@NCTDN

I've got to do 20 minutes running tomorrow? ShockShockShock Sounds a big jump from two lots of 8 minutes!
I'm doing the 20 minute run tomorrow too! We will be in it together.
LambChopsMcGee · 19/06/2020 00:21

Hi @LionKingOrTigerKing! I think we're at a dinosaur spot. I'm doing W2R3 tomorrow. Mixed feelings. I like the getting of having been out, but I hate the running part. Trying to tell myself I like it, cos I have to do it anyway!

I've got some good shoes and a good bra, so I'm not too uncomfortable at least...

Stopthehop · 19/06/2020 08:27

Woo hoo I did the 20 minutes without stopping! I'm so pleased with myself. Good luck @NCTDN you can do it.

NCTDN · 19/06/2020 09:07

@Stopthehop so did I! Really pleased with myself, even though I think a snail could go faster I did it!

Stopthehop · 19/06/2020 09:29

Well done @NCTDN I was slow too.

NCTDN · 19/06/2020 09:35

@Stopthehop when are you going out next?

Stopthehop · 19/06/2020 10:00

I'll go out next Sunday.

Stopthehop · 19/06/2020 10:02

Not next Sunday this Sunday.

NCTDN · 19/06/2020 10:08

That's my plan as well. Will update you after it. Well done for todayWink

MegCleary · 19/06/2020 10:11

Did week3r1 on Monday and my left leg has been sore since, the inner aspect of the shin quite painful. Haven’t run since. Really want to keep going. Took some paracetamol yesterday and it helped. Is it a good idea to take some before I try today? I haven’t done stretches before I run, just the walk, would it be worth it? What ones if they are worth it?

UnaOfStormhold · 19/06/2020 10:48

Hello, can I join? Did W1R2 yesterday, bit sore (I suspect because I did a bit of extra running). I've got about 6 pairs of running shoes on order in the hope that one pair will fit so there will probably be a lot of jogging round the house while I decide. I'd love to go to a running shop but even with the shops open it's looking tricky to organise so I thought I'd just go with ordering online. I know from my podiatrist that I'm an overpronator so that makes the selection easier.

I'm reasonably fit but have always hated running as I got awful shinsplints within a minute or two due to a really heavy heelstrike, but slowing the pace, upping the cadence and shifting to a mid/forefoot strike has been a revelation and I've really enjoyed the first two runs.

This all started because I was feeling so sedentary with all the working from home - from doing >13k steps just from my normal routine I was suddenly ending the day with less than 2k, so I've been trying to be active in the evenings once DC is asleep which seems to work for me. It's amazing how many active humans there are around in the park of an evening, quite inspiring!

Oh, and I've been enjoying YogawithAdriene's running cool downs - I do yoga most days so it's nice to add these to my repertoire.

Alamindah · 19/06/2020 12:39

It's finally stopped raining so have been out for the first time this week. I definitely find it harder when it's not first thing but I'm pleased I pushed myself to do it!

mumto2unicorns · 19/06/2020 13:33

W3r1 done. Can't believe I managed the 3 minutes Smile. Need to just stick with it

PrincessWatermelon · 19/06/2020 14:52

Well done to @NCTDN and @Stopthehop on the 20 min run. I did W5R2 today and enjoyed it. In fact, I've been enjoying it more and more. I'm allowing myself 2 rest days now so I'm hopefully prepared and in peak condition to run the 20 mins!! Doing the 8mins today was good - I felt like I get into a rhythm after 3 or 4 mins and then it was easier to keep going. Not sure how 20 mins will feel though!!

I always stretch before and after my run. Mainly sitting on the floor with a leg out and lean over my knee, reaching my toes. And then crossing a leg over my body and hugging it to stretch the glutes. Also standing on one leg with my foot by my bum to stretch the hamstrings. Simple stuff really, but it seems to help.

LambChopsMcGee · 19/06/2020 17:37

W2R3 done, and I think I've reached some new level: I wanted to go for my run.

I had a busy morning working, and was getting stressed and I thought, I really want to be out doing my run, and I knew I'd feel better after. And I did.

Maybe they'll make a runner of me after all!!

sleepwhenidie · 19/06/2020 18:40

Well done stoptheshop! That 20 minutes seems so daunting!

Shin splints...I find warming up ankles and shins by writing each letter of the alphabet in the air with each foot helps a lot to prevent it.

I’m so happy, finished the programme on 5 June and yesterday did my first 6k in 35 mins. I’ve found the last few runs pretty hard going though, especially when it has been hot. Trying to get a handle on why some days feel so much harder than others, but I can’t seem to put my finger on anything (other than obvious things like hot weather)...

TryingToBeBold · 19/06/2020 20:53

@Stopthehop @NCTDN a huge well done on your 20 mins! I know its daunting, but how proud did you feel afterwards?!

@PrincessWatermelon good luck for run 3!

@MegCleary can you look up shin splints? A lot of us are suffering so if the symptoms ate relatable please rest up

I havent been doing any stretches but I think I'll start

ChanklyBore · 19/06/2020 21:07

Welcome to all the new people! I haven’t been on for a while after graduating on the 6th June. I’ve run a few 5ks since then but I’ve felt a bit lost without the c25k and I can feel myself edging into not going as often - and I don’t feel reliable when I do go, in that I know I can run the 5k so sometimes I have a little walk in the middle. And there have been a few days where it’s either been very hot or ive encountered a horrible hill that I’ve just run-walked instead of feeling like a proper runner.

So I’ve decided to go back to week six and repeat weeks 6-7, only I’m trying to go faster in the running parts, and I’m trying to run the hilly routes for endurance. Today I did week 6run1 again which I last did on 9th May, and I’m 49 seconds per km faster than I was then on average. I like having laura to tell me what to do! Hope I can edge back into the thread even doing things a slightly odd way.

Well done everyone on all the running!

TryingToBeBold · 19/06/2020 21:31

@chankly I was the queen of rebelling against the app.. let's do things oddly together!

NCTDN · 19/06/2020 22:25

Aww thanks @TryingToBeBold

chilledteacher · 19/06/2020 22:32

Can I join? did w4 run 2 today. Slightly daunted by the idea of running for 20 mins in 4 runs time but loving it so far :)

firstimemamma · 19/06/2020 22:35

@chilledteacher my next run is the first 20 min stint and I'm nervous too! You're not alone! Smile

chilledteacher · 19/06/2020 22:40

Good luck @firstimemamma!!

ChanklyBore · 20/06/2020 00:39

Thanks @TryingToBeBold ! I can run with you in a slightly odd way.

The 20 minute run in w5r3 is daunting but doable. Say it like a mantra. Daunting but doable. It sounds like a big leap but it’s all in your head, honest. Running eight minutes, fast walking five an then running eight is NOT that different to gently running twenty.

If you are anything like me, you’ll sail through r5w3 then crash and burn in w6r1 which on paper is so much easier .... Why do you think I repeated it today!

firstimemamma · 20/06/2020 07:35

@chilledteacher thank you and to you!
