I'm a fat lazy slob! I'm constantly tired, grumpy, frumpy and frazzled! I'm mid forties, my hair has emigrated from my head to my multiple chins, and its time I actually started to turn my dumpy life around. Anyone want to join me? From the 1st January I'm going to start c25k using the NHS app. From 4th January I'll be giving up sugar. My aim is to get fit rather than slim, because I'm such an elephant that trying to set a weight goal will just demotivate me😂.
Everyone welcome.

I’m going to try and join you if that’s ok? Not sure my joints will hold up though, am going to try the treadmill.

Did it a few years ago and it worked really well, I did 5k and Parkrun regularly and 10k a few times.

The secret is as said above is to go incredibly slowly, walkers used to overtake me at the start. You have to trust the program too, as you progress your body adapts but the barrier is your mind, it takes some time to realise it can do it.

Was really quite life changing for me, I had never run in my life was (48 when started) and found I loved it. Unfortunately surgery plus Covid and dodgy joints has stopped me but hoping I can overcome it all.

Stormwhale · 29/12/2020 12:43

Can I join please? I have about 3 stone to lose and really want to get my fitness levels back up. I was in pretty good shape before having dc2, but my health deteriated massively when I was pregnant with him, and now I'm fat, lazy and depressed. Really hoping this picks me back up.

Stormwhale · 29/12/2020 12:50

Am also a bit worried about my joints as I have a hypermobility disorder, but I love the idea of just going for a run when I need some time to myself and space from the kids.

McZeba · 29/12/2020 13:13

Hey all, read this thread around an hour ago and decided I would like to join you. Downloaded the NHS App, slung on a sports bra, leggings n an old cycling top of my DH and an old pair of runners off I went!
I used to run up u til 3 years ago when I was diagnosed with breast cancer, chemo, radio and 3 operations put paid to it. I've gained 3.5 stone in the past 18 months, I'm 42 and hate the wreck of a body I have but I am alive and I can improve things.
I think as I have run before I know I can do it again, having support or just reading and empathising with others journeys will also help. Good luck all 😊

Audreyseyebrows · 29/12/2020 13:28

I’m in!

DobbyTheHouseElk · 29/12/2020 14:05

Mczebra well done!!!

AppleKatie · 29/12/2020 14:13

I’m in. I’ve done it twice before and both times I’ve completed the programme (in that I can run for 35mins but slowly, not covering 5k in that time) and then given up Hmm

DH and I have given ourselves a treadmill for Christmas the sight of it taking up space we don’t really have in the living room will I hope shame me into doing it even in the dark/cold months. I’m determined to be fit enough to enjoy an outdoor run in the warm late spring...

Anyway, I’ve completed week 1 today. And just showered and having a recovery cup of tea. I know this but is always pathetically awful but from experience it doesn’t get any worse than this feeling and in a couple more weeks I’ll get the sense of achievement too....

Brownbananabandana · 29/12/2020 14:22

Can I join?? I did c25k in the first lockdown and loved it and was running regularly up till I got covid in October and haven’t run since. Not sure how I’ll fare as my chests been bad since but I gues there’s only one way to find out!

TottiePlantagenet · 29/12/2020 14:25

Thank you for this thread - it's pushed me to download the app (Sarah Millican, bless her) and do the first run today.

I used to run 5k several times a week, then just stopped because I don't actually enjoy it - it's just the after "glow" satisfaction that I enjoy. Actually there's no real glow, unless you count the red sweaty face.

But needs must, I have gained weight and I'm at my heaviest ever, bar pregnancy, although I do actually look like I'm 4 or months pregnant :(

I'm always hoping for that elusive endorphins rush, but I don't think I've ever felt it. Does anyone else feel like that? No matter what exercise I do, I never feel that high... could it be because I'm a chronic depressive?

LyraLilly · 29/12/2020 14:37

I'm in

I got to week 6 about a year ago, then gave up when it was so cold that it triggered breathing problems. Then never got going again.

Since then I've put (even more) weight on.

Mid 40s, several stone overweight, bit of a sugar problem. I definitely need a change of mindset.

I'll be starting on 2nd Smile

AppleKatie · 29/12/2020 15:06

I don’t get that amazing endorphin high people talk about either. The best I hope for is grim satisfaction and fitting into my jeans.

I think maybe if I get good enough (and stick with it long enough) that might change? But I dont know.

PrincessMaryaBolkonskaya · 29/12/2020 15:18

Hi everyone! I’ve saw this thread earlier and it inspired me to get out today. I’ve started again from the very start. Fat, frumpy, frazzled and 40.

I’ve got the couch to 5k nhs app, I listen to Michael as he’s dreamy. It’s cold where I live but I warmed up pretty quickly. I always need to have my ears covered in the winter.

TicTac80 · 29/12/2020 15:26

Mind if I join in? I used to be really fit but have turned into a couch Potato. I work as a nurse on a very busy ward and the only thing I feel like doing when I get home is to flake out!! I need to get out of that mindset and get back into doing something sporty. I’ve got a treadmill so no excuse, and I’m 3 months post fractured fib, so looking forward to easing myself back into things :)

McZeba · 29/12/2020 15:46

I can't say my first run was enjoyable and I struggled with my self confidence when running/walking past people. I just try to think that I am giving people positive vibes as I am out doing and trying to be fit. Since I have been back from it I have felt a lift in mood and am looking forward to the next one.

AaronCardigan · 29/12/2020 16:23

Count me in!

My motivation - a new Fitbit arrived today. I also finished off the last of the Christmas chocolate in an attempt to save my future self. I have 3 stone to lose!

idsisatwat · 30/12/2020 13:11

I got as far as week 5 (or possibly 6) last October/ November. I definitely need to do something, as I’m just getting fatter and more unfit! And I’ll be 50 in the summer, so want to be a bit leaner by then!

Pet8 · 30/12/2020 13:18

Can I ask where you all run? I don't drive. Live in a complete concrete jungle and quite anxious about running alone. Don't know a soul around here. Have already reached out on social media for potential running partners to no avail. Desperately unfit.

McZeba · 30/12/2020 13:32

I am in the countryside, so it's lanes and then when I want to go a bit further I will use the woods. So not much help from me, sorry. I was part of a running group for women a few years ago, as long as you could keep moving for 5 mins without a major break you were welcome as a beginner. This was in a city, worth a google or ask on a local page on fb?

AppleKatie · 30/12/2020 13:51

This is one of the reasons I’ve invested in a treadmill. I don’t want to be worrying who’s following me in the dark- it’s shit though.

MamaNewtNewt · 30/12/2020 20:07

I've ordered my new trainers and sports bra and created an exercise playlist so am all set. I must admit I'm a bit wary about running on my own but am just going to run along the main streets during the day.

Imagine what it must be like to be a man and not have to worry about stuff like this...!

huuuuunnnndderrricks · 30/12/2020 20:10

I started today ! I'm going to try and go again tomorrow . Wasn't tooooo bad 😬

wheresmyhairytoe · 30/12/2020 22:17

I'm going to start tomorrow, fat, forty and frumpy.

My antidepressants have piled the weight on and I really need to shift it.

FoolsAssassin · 30/12/2020 23:27

I have just downloaded my playlist which Is a start I feel

Forgetaboutme · 30/12/2020 23:35

I completed C25k in October and been running 5k 3 times a week since. I'm about 8 stone overweight Blush I weigh 18 stone and only 5ft 5. I havent lost any weight though and I actually hate running. I was hoping that at some point it would feel easy and enjoyable but I havent reached that point and have to force myself out. Then I eat junk food thinking it's ok cos I run.

Not trying to put a downer on it but just pointing out good eating habits are needed too. I'm gonna try and keep running but work on my food habits in 2021. The positive spin is I struggled with the 1 minutes at the start and have now managed to run a 6k record without stopping so pretty proud of that.

PrincessMaryaBolkonskaya · 31/12/2020 10:41

I’m struggling for motivation today ladies. I should be pounding the pavements on W1R2 but I appear to be in bed still Xmas Hmm
