I live in a very built up area and feel embarrassed about being seen out trying to run.

TottiePlantagenet · 31/12/2020 13:57

My second run too today @McZeba, and my legs were like lead, so heavy!

Not so icy here, I stayed in bed waited until midday when it "warmed" up a bit before I went out - thanks to the encouragement on here tbh.

Glad my legs weren't the only ones like lead!! My brisk walking pace even felt like a slow shuffle 😂 Went for a walk with a friend after and was hoping that would ease the impending aches n pains but if I'm honest I feel like my legs are seizing up! It won't always feel like this I am sure, after 3 years of doing very little it's bound to take some time.
HPandTheNeverEndingBedtime · 31/12/2020 16:55

I had already downloaded the app to start tomorrow before seeing this thread.

4 year ago I weighed 10.5 stone now I'm almost 15 Angry which really annoys me and I find I'm getting breathless going up and down the stairs at work.

I've completed C25k a few times, I like running on the shoreline, keeps me on my toes as a dodge the waves not to get wet toes and the wet sand is easier on the knees.

When the weather gets too icy I complete the 'run' inside walking up and down the stairs then doing jogging on the spot / star jumps/high knees/ butt kicks for the running sections.

2fatbyfar · 31/12/2020 21:27

Hi everyone, to those have already started well done! To those starting tomorrow or the next day good luck!
I can confirm I'm indeed too fat for my running leggings, and ordered some mega frumpy tracky bums! They arrived today, quite hideous but at least the neighbours won't get an eyeful of me in overstretched Lycra BlushGrin
I've just sewn on some hiviz stuff as I stupidly ordered them in black thinking they'd be more flattering...really no chance of them being flattering (even if I had a good figure!).
Go carefully to those off for a morning run on icy roads. And Godspeed one and allWink

Ps apple I've never got the endorphin rush either, I think that's why I find exercise hard...well that and I'm naturally a lazy slob, I swear I was a sloth 🦥 in a previous life!

C25K Is brilliant. I cannot recommend it highly enough. You owe it to yourself and will not regret it if you complete the programme!! Good luck!

AppleKatie · 31/12/2020 21:34

Well done to those of you who managed today.
I wimped out in pain.

Tomorrow morning I have a walk (at small child pace planned) but I have my eye on tomorrow afternoon. Wish me luck...

I didn’t get out. If memory serves I’m quite good at getting out on NYD so watch this space Xmas Wink

Anyone else find yoga helps the middle age aches? I’m going to start Adrienne’s Breath today. Got my email this morning.

Mnusernc · 01/01/2021 10:38

Stupid question but do you need headphones and your phone with you the whole time?

FoolsAssassin · 01/01/2021 10:40

Not a silly question, yes you do so you know when to do each bit.
MamaNewtNewt · 01/01/2021 11:11

Well done to everyone who has already started. I must admit I'm tempted to put off starting today due to my trainers and sports bra not arriving yet and the fact it's icy and raining. I've decided that I'm going to at least go for a walk today.

Also eying up a foldable treadmill using birthday and Christmas money as I don't have the space for a permanent one. Good luck everyone and Happy New Year!

HPandTheNeverEndingBedtime · 01/01/2021 12:17

I went out for the first run this morning, I'd forgotten how brutal those first runs felt and I'm considerably heavier than last time I completed it. I tipped the scale up to 15 stone for the first time but I guess it's a nice round number to round down from.

The reebok shorts I'd ordered from next turned out to be very short but I threw them on with a hoody and went down all the quiet back roads. I live near the school I teach at and the idea of any of my students seeing me is fairly mortifying!

wheresmyhairytoe · 01/01/2021 12:26

Did the first run with DD 11 this morning.
I'm ashamed how unfit I've got, used to run 4 miles without stopping a few years ago, but, I did it and feel better for it.
Hoping it will shift a few pounds and improve my mental health.

IveNameChangedAgain2020 · 01/01/2021 12:37

I thought C25k would be easier than it was - I went on my first run two days ago and I'm here with a really painful chest - so painful I had to call the doctor! I didn't think I was that unfit 😩

BillStickersIsInnocent · 01/01/2021 12:41

Can I join please? I’m really unfit. Started C25K this week, completed the first 3 runs. My ankles hurt 😞

FoolsAssassin · 01/01/2021 13:19

Ivenamechangedagain what did the doctor say?

Billstickers great start to 2021 to have first week done and dusted. Sorry about your ankles.

Run 1 done. Weird on treadmill as felt like I didn’t have control. But it is done and less like couch to ambulance than when I originally did it. Now to see what joints do.

BillStickersIsInnocent · 01/01/2021 13:23

Couch to ambulance Grin

BillStickersIsInnocent · 01/01/2021 13:25

Well done for doing run 1.

Who do you all have as the narrator/coach? I have Sanjeev this time.

Fivews · 01/01/2021 13:27

I wanted to wish you luck and say that you've already taken a big step getting started. I just completed the program and today was my first run without the inspirational Laura chipping in my ear.
Still can quite believe it. I covered a little over 7k today including the warm up and cool down. 2 months ago the 1 minute run had me gasping.

You'll be the same, just 1 run at a time

FoolsAssassin · 01/01/2021 13:34

Well done Fivews, that’s brilliant!

I use Zenlabs as just want the prompts rather than the motivational bit as I like listening to music, the rhythm helps make my legs work. Think it is the same as the other app until week 7 then deviates slightly .

Standrewsschool · 01/01/2021 13:34

I’m going to (re-) start as well. I do find it difficult though, and often repeat weeks. Therefore, after week five, I may still only be on week three. However, last time I did it (stopped due to illness), I noticed a difference in my figure. I concluded that even thirty minutes walking/running, is better than nothing.

A couple of tips I’ve been given on mn before is not to push yourself too hard - it’s not a race. My jogging speed is actually not much faster than my fast walk speed. Run at your pace, not anyone else’s.
