Can we make a Les Mills on demand thread?

Upsidedownrightnow · 05/06/2020 14:54

I'm just wondering if others are using Les Mills on demand and if we could maybe check in with each other to discuss what we are doing and what our goals are etc?

I am trying to loose 1 stone and doing 5:2 but i eat too much on my non-fasting days so I don't really loose any weight, so I'm adding exercise in the hope of shifting some weight Smile

So far I have done bodycombat 3 times this week for about half an hour each and some weights and flexibility training, but I think from next week I will be adding in bodypump

Is anyone else using this? I am really enjoying it so far Smile

So I have just completed 30mins of body combat and I did the short bodypump video which was like 12 mins.

I am fasting today so haven't eaten anything and I wont eat until dinner time so I didn't want to over do it as I felt a bit sick in the lower body pump workout. But i plan to do it again tomorrow after eating or do a longer one Smile

But i love how you can just choose lengths of workouts to suit you.

@HunterHearstHelmsley thats a good idea to start with strength, i actually prefer strength and flexibility training over cardio but i'm making an effort to do cardio as i really need to shift this stone.

I love LMOD. The classes are amazing. I managed to buy a step at the start of lockdown and i love my step classes and combat and attack too. There is one class, I'll check which one, that has a German instructor and he is brilliant: reminds me of the German singers in Pitch Perfect 2 - random but I love it!

Boopear · 08/06/2020 15:53

Anyone else doing the Optimal Mix prime plan? Pump #103 has broken me. Squat pulses...ouch ouch ouch. My quads now hate me.

Givemestrengthorgin · 08/06/2020 15:56

Is there a decent pump for doing at home when you don't have a barbell? I have light dumbbells or an 8kg kettlebell so have mostly ignored the pump classes.

Boopear · 08/06/2020 16:03

I don't have a bar (am eyeing up a SmartBar when they come back into stock ) - I use a mixture of 4kg/5kg dumbells. A single 5kg for the plate moves. Not perfect, but goodness I can feel it today (and I do a lot of gym weights work). I've done Pump #103/#90/#105 - all good.

MozzchopsThirty · 08/06/2020 16:44

After reading this I'm going to give Barre a go

I just did free weights today and some boxing with ds1

NotGenerationAlpha · 08/06/2020 16:51

Checking in too. I signed up at the start of lockdown and ordered myself a bodypump at home kit. It arrived a week ago and I have started doing pump again. It's amazing and I have missed it so much. @Givemestrengthorgin I have tried doing it with handweights and I think you can do it if you have heavier ones. But I have only got 1kg and 2kg. They are useless for back and leg work. Google youtube on deadlifts with handweights and see if you can feel any benefits of it with what you got?

I have also now tried out bodystep as the bodypump at home kit got a step. It's very good for my legs and thighs definitely.

I am also doing attack, sh'bam, combat and balance and loving them all.

PearsMorgan · 08/06/2020 16:53

I’ve been going through phases of combat and phases of running outside + balance. Finding the Pilates tracks in balance surprisingly ab-y. I also did a runners hybrid one the other day which was great - I can’t do a full attack but a couple of tracks are ok. I quite often do CXWorx in the gym but haven’t managed to source any plates - grateful for any ideas there.

NotGenerationAlpha · 08/06/2020 16:54

I prefer the 45min version for the workouts, except body attack. I'm on #106. It has got a running track which is absent in the 30min version. It's very lame when I haven't got anywhere to run around. Running on the spot is definitely not the same. I have not done other releases on 45min format so not sure if it's included in all the others too.

PearsMorgan · 08/06/2020 16:54

Ha well done for doing shbam, I lasted about 2 min before literally tripping over my own feet

PearsMorgan · 08/06/2020 16:55

Oh yeah that reminds me why I rejected attack - the running round the living room was too silly

PearsMorgan · 08/06/2020 16:56

The formats are generally the same eg you can’t avoid the conditioning track by doing 45min combat

NotGenerationAlpha · 08/06/2020 17:04

@PearsMorgan thanks for the info about format. I used to do balance and combat in the gym but honestly never noticed anything about format. I just followed the instructor!

As for plates, I have looked around on amazon and argos and some places still have stock. Have you looked there? But once I counted in the cost of getting a decent bar and all the weights and the step, I decided to just get the les mills set from the official store. They have a 2 week lead time.

nbee84 · 08/06/2020 17:26

In attack, instead of running round my living room I do star jumps or high knees. Gets my heart rate up more than the running.

FizzyPink · 08/06/2020 18:49

@NotGenerationAlpha how easy is it to store your body pump set? I’m keen to order one as I can’t find anything half decent in stock anywhere else but we live in a compact 1 bed flat and storage is at a premium!

HunterHearstHelmsley · 08/06/2020 21:08

I usually do the 55 minute format and skip through track 6. Or I'll do high knee runs on the spot, depends what mood I'm in!

I have shoulder injuries, and can’t hold a barbell across my back. I was advised to use a rucksack filled with tins of beans for the leg work..

MozzchopsThirty · 08/06/2020 22:15

I really can't get with body attack, it's too happy clappy for my liking

I'm trying barre tomorrow

Givemestrengthorgin · 08/06/2020 22:19

Thanks @NotGenerationAlpha. I've got 1.5kg dumbbells but thought they would be too light. I'm driving myself batty searching through my tip of a loft as I'm sure I have a heavier set of dumbbells but can't find them anywhere.
@WelcomeToTheMountaintop a bag full of tins sounds like it might be worth a bash.

flouncymcflouncerson · 08/06/2020 22:21

I’m currently watching the sh’bamm getting started video 01...I’m almost positive I’ll not be coordinated enough or that my body would even move that way!

I managed to do one of the 45 min body combat videos today, number 77 which is the same as the 30 min I’d been doing. Considering I was a sweaty out of breath mess After the first 20 min one I didn’t think I’d ever be able to manage the 45 mins!

nbee84 · 08/06/2020 22:57

Well done flouncy. You'll be doing 55 mins before you know it. How about trying a 30 or 45 min combat and one of the short cxworx or balance after it 🙂 Neither of those are cardio and they are very good for your core strength.

NotGenerationAlpha · 09/06/2020 05:11

@Turnedouttoes I stored the three weight plate sets under the TV stand. 2x1kg in a stack, 2x2.5kg in another stack and then the 2x5kg one. I have a Ikea besta TV stand and it’s 120cm wide. It also fits my 2 sets of 1 and 2 kg dumbbells across too! The smart bar I store under my 2 seater sofa. Depends on clearance of your sofa, I reckon you can store the enter bar and weights set underneath. The smart step I can’t find anywhere to stash away so it is just left on my living room floor. However I don’t think you need to use the step for pump. I find I can do bench press and fly on the floor. The problem I had before was only my dumbbells were too light.

BimbleWimble · 09/06/2020 06:02

I used to love Les Mills classes, particularly Step and Combat. I’m much older and fatter now though. Are there many low impact classes on LMoD?

NotGenerationAlpha · 09/06/2020 06:53

@BimbleWimble there is a post I saw yesterday on the official Facebook group which is a shout out from someone in her 60s. I don’t know what problem you got so it’s hard for me to advice. One thing the thread says is doing it online means you aren’t pressured to do it just your way. Like someone says she’s doing normal lunges instead of plyometric ones in body attack. You can also hybrid workouts or shorter ones.

I find combat, step and sh’bam I can do without bouncing. But it sounds from the thread people manage to do attack like this too and still get a work out. There is always pump and balance?

ifellintoarabbithole · 09/06/2020 07:12

I tried to do Grit again yesterday - definitely not for me. I couldn't keep up with the moves at all. I just about followed the warm up, but then there are just too many moves and my body doesn't move that fast. I wish they did a slightly slower/simpler version as I quite enjoy HIIT but that was madness!! Made me feel like a right lump.

In Body Attack they quite often demonstrate low impact options. Barre seemed good the one time I did it!
