@Turniptracker, I think I felt similar at about week 6. The end felt ages away still and I felt like I was stuck farting around with walking breaks and struggling to get going again for the run sections. I definitely felt like I was treading water. I did as others have suggested and pushed on. I graduated a few weeks ago and jog (cant claim it as a run -5k in about 35 mins!) about 3x a week.

imamearcat · 18/06/2020 10:23

Well done everyone, sounds like lots of people taking on week 5 this week! Was such a turning point for me.

I ended up running 12k this morning! I got a bit lost, it was pissing it down and I dropped my phone which completely smashed. 😭

The run itself wasn't too bad - I definitely before slow and far over short and fast!

I've got to do 20 minutes running tomorrow? ShockShockShock Sounds a big jump from two lots of 8 minutes!

Turniptracker · 18/06/2020 12:22

@NCTDN most people surprise themselves with the 20 minute run. You can do it! You'll feel so proud of yourself after! I think most people actually find the w6r1 harder after doing the longer run as it feels strange going back to intervals.

TryingToBeBold · 18/06/2020 13:10

@ThickFast

I've had 8 days off so only 3 runs so far. Still feeling tender. Was considering next monday. A new week new start if all feels okay.
I'm scared of losing fitness but do you know what.. we've done it once we can do it again.

@NCTDN I'm so excited for you! You probably think I'm crazy but you will be surprised at just what you're capable of and I know just like me and so many others you will do perfect on that last run (as intimidating as it feels)!

I love people on week 5!

ThickFast · 18/06/2020 13:46

@TryingToBeBold you can always give it a go and see how it feels.

LionKingOrTigerKing · 18/06/2020 14:33

Ooo can I join?? I started last week! My next run is tomorrow. Week 2 run 2. Although I struggled yesterday running for 90 secondsBlush I can manage 60 but then I struggle and have to walk. Any suggestions to help? Shall I repeat wk1? Or keep going?

I'm 5ft 3, and 13 stone 7, size 14, I also have fibromyalgia and I'm tachycardic too, just to make it complicated lol. I am enjoying it though!

Sexnotgender · 18/06/2020 15:02

Of course you can join @LionKingOrTigerKing the more the merrier! I’m no expert, I’m only on week 3😂 what has your doctor recommended with regard to exercise?

LionKingOrTigerKing · 18/06/2020 15:21

@Sexnotgender they've told me To exercise, I usually just do yoga, but I've had enough of being fat and unfit now so I want to make some changes.Grin

TryingToBeBold · 18/06/2020 17:40

@ThickFast but I'm so scared Sad

TryingToBeBold · 18/06/2020 17:41

@LionKingOrTigerKing was it every 90 second section you struggled with?

ThickFast · 18/06/2020 17:52

@TryingToBeBold I was the same. I kept putting it off coz I was worried it would either hurt and I’d be disappointed. Or I’d suddenly not be able to run anymore and that’d be so disappointing. Which is why I thought I’d just better get on with a really short run. Obvs I’m not trying to persuade you to run if you still hurt. But I can empathise with being nervous.

ThickFast · 18/06/2020 17:54

@imamearcat wow that’s amazing! Think we were at similar points in it all when I was posting under previous name. 12k is immense! I’m still slightly injured so have gone back to 15 min runs really slowly. Hoping to work back up again as I heal

LionKingOrTigerKing · 18/06/2020 17:58

@TryingToBeBold the first one was fine, it was just every one after that, I could only manage 60 seconds and I had to stop😩 going to do my run first thing in the morning and see if it helps, I done yesterday's one at about 7pm. I'm hoping it'll make a difference

TryingToBeBold · 18/06/2020 18:06

@LionKingOrTigerKing okay so you've warmed up fine. In that case slow down if you have to. Pace yourself. Pace becomes so important. I know you want to get those 90 seconds out the way but pace! No such thing as too slow.

@ThickFast it's like you read my mind!

ThickFast · 18/06/2020 18:45

@LionKingOrTigerKing I’d repeat wk 1 and then play around with times of day like you’re going to. And also, a lot of the stopping is in your mind. Run a bit slower if you’re not managing to do the whole 90 seconds. Later on in the programme they say it’s really important not to stop and if you feel like stopping then just slow down. Rather than walk. Is it your legs or lungs that make you want to stop? (btw I’m not an expert and have only been running 3 months!)

ThickFast · 18/06/2020 18:48

@TryingToBeBold let me know how you get on when you start again. It’s good to know it’s not just me who feels nervous about starting again. I’ve had another rest day, you made me think twice about running when there is still a bit of discomfort. So I’ll have another go tomorrow. Just a 15 minute one again.

LionKingOrTigerKing · 18/06/2020 18:53

@TryingToBeBold il try going slower, if it's even possible haha.

@ThickFast it's my lungs, it kinda feels like they're burning or something and I struggle to catch my breath. I think I'm breathing properly, the whole breathing in for each step and breathing out with each step for either two breaths, or four if that makes sense. Shall I start wk 1 again in the morning or shall I try the wk2 run 2?

ThickFast · 18/06/2020 19:11

@LionKingOrTigerKing I found that I breathed faster than suggested. So just did my own breathing rather than counting it because it made me more puffed out if I tried to do it their way. Did you manage to complete week 1 ok? If so, maybe just keep going on week 2 until you can do it without stopping. Lots of people repeat weeks. And maybe it’ll be better psychologically not to be going ‘backwards’ in the programme. Also, just run slower. If you’re feeling exhausted, slow to a really slow jog rather than walk.

TryingToBeBold · 18/06/2020 19:42

Yes to the breathing. I find if I listen to the 4 steps in 4steps out I'll probably faint. I breathe at my own requirements.
I dont know if it helps but I chew gum aswell? I find I get very thirsty and it has a knock on affect so the gum helps. And I have always took water out. Even at week 1.

NCTDN · 18/06/2020 20:03

I used to find breathing an issue but this time (the one I'm determined to make past week 5) I've not had that issue. I don't think I could possibly run any slower than what I already do.

Cherrypi · 18/06/2020 20:40

Just did week7run1 after an eleven day gap being ill and then thunderstorms. Felt like stopping after a minute but carried on and surprised myself by finishing 25 mins. I was very wobbly for the walk cool down though and then bumped into my child's new teacher for next year eek.

Turniptracker · 18/06/2020 20:44

I went out for my w7r3 despite not really wanting to because I felt really stressed out today. Had a wonderful run as the evening was gorgeous, really enjoyed myself and pushed the extra two minutes to get the 4k. Knees are hurting now and still having an issue with foot pain. Regarding breathing - i try and only breathe through my nose. If I need to breathe harder than that I'm going too fast.

ThickFast · 18/06/2020 21:01

I’ve tried only breathing through nose but can’t get enough air in! Really good you got out anyway. It’s so nice when that happens and you have a good run

Sunshineandflipflops · 18/06/2020 22:23

@imamearcat That’s some run! Well done!
I ran 5.5 miles yesterday morning as part of my Garmin 10k training plan and then ran again this afternoon and did 3.3 miles. I thought I’d be ok as it was 30 ish hours between runs but I am having a plantar fasciitis flare up now 😔
Was supposed to be doing a hills session in the morning but might have to push it back to saturday as I really don’t want it to come back full force now that I am running again.
