Can we make a Les Mills on demand thread?

Upsidedownrightnow · 05/06/2020 14:54

I'm just wondering if others are using Les Mills on demand and if we could maybe check in with each other to discuss what we are doing and what our goals are etc?

I am trying to loose 1 stone and doing 5:2 but i eat too much on my non-fasting days so I don't really loose any weight, so I'm adding exercise in the hope of shifting some weight Smile

So far I have done bodycombat 3 times this week for about half an hour each and some weights and flexibility training, but I think from next week I will be adding in bodypump

Is anyone else using this? I am really enjoying it so far Smile

Born to move sounds great

WeKnowFrogsGoShaLaLaLaLa · 05/06/2020 18:21

I ♥️ LMOD. Today I've done BodyPump, RPM and BodyBalance. I'm loving it and keep finding new things on there. There are hybrid workouts that I'm going to try too.

MsMartini · 05/06/2020 18:23

I love it too. Tried lots of different classes over first phase of lockdwon and ended up subscribing to LMOD as thought they were by far the best. They give you such a good workout, and I thought the instructors were very good at pointing out common mistakes and form corrections. Loved combat and grit an the way you can have an intense workout and then step into your own shower.

I've started working out in the park with a buddy so I am not doing them now so may cancel after the three months I signed up for but I am so glad I have found these - I think gyms could be very different with covid rules, and much less relaxing and sociable. Even if I rejoin to use the free weights etc, I might well skip classes and do them at home.

PseudoBadger · 05/06/2020 18:28

What equipment have you all bought/use for Bodypump?

thisusernameismine · 05/06/2020 18:41

@upsidedownrightnow yes grit is pretty intense. Not to sound like a dick (!) but I've always been really into fitness etc and am pretty strong so use a pair of 10kg dumbbells (sometimes 8s) for the grit strength series. It's a HIIT workout as others have said but with weights, I get by fine with dumbbells but they also use bars in the videos.

Think lots of burpees, press ups, clean and press, squats, lunges, jumps (you can modify), rows etc. It's amazing! If I'd not just downed chicken fajitas for dinner I'd be doing a session now Grin

I burn 200-300 calories in half an hour (I'm 55kg so that's quite a lot for me personally) and I feel it's helped get back my muscle definition post baby despite the daily lockdown mint magnums!!

thisusernameismine · 05/06/2020 18:43

And they were adding new workout every 3 months but now seems to be every 2. Winner!

jerometheturnipking · 05/06/2020 18:51

@PseudoBadger I use dumbbells. I'd love to have a bar with adjustable weights but I'm getting by with my 2x 3kg, 2x5g and 10kg kettlebell just now. I'm definitely considering investing in proper weights for it when they're back in stock.

nbee84 · 05/06/2020 18:55

I bought a used Les Mills bar direct from their website. Mainly because as soon as gyms closed you couldn't find exercise equipment in stock anywhere and I happened to come across the used section pretty much straight after they added it. The Les Mills weights are good but I've used other makes at some gyms and wouldn't say that they are definitely worth the extra cost, but I'm saving on my gym fees at the mo (DL so quite a bit!) so I decided to go for it. If you're looking online look for a studio bar set. A normal gym bar is much heavier and a lot longer.

gymbummy · 05/06/2020 19:05

I've just finished week 1 of a three month workout plan. I like the variety of classes and trying workouts I would never have picked

WeKnowFrogsGoShaLaLaLaLa · 05/06/2020 19:34

@PseudoBadger - I couldn't get a barbell even if I'd been willing to pay a few hundred pounds when lockdown started so instead I use weighted bars. I have a 6kg and a 8kg bar. I also have dumbbells (but they're only 1kg each and too light tbh but I'm not paying £80+ for new ones, I can wait!) and kettlebells that's I use instead of plates. It all works really well. I also have a reebok step that I borrowed from work.

WeKnowFrogsGoShaLaLaLaLa · 05/06/2020 20:05

If anyone hasn't joined the FB group yet, it's fab. Very motivating and if you're looking for recommendations there's always an answer on there.

ToyKitchenSink · 05/06/2020 22:05

I'm loving Bodycombat. The latest release is really fun. And the Facebook group is very inspiring too.

Matilda2013 · 05/06/2020 22:24

I've been doing body pump so much more regularly (only started this at the gym before lockdown). I also do Cxworx at the gym and have been trying to keep up with this for a core workout.

The one thing I do miss is Bodyjam! Not sure it would be quite the same as we have a fab instructor! Did try Barre but not sure I'm made for ballet!

Campervan69 · 05/06/2020 22:29

I have been doing a body balance class every morning since lockdown started. I do it every morning and it really sets me up for the day. I used to be a member of David Lloyd but I don't think I'll be going back after this. One of my favorites is 80 I love the music in it.

I was looking at my arms in the bath earlier and it's the first time in my life I've actually been happy with them.

nbee84 · 05/06/2020 23:01

I tried pump with my limited hand weights when I first started, it didn't feel right, probably because I was used to using the bar in the gym so I stopped doing that one and thought I'd just do the others but soon missed pump and ended up shelling out for the bar.
I tried sh'bam when I first signed up. I did the instructional one and was all over the place, especially when you added arms in. I've just sat and skimmed through one of the mix releases and there's no way I could do that Grin Barre is also not my thing. I do balance occasionally because I know it's good for me but I prefer to get my heart rate up and get hot and sweaty. I didn't think I'd like step but have been having lots of fun with it. I love the hybrid and combo workouts where you do a mix of the different styles.
That's the beauty of having it at home, you can try things out and see what you do and don't like. You can switch it off and change your workout half way through if you're not feeling it. If you're knees don't like lunges you can skip the lunge track in pump. If you hate burpees you can do star jumps and no one can see you to think you're wimping out Grin

Campervan69 · 05/06/2020 23:30

nbee84 yes exactly. I did Body Pump at the gym but tore my rotator cuff so haven't done it since. Still in pain with it 3 years later. Regret not sticking to balance.

Anyway the joy of doing it at home is I don't have to explain why I'm not doing certain moves. I once had a bloke mansplain to me I was doing a move wrong when I was doing what wouldnt cause me pain. Most annoying.

WeKnowFrogsGoShaLaLaLaLa · 06/06/2020 07:46

Completely agree with this! I struggle with lunges after breaking my leg and ankle last year. I have to concentrate and go slowly because I wobble a lot. I can do this at home without feeling judged.

Although it's thanks to Les Mils that lunges are now my only problem! It's been a great rehab!

ifellintoarabbithole · 06/06/2020 08:13

I love LMOD too! Very pleased to see this thread. I signed up at the very very beginning of lockdown, as had been doing Combat at my gym. (Which I had only been going to since Christmas - I'm embarrassingly new to exercise!)

I love Bodypump, and feel noticeably stronger. And it's fun. I agree with a PP that 111 is the best I have done - the music is fab.

I do Attack, but cant say I enjoy it too much and find it extremely heavy on the knees with lots of jumping. It's a bit disheartening to either stop or have to modify everything. But it is a good workout though.

Balance is good, but I find the releases all a bit samey.

I want to try step and Barre - but I always get drawn to Combat and Pump as they're so fun!

I had a bad run of shifts a couple of weeks ago where I didn't do any classes, and now struggling to get my motivation and energy back again. Hopefully today will be the day!

FashionFoodLaughs · 06/06/2020 08:17

@PseudoBadger my DH picked us up a York Tri bar on eBay as it matched the plates we had at home. It was £80 and is about the same length as the bars they use in classes.

Dreamersandwishers · 06/06/2020 08:31

So glad I found this thread. Joined LMOD as soon as gym closed and have been doing pump ever since; have sprinkled in a little balance , rpm & combat but need to get re-energised.
I also bought a used smart bar and extra weights, and got a reebok step online. Looking at how to set up a more permanent workout space at home as we really need to get back to eating at the table.

nbee84 · 06/06/2020 18:56

What did everyone do today? I tried The Trip, borrowed Dh's ipad as my bike isn't near the tv. Then I did a 45min step class and a 15min cxworx!

Campervan69 · 06/06/2020 19:03

Wow impressive. TOTM for me so did Body Balance 76 which I actually loved the music is great but skipped the abs track and gave myself an easy ride.

What I've loved about being able to do it at home is that you can do that. Previously I just would not have gone to the class if I was feeling a bit crappy but I tend to go down and think well do the warm up then it's yoga stretches which are fine and by the time I get to the abs track often I'll just do it because I'm warmed up and I'm in the mood by then.

jerometheturnipking · 06/06/2020 19:15

I did Combat 82 this morning - a great cobweb blowout. I really like the presenting team for that release. Dan can sometimes come across as a wee bit patronising but Marlon is great.

Greenteandchives · 06/06/2020 19:38

How on earth do you all have room at home to do BodyAttack and Combat? I’m a bit envious. I’d be leaping into my kitchen cupboards.

jerometheturnipking · 06/06/2020 20:04

Greenteandchives If I'm in the living room using my laptop I've got plenty space, but if I have to I can do it in less so long as you've got enough space around you to kick out to each side/front/back without hitting anything (for Combat obviously). Sometimes when they want you to do shuffles I just do it on the spot.
