@Sunshineandflipflops it's so much easier to stop start. And so motivating knowing exactly where I am.

PenfoldsFive · 29/05/2020 21:46

Trying, I’m on week 8.

NoTeaForMe · 29/05/2020 23:31

I’ve been tracking the whole thing - both walks either side. First two runs of week 6 I did 4.1k so I’m clearly super slow. From week 7 I’ll start only tracking the runs and see how that goes.

To be honest I’m just amazed I’m doing it and am hoping that at the end I’ll work on speed and managing that 5k.

TryingToBeBold · 30/05/2020 06:56

@PenfoldsFive

So eventually the aim will be 5k in the middle. Now I'm running thats all I track but I did buy a watch so I didnt have to faff around with my phone.

Dont worry about times for now. Focus on that 5k in the middle. And dont drop the warm up and cool down. They do their job.

PetraDelphiki · 30/05/2020 08:21

Please don’t focus on doing 5k in under 30 mins...

www.livestrong.com/article/13722561-average-5k-time/

Note that none of the age groups have an average time under 30 mins!

GuyFawkesDay · 30/05/2020 08:30

I just did 25mins and covered 3.4km. average 7min40 a kilometre.

So I reckon I'll be doing 33/34min for 5km and that'll be fine. I can get quicker once I'm fitter.

It's interesting that although I felt like sh*t running today (wine lastnight + toe worry) this is the 3rd 25 minute run I have done and I'm getting a tiny bit faster each time but I feel slower in my own head.

And I cheated today, there's s steep hill 20min in and I had a 30 second walk but added it on at the end. I just rain out of juice!!

Ooh and well done @Cherrypi, go you!! That mental block of 20 minutes is a big one!

Hi everyone! Just finished week 2!

Castoreum · 30/05/2020 13:22

Hi Ally!

I have just finished week 2 as well. It was good and I am quite enjoying it. I hear week 3 is a lot harder, though, and am a bit scared of three minutes running!

Allyfromtheblock · 30/05/2020 13:48

Hi Castoreum! I just had a look at week 3, it’s two 3 minute runs and two 90 seconds runs! 9 minutes in total! I am sure we’ll do it. I found it easier to run when it’s not too hot, will try to run at 8 am..

Allyfromtheblock · 30/05/2020 13:49

And great to hear you are enjoying it Castoreum! I am enjoying too, can’t believe I used to do marathons, and my body just forgot all about it!

ChanklyBore · 30/05/2020 15:50

Week 8 run 3 for me today. Will be heading out soon and it is hot! I was browsing trainers and kit last night.

I guess I always through that trainers were running shoes. Now I see there are running shoes, and trainers, seperately. And the running shoes are road or trail running? I have both on my circuits from home and ideally I’d like to carry that on. Maybe I should just wait until the shops reopen but I can’t see them letting me try hundreds on either.

I don’t know if I’ll be a runner forever but I can’t see me going back to low/no cardio life. I feel much fitter in terms of catching my breath and that is really nice.

Castoreum · 30/05/2020 17:57

Week 8! That is so good. I hope to grow up to be a week 8er.

I have never run a marathon. In fact, I do not think I have run anywhere for more than three decades. I had no idea this would turn out to actually be enjoyable.

GuyFawkesDay · 30/05/2020 18:14

I hated cross country as a teen. Loathed it.

Then ran in my early twenties as I was a gym bunny and played a lot of sport. Regularly ran 5-10km including home from work with my suit in a backpack!

Then I had kids, house, I teach so term time life is intense. And frankly, I've gotten fat and flabby and unfit. I'm over 12 stone.

I never ever thought I'd enjoy running but I really do. I mean, I hate the thought of it every time I know it's run day but then I know I'll come back through the door buzzing, even if like today, I had legs made of concrete and a slight feeling of nausea.

Bought some Bluetooth headphones today. And some shorts on Amazon with a phone pocket. Hurrah!! This of course means it'll rain as soon as they arrive. I apologise in advance.

I think I might even think of myself as s runner soon? Once I can do 5km regularly and maybe push it a bit further.

Loving how many new runners I have found on here 😁

Run was rubbish. Hot, hilly, tried a new route, people everywhere. People where I have never seen people before, ever. In groups. I had to slow down, swerve or stop completely so many times to try and social distance over 14 stiles along the way...and two sets of traffic lights. The icing on the cake was having to stop dead, pause all the apps and wait for six whole minutes whilst three teenage boys got their bikes stuck one by one trying to get them through a kissing gate. They didn’t even apologise. I walk that route regularly and normally hardly see a soul. The whole route inc warm up and down was 5.6km and completed in 42 minutes but I really just gave up and walked several times.

Sidge · 30/05/2020 19:19

Can I join?

I’m not doing C25K as I started running again and seeing a PT in February and am running 5-10k about 3 or 4 times a week but I’m very short, very slow and a bit chubby so when I popped into the Running Thread I swiftly left again as they are WAY out of my league 🤣

I do a mix of treadmill and outdoors running, fairly flat round here so no big hills and I do 5k in about 35-38 minutes so certainly not speedy. I have done 10k in 77 minutes and accidentally ran 9 miles a couple of weeks ago which strained my lats so I’ve had a weeks break and just started again on Thursday.

I’m not a runner by any means, more of a Shetland pony than a racehorse! But I’m finding it strangely addictive.

TwistyHair · 30/05/2020 19:33

Got my last run tomorrow! It’s weird, I really look forward to runs but then while I’m doing it I think ‘what is this shit?’ And then when I’m done I feel brilliant.

WundaWumman · 30/05/2020 21:21

Hi fellow runners! I didn't get chance to post on the last thread so joining in here. I start week 7 tomorrow... I am both daunted AND proud of myself for getting this far! @TryingToBeBold I run in the morning if I can, before coffee / breakfast. I read something last week (will try to find it) that the important thing is keeping to a regular time, but it doesn't matter when that is in your day.

NoTeaForMe · 30/05/2020 22:17

Hello again. I have now completed Week 6! I can’t believe I ran for 25 minutes in one go. I was so slow but I still got to the end. I start week 7 on Monday and I’ll only track my runs from then, I’m equally excited and nervous to see how slow I go. I think I’m going to be very disappointed!

catmg · 30/05/2020 22:18

Hi there, have been following for a while.

I'm about to start week 3 but my shins/knees are really struggling.

I'm not overweight, I'm only 36, but am out of shape and haven't worked out for a while what with having young kids.

Looking for your advice : I think I need to buy proper trainers. Do I need to physically go to a running shop to get fitted, or will any I buy online make a difference to this agony I'm in? Willing to spurns about £80 is that enough? Any recommendations?

GuyFawkesDay · 30/05/2020 22:23

More than enough!!

There's some sports shops near me doing online gait analysis. Maybe get someone to slow motion film you running in a straight line away from them.

I bought ASICS gel trainers direct from the manufacturer. I need support trainers for pronation as my arches are knackered post kids. I paid £55 for them. You definitely can get good running shoes for under £80

I've got trail running shoes. Karrimoor I think so I can go on and off road.

@Guy Its always the rubbish runs.. always the ones where you think you did crap that ... I've done the best on.

Castoreum · 30/05/2020 23:56

I managed to get a pair of trainers online that have turned out to be supremely comfortable and supportive. I read a lot of articles about fitting running shoes, looked at wear patterns on existing shoes etc. I already knew I would want the flattest shoe possible and something with a wide toe and narrow heel. I read LOTS of reviews. I did spend quite a lot of money but I think it's been worth it for me.

carrottopper · 31/05/2020 00:13

I'm hoping to go on my second run tomorrow. Far should I be running? Also the app I'm using is the free one. Will the voice over still talk to me if I play my music on Spotify?

Stopthehop · 31/05/2020 08:02

Just done wk3 run 1,nwas so pleased with myself for not stopping, sweating now in need of a cold shower.

@carrottopper yes the app will talk louder over your music.
