Can we make a Les Mills on demand thread?

I'm just wondering if others are using Les Mills on demand and if we could maybe check in with each other to discuss what we are doing and what our goals are etc?

I am trying to loose 1 stone and doing 5:2 but i eat too much on my non-fasting days so I don't really loose any weight, so I'm adding exercise in the hope of shifting some weight Smile

So far I have done bodycombat 3 times this week for about half an hour each and some weights and flexibility training, but I think from next week I will be adding in bodypump

Is anyone else using this? I am really enjoying it so far Smile

Hey ladies,

So happy to spot this thread! 😃 We started using LMOD when the gyms closed! Wasn't expecting to enjoy it so much, although rearranging the living room is a pain! 😂

Not able to do pump as no weights - did you guys get some online?

Weirdly, we're loving Barre - we don't get that at our gyms, so it's totally new and different! 😃

I did a 33 minute one today, I’m hoping to build up to the 45 mins. Today’s was hard! I did no 77. I liked it though. I’m needing to do something to lose the flab on my tummy so not sure where to start with that? Any ideas anyone. I’m wondering what other classes I might enjoy. I have some small hand weights that are still in their case 🙈

Hi I’d like to try these classes. I haven’t done any exercise apart from daily walks since lockdown and I feel sluggish and unfit. Seeing as returning to office & school looks unlikely for a while I want to do something to strengthen my body and mind!

Can I ask a few questions please:
how much room do you need to do the workouts?

How long are they - I could do with starting with shorter length?

If you have youngish dc when do you do the workouts without being disturbed? Feel like I’m constantly needed at the moment even though youngest is 8. When do you find the best time of day is for you to workout?

Which workouts should I start with ie the easiest?!

Thanks for any tips

You can do any length workout
Depending on what you do
You can do combat in 30, 45 or 55 classes

If your youngest is 8 it's pretty easy to get them to understand that you're busy for half an hour or so

Ds watches his iPad or does school work

Littlemiss - I've just had a quick browse and there's quite a few 15 minute workouts too. I've seen videos of kids joining in with combat with their parents, so that might be an option. Bribery? Grin you let me work out and then you can have screen time/chocolate/my full attention???
There's also Born to Move on LMOD - 20 - 30 minute classes for kids in various age ranges.

As for where to start yourself. If you scroll down you'll find a category called tutorials which will guide you through any of the workouts you might be interested in. Or just choose some of the shorter workouts and give it a go. At the beginning I found sticking to the same workout for a few goes was the best way to pick up the moves.First time I felt like I was 2 steps behind all the time and had to keep stopping to watch what I was supposed to be doing but by the 2nd and 3rd time I'd start picking it up and was able to put more into it.
The beauty of dong it at home is nobody can see you going wrong Grin

Love bodypump, step and cx works! Such a great app!

I'm so pleased to have found Body Attack 97 today GrinIt was my favourite release from when I used to go to the classes at the gym. It has my all time favourite warm up track ( which I've now found out the song is called my way - Hollywood hustlers) Anyone else find themselves doing the extra dance moves and singing along with the instructors?

@Littlemiss74 I decided to start with body combat. I worked through the tutorials then started the workouts. I’ve managed to do the 33 minute one so far and hoping to build up to the 45 minute one too. I’ve got two kids ages 10 and 7 and they’re quite happy to disappear out the living room to let me do my thing. For combat you probably need to be able to spin round with your arms out and be able to kick in all directions. I manage in the living room.

So I just looked at the GRIT workouts, I'm not sure if i'm ready for GRIT yet, I might stick with bodycombat again tomorrow as tomorrow is a fasting day so I don't want to die Grin

then maybe will try it on another day next week. are they much harder than bodycombat?

I really want to do bodybalance too but i'm guessing that isn't so great for loosing weight but i could do half an hour of each I guess :)

And barre looks like it might be good - what do you all find barre good for? General toning?

Not tried GRIT - it looks crazy! 😂 It looks more like a HIIT workout, and I'm personally not a big fan of these!

I really enjoy body balance for flexibility, toning, and strength - it's still a good workout, even though it's not "cardio"! Barre is a great lower body and back workout - it's very different to anything we've ever done before! 😃

Main thing is finding something you enjoy as you're more likely to do it longer term! 😃

Happy Monday to all - that means Combat for me! 😃

@Upsidedownrightnow it's a lot harder than combat! Although, I actually burn a lot more calories in combat (pro rata!)

If you do try it, I'd say start with strength.

Yeah Balance isn’t a huge calorie burner but it’s still a good workout. I like to keep it for using on a rest day to stretch everything out.

Dozer · 08/06/2020 08:24

Balance is good but isn’t a “workout” IMO, it’s like yoga/pilates, prob under 150cals an hour and heart rate doesn’t get raised much. It’s great for strength/ flexibility though IME.

Combat for 45 mins is around 250 cals, for me.

Pump under 200, I don’t lift heavy weights.

I do about 400 calories in a 45 min combat
Ran for 38 mins yesterday and burned 540 calories

Why is there such a difference I wonder?

540 calories sounds a lot for a 38 minute run - I burn about half that in that time.

I got my barbell and weights on eBay. It’s not the Les Mills one but very similar. I paid around £120.

FashionFoodLaughs and WelcometotheMountainTop - thanks, that's really encouraging! I think I'm going to give it a go for the free trial anyway - the good thing about doing this at home is that there's no one to see my middle-aged attempts at body rolls. (To be fair, pretty much all of my body rolls. Just not in the way it's supposed to....)

What I love about Body Balance is the feeling of gracefulness I get doing it - it's about slow, measured movements, really appreciating what your body can do. The instructor at our gym also does the 5 min relaxation at the end (not sure if that's in the OD version?) and people drift out of the class in a state of total calm.

Re calories burnt for running/combat etc - a lot of that will depend on your weight. Someone weighing 80kg will burn more calories than someone weighing 60kg.

Relaxation definitely on the online version of bodybalance.

@ArtieFufkinPolymerRecords probably because I'm unfit and knackered lol

In the interests of science this is what my Apple Watch picked up for this morning - I did combat 82 again so it was one I was familiar with/know the moves for.

It can vary massive with weight and how much effort you put in. If I run 5k I burn around 300-350 calories depending on the route (hills etc).

Can we make a Les Mills on demand thread?

Yes, I know that and obviously I don't know MozzchopsThirty's stats, but I was just thinking I would need to be running six minute miles to burn that many calories in 38 minutes.

Hey, joining in! Have had LMOD for a month and I love it. Just starting week 2 of the Strength and Tone Amplify plan. My 16 year old DD is alo joining in with me.

My faves are pump, balance, step, attack, combat. I really rate some of the combo/hybrid workouts as well. CXWORX is fab for the core. Mainly use dumbells but bought a 10kg weighted bar for pump. Have tentatively started grit strength as well, but don't enjoy it as much as the others.

I couldn't get the app on my smart TV, but managed to get it through the xbox if that's useful to anyone?

I do grit sometimes but I’m having problems keeping my iron levels up and I’m 56 so have to be careful not to do too much high intensity stuff as it can wipe me. It’s a time-efficient way of dealing with weekend excess for me, though!
