Ran for 25mins today canny believe it. Pretty sure at some points though I would have been quicker walking Grin

Stopthehop · 31/05/2020 08:19

Well done Chunky. I was the same today in my 3 minutes thinking I was running slower than I walk.

Murmurur · 31/05/2020 09:33

Chunky I know I am! I was keeping pace with someone a good 20+ years older than me who was walking last time. Never mind, Sanjeev won't judge.

Sunshineandflipflops · 31/05/2020 09:37

@carrottopper I use the One You C25k app and Jo Whiley still Speaks to me over my music.

Just done week 7 run 3 and although it was my 3rd time of running for 25 mins it felt much harder. I went out 2 hours later than normal though and I think that made a lot of difference in the heat.
Going to stick to 7am!
My pace was slightly quicker than the last two runs though-11.14 minute miles. Would like to get back to the 10’s at some point but for now I’m happy I can run for 25 minutes (just). Tomorrow is 28 mins 😱

NoTeaForMe · 31/05/2020 10:27

Oh no Sunshine I was hoping the 25mins would get easier by the end of the week. I’ve just done the one at the end of week 6 and I went super slow and it was still tough.

I haven’t been keeping a note of what time of day I’ve been going out so haven’t worked out if I have a better time to go. Maybe I should start paying more attention. I think about 4pm suits me but it’s so hot I can’t do that now.

Sunshineandflipflops · 31/05/2020 11:13

@NoTeaForMe I think it was a combination of it being warmer at 9am than 7am and also my calves were a little tight from walking yesterday in Birkenstock’s.

JonHammIsMyJamm · 31/05/2020 13:21

Penultimate run done (for me that’s 8/2) !

It felt amazing. It was supposed to be 30 mins but felt so good that I kept going and finished at 35 mins because I was time limited but I could’ve kept going for an hour, I reckon. Everything was just perfect. 5.48km.

I feel like I fell back in love with running today.

YesThisIsMe · 31/05/2020 14:24

That sounds fantastic JonHamm.

DH and I are just back from the dreaded Week 5 Run 3, in frankly inadvisable heat and we smashed it (albeit very very slowly). There’s no way I could have done it without the words of all the MN C25Kers in my ears telling me “it’s not your body, it’s your mind”, so thank you very much. Slightly boggled at the 15 minute point that it was “only” 5 minutes left to go, when literally one week ago 5 minutes counted as a really long stint of running.

A bloke in the park yelled sympathetic encouragement at DH, having failed to realise that he was jogging behind me specifically because I’m slower than him rather than vice versa.

JonHammIsMyJamm · 31/05/2020 14:50

Honestly, @YesThisIsMe, I felt invincible. It doesn’t happen often! Well done to you and DH, LOL @ the sympathetic yeller. Whatever he tells you about running at the back, he must’ve looked like he needed the boost Wink.

GuyFawkesDay · 31/05/2020 17:07

Well done those of you running in the heat!

I'm setting a very early alarm for tomorrow for last run of week 7. This time no 10 second walks.....

Vagndidit · 31/05/2020 18:04

I managed the dreaded W5 R3 on Thursday, only to be nearly defeated by today's run. I blame the heat. Serves me right for choosing a lie in over getting up and getting it done before the heat rolled in. 😟 Oh well. Looks like the heat will break by midweek.

Hedgehog26 · 31/05/2020 19:22

Just downloaded the app to start Monday or Tuesday. I’m coming up with lots of excuses why it should be Tuesday but I should just go for it really shouldn’t I?

I’ve put on loads of weight since having my baby and lockdown hasn’t helped. I weigh more now than when she was born a year ago. I’ve (hopefully) got a holiday in November that I’d like to be feeling confident for.

Castoreum · 31/05/2020 23:43

Good luck, Hedgehog, you will be fine. Just start. I'm running tomorrow. I had not run anywhere for approx 3 decades before I started this and I am really enjoying it.

NoTeaForMe · 01/06/2020 06:21

So I’ve woken up early this morning, I need to do W7 R1 today so am thinking il go out early to avoid the heat.
Do I have a cup of tea and something to eat first? I literally can’t do anything without having tea first so I think that one might be non-negotiable....!

imamearcat · 01/06/2020 06:34

I'm up now although not really feeling it! I'll have a coffee and a small snack. It's normally a really good time to run though I think.👍 I'm doing w6r2.

NoTeaForMe · 01/06/2020 06:36

I feel like if I closed my eyes I would go back to sleep. Do I sleep or run? That is not a sentence I would have uttered 7 weeks ago!

TryingToBeBold · 01/06/2020 07:13

@Vagndidit

Does that mean you're on week 6? Don't feel too defeated.. week 6 is hard! Harder than you expect!

@YesThisIsMe
Its exactly that.. all in the mind! Your legs might argue but they go numb after a while Grin

GuyFawkesDay · 01/06/2020 07:57

W7 R3 at 6:30am. Feeling very virtuous 😆

Did 30 minutes!! Was feeling great so just kept going. Managed 4.1km so 5km in 30 minutes is definitely not happening yet 🙄

But my average speed is going up. Last week it was 8 minutes a kilometre. Then 7:40, today it was 7:38. Weirdly I feel slower than last week.

Nice to know I can do 30 minutes though.

OP posts:
GuyFawkesDay · 01/06/2020 07:58

Not 7:38, 7:30.

If I can get 5km in under 35 minutes by the end of week 9 I will be pleased.

imamearcat · 01/06/2020 08:02

Well done everyone! I'm really shocked I'm getting up at 6.30am to go for a bloody run!!! Got 25 solid run next, Ive been running every day but def gonna have a rest day to get myself ready for that bad boy!! My route is uphill at the end of that too so I'll have to change that!

Did you guys find 25 mins much harder than 20?

GuyFawkesDay · 01/06/2020 08:04

Not really. First two were fine, third 25 minuter I found hideous (hot and slightly hungover) and today was lovely.

Getting out early in the heat is the key. I'm not fit enough to cope with it too hot. DH runs in the heat and it doesn't bother him but he does 10km without much issue.

OP posts:
GuyFawkesDay · 01/06/2020 08:07

Once I get to 20/25 mins I think I really find a groove, I am going to do a run next week I think where I just keep going.....see how far and how long I go for.

What I'm finding is that finishing further from home and a longer cool down really helps.... especially if it goes past the village shop for a cold drink on the walk home

Ijustcalled · 01/06/2020 08:10

Morning, can I join? Did run 1 week 1 this morning. My two boys are up by 6 every morning so on the days it’s DH turn to deal with them the plan is I’m going out for C25K. Was out by 6.30. Prefer that as quiet and not too hot. I actually quite enjoyed it this morning - nice to be alone!

Sunshineandflipflops · 01/06/2020 08:20

Just completed week 8 run 1. Managed just over 4K (2.5 miles) in 28 minutes So happy with that. Found it easier than running for 3 minutes less yesterday because I went earlier and it was a bit cooler. Well done to everyone else!

GuyFawkesDay · 01/06/2020 08:21

The alone time is great. I miss my commute and my music do running gives me chance to listen to some of my favourite tunes on my own too!
