You can get running socks. I got a pair years ago and they gave me really bad cramp in my feet

PrincessWatermelon · 14/06/2020 13:15

I bought myself some Under Armour socks. They're short ankle ones and nice and thick. I've had no problems with them.

PrincessWatermelon · 14/06/2020 20:36

Those who have graduated already, is anyone using an app/programme to build them to 10k? Might be getting ahead of myself somewhat, but wondering if I'd be able to run my local 10k early Sept...

BookShop · 14/06/2020 22:10

@PrincessWatermelon I tried the app but did better just running with music and some moral support from a NRC workout. Signing up for a 10k in September is very achievable.

PrincessWatermelon · 14/06/2020 22:13

Thanks @BookShop. I have signed up and paid my money!! Considering I've only managed a 5 minute run thus far (W4) I am aiming high!! However both my sisters are at similar points (although both have run more than me in the past) and they are doing it so peer pressure has played it's part! Should be done 5k by end July and then might have 6 weeks to get to 10k.

Frouby · 14/06/2020 22:19

Also had a nightmare run today. W7 R1 so 25 mins. Was hungover, tired and did I mention hungover. Was also really busy with cyclists and dogs and people everywhere so couldn't get into a rhythm. Managed 20 mins then called it a day.

Day off tomorrow then will repeat that run I think. Or see how I do Tuesday. Did 25 mins pretty easily Friday so I know I can do it.

NoTeaForMe · 14/06/2020 23:10

I started week 9 today. So close to the end now! I’m not getting far in my 30mins, haven’t even hit 4k in that time yet, let alone 5!
It was hot again today and I very nearly called it a day about 10 times through the run, somehow managed to carry on though. Need to make sure I go out when it’s cooler next time, I don’t do well running in this heat...or maybe I just don’t do well at running!

Hedgehog26 · 15/06/2020 07:35

Feeling discouraged this morning, got weighed this morning and I’ve put on 2.6lbs this week. I ran 4 times this week. I did have a cheat day for my birthday and beers and a take away Saturday. But I didn’t think I’d eaten enough to put on that much. But now I’m not feeling any motivation to go for a run this morning

Beachcomber · 15/06/2020 07:38

I've finished week 7 but I only just make it to the end of the 25 minutes each time. Possibly not helped by the fact that my last 5 mins is (very slightly) uphill.

I know week 8 is only 3 mins more but I'm not sure I can do it quite yet....

I'll give it a go but may have to repeat a week. The 25 mins just don't seem to be getting any easier...

PrincessWatermelon · 15/06/2020 08:51

@Hedgehog26 - am I right in thinking you're early on ish in c25k? I'm only week 4 and have been weighing every week, as I always do. This week is the first time I've lost rather than gained weight. Your body hold onto water as the muscle heals, so you do naturally weigh a bit more. I'm hoping this settles down. Also I last ran Sat morning and weighed Monday, so 48 hours. Normally I run Sun so only 24 hours. I suspect that extra day makes a difference to the water weight too.

Don't be disheartened. Running is about more than the scales - it's fitness and body changes/toning. You're doing a great thing by getting moving.

Frouby · 15/06/2020 08:58

Hedgehog go for the run.

You will be heavier with the salt from the takeaway and water retention from the beer. Especially if you don't normally drink or eat takeaway.

If I stop drinking for a few days I lose about 4lbs. It's just fluid retention. Go sweat it off, drink plenty of water today and weigh again on Wednesday. I weigh daily. Had a beery weekend and takeaway. Weigh 3lbs more today than friday. It will come straight back off.

imamearcat · 15/06/2020 09:23

My weight is still a bit up and down - I had lost last week but then put s ok back on over the weekend. I really think I'm feeling quite a lot different though so going to stick at it!

Had a bit of a difficult run this morning. Managed a fairly slow 10K but had a banging head ache (the kind that hurts when you run) and TMI but needed a poo from about half way round!Blush think it's giving me a bit of an upset tummy.

On the plus side I didn't feel that tired or like I'd gone that far.. so pleased on that front.

PrincessWatermelon · 15/06/2020 09:52

W4R3 - very pleased with myself. Felt I had some left in the tank after the final 5min run, so pushed myself and kept going for 8mins. I added an extra loop on my route so hoped I'd have covered 5k, but not quite. Still did 4.76k in 34 mins, so happy.

Roll on the dreaded W5!!

Hedgehog26 · 15/06/2020 10:02

Thanks everyone, I might swap my weighing day to Wednesday. Give any water retention from the weekend to wear off.

Went for my run. Glad I went out actually, it was a lovely morning. My pacing was a bit off because I bumped into a neighbour on a walk bit then ram off quite fast so I wasn’t running just ahead of him for ages

notheragain4 · 15/06/2020 10:03

@PrincessWatermelon that's amazing well done! I did W4R3 today too but didn't do as well as you! I think I'm going to do it at least once more before moving on to w5 on Friday.

Sunshineandflipflops · 15/06/2020 13:52

Well done everyone, some great progress!
I attempted my first post c25k run on Saturday and I couldn't quite run the whole 5k without Jo Whiley in my ears so I decided to start the 10k garmin coach plan a little earlier than planned. I think I need that plan to motivate me,

I was set to do my benchmark run this morning then my friend asked if I wanted to go for a run with her so I ran to her house and completed my benchmark run of just under a mile, then did 3.85 miles with her, walk/running as it was HOT and then another 0.6 home, so 5.5 miles altogether.

My next coach plan run is on wed and I have to do some hill work so that will be fun 😐

Castoreum · 15/06/2020 14:32

I've been struggling a bit and had a few days off (doing other fitness stuff but not running). Did W4R2 today and did not like it much better than the first time. I have a feeling I might need to repeat week 4 as I would like to not be feeling so awful at the end of it before I tackle anything harder.

GuyFawkesDay · 15/06/2020 17:42

Fell over today.

Hoping it makes me run faster like a PP!!

Sexnotgender · 15/06/2020 18:31

Going to do W3R1 shortly, really can’t be bothered, got horrible period pains and I’m exhausted but going anyway.

Sexnotgender · 15/06/2020 20:41

Managed my run, was ok. Glad I went.

Hedgehog26 · 15/06/2020 21:28

Did anyone see @GuyFawkesDay? Hope you didn’t hurt yourself

Well done @sexnotgender. I never come back from a run that I didn’t want to go on wishing I’d stayed in. Even if you just do a half hearted run it’s better than no run

LambChopsMcGee · 15/06/2020 21:33

W2R1 today for me. Checking in to be inspired by you lot!

It was hard to do the last 90 seconds! I was tired and it was so hot today. Looking forward to Wednesday's run though and already thinking about how far I'll be able to go in a few weeks!

RonBurgundyspanpipe · 15/06/2020 21:57

Struggling with the consolidation runs without the app. Had two successes out of three consolidation runs where I got to 30 mins and I'm happy with that, I suppose it's because the progress has flatlined. It's still very early days but you see improvements every week on the programme. I have got loads of muscle in my legs now and my thighs are noticeably less wobbly and my bum is a little smaller so I shouldn't complain.

Any podcast recommendations, I ran with RunPod today and enjoyed that as a break from music, annoyingly I started on the most recent episode rather than the first (which I hate as I'm a bit ocd about sequencing). Looking for something supportive or funny, nothing too heavy.

Sunshineandflipflops · 15/06/2020 22:06

@RonBurgundyspanpipe Have you listened to 'shagged, married, annoyed'? It's a weekly podcast with Chris Ramsay and his wife Rosie and is very funny. I also listen to RunPod and sometimes Happy Place by Fearne Cotton.

NCTDN · 15/06/2020 22:11

Can I join this or are you all on the same part? I'm on week 5.
