Morning everyone!

I managed to complete it on Thursday so going out today for my first run without the app. Will be interesting to see how I get on without Sarah's voice cheering me on Blush

I managed to wear my trainers out over the 9 weeks, and now that I know I will keep up the running I'm going to treat myself to some running clothes. New trainers are on their way but can anyone recommend some running leggings that have a side pocket that fits a phone and doesn't cost the Earth? Fabletics keeps popping up on my social media but I've seen quite a few negative reviews for them

Sexnotgender · 13/06/2020 09:04

W2R3 done on a very wet Scottish morning! First run was a bit rubbish but settled in to it.

sleepwhenidie · 13/06/2020 09:27

Hey, well done to everyone here, I am late to the party, completed W9 last week, very happy. I had plantar fasciitis so was building up gradually and nursing it. It’s still hovering and first steps in the morning are horrible but I’m so pleased to have completed the programme!

Just to say, warming up shins and ankles by ‘writing’ each letter of the alphabet in the air with each foot before a run can help a lot with preventing shin pain/splints.

Leggings...IMO SweatyBetty are just the best though they are expensive. They wear and wash forever and stay looking and feeling good. The Zero Gravity have a side pocket. I have a £25 intro code to share if that helps! me.to/OFQfi8o. I also
like Nike but don’t know about pockets...I’m. not a fan of Fabletics, products just ok but CS awful and subscription model is a PITA.

sleepwhenidie · 13/06/2020 09:30

Apologies, discount code should read

refer me.to/OFQfi8o

W3R3 done early doors this morning. Did about 0.6km less today than on my last run. But my shins didn’t hurt so I think I’ve found a good pace. I did feel like I could of carried on, but seems like my shins are my weakness so I’ll have to go at their pace.

Weirdly the longer runs weren’t as bad as I thought because I could get into a rythmn. Got to buy some proper running shoes when I get paid on Monday.

Hope everyone’s injuries heal well

PrincessWatermelon · 13/06/2020 10:52

W4R2 completed. Enjoyed it today, as I felt that I'd done it before so I could do it again. And it was a gorgeously sunny day and got me out of doing breakfast!!

firstimemamma · 13/06/2020 10:56

I'm going to start week 5 on Monday and i'm a little nervous. It looks set to be quite a hard week which concludes with 20 mins of non-stop running!! Anyone got any words of wisdom??

GuyFawkesDay · 13/06/2020 11:00

@FallenSkies I get my leggings from Amazon. Company called NeonySweets. They have phone pocket on the leg and are great with high waist that doesn't move, and really comfy. I've not worn my really old cheapy Aldi ones much since as they lack the pocket and wriggle down.

I really fancy some "proper" posh ones like sweaty Betty but can't justify the cost!

firsttimemamma 20 mins seems like a huge step up doesn’t it. Don’t be daunted, give it a go - you’ll probably surprise yourself and it makes a big difference psychologically when you’ve done it, 30 minutes will stop seeming far out of reach (which is why the 20 mins is there I think!)

GuyFawkesDay · 13/06/2020 11:03

@firstimemamma my tip would be slow. Just potter. It's about getting the time running, not being fast.

The 20 minutes scared me massively. I was running a route which was harder first 10 minutes (gradual small hill) and I just turned round at the bell, knowing it'd feel loads easier in the second 10 minutes, and then I knew I'd be ok.

The feeling when you've done it is just brilliant, you will be absolutely fine.

@sleepwhenidie & op - thank you both! Feeling a bit better about things now Smile

Sexnotgender · 13/06/2020 11:09

I’m wearing Nike leggings, they had a sale plus an extra 30% off recently so bought all my running kit.

YesThisIsMe · 13/06/2020 11:16

I’m just about to pick up some M&S ones which I bought to qualify for the summer beauty box - so crossed fingers that they fit.

TryingToBeBold · 13/06/2020 21:27

@firstimemamma

You will surprise yourself.
Genuinely. You'll want to quit. You'll think "I can't do this.. how. How. When I die at the end of 5/8 mins"

But you'll do it.

If it helps I cried when I finished mine. I had that little faith In myself.

firstimemamma · 13/06/2020 21:56

Thanks @TryingToBeBold .

Slowturtle · 14/06/2020 07:26

Another Sweaty Betty convert here. I'm not a fan of the Zero Gravity leggings as they go see through when I bend and I'm not a fan of my knickers showing! But their Powers are the absolute best leggings that I've tried (and I've tried a lot). Big pocket on leg for phone, big pocket at the back for everything else, high waisted so holds everything in, never fall down so no pulling up when running, and if you're short like me their 7/8 lengths are perfect as full length leggings. They're expensive, but well worth it. They also have great range of patterns and colours. I found a 20% code on Instagram a month back SBDebbie20 which may still work.

Alamindah · 14/06/2020 09:07

I Would also recommend sweaty Betty's power leggings. I haven't tried many others and so this was guesswork but they're really comfy great pockets and stay up! I've just done my run and it was very humid and I'm very sweaty!

notheragain4 · 14/06/2020 09:50

Not made it out this weekend when I should have done as only ran twice (W4 1&2) this week. Going to go out M, W, F this and will probably do all W4 again as I think I'm going to need to bed that in before week 5!!

GuyFawkesDay · 14/06/2020 10:07

Huge fail here today.

Shorts rubbed my thighs, also wearing wrong undies that were not staying where they should, armband meant my mapmyrun was stopping and starting every 15 seconds and I just....couldn't after 2km. So I walked and sprinted sections home over the rest of the 3km I did. Pouring with sweat too. It's so sticky out there.

Will get up early tomorrow and try again. Just one of those days.

Off to order better shorts!

Sounds like a nightmare!!! They do happen though...running belt rather than armband?

GuyFawkesDay · 14/06/2020 10:25

I'm going to get some shorts with a phone pocket in. I need things to stop the thigh chafe 😭

What size phone do the Sweaty Betty fit? I have a pretty large iPhone 6s Plus or something and it's frigging huge!!

My birthday soon, so I might ask for vouchers.

PrincessWatermelon · 14/06/2020 10:50

After googling Sweaty Betty Power leggings, Instagram helpfully showed me this advert!

Sidge · 14/06/2020 11:21

@FallenSkies I have about five pairs of Capri running leggings from Amazon made by Sugar Pocket. They’re super comfy, have two deep side pockets for a phone, high waist with a thick waistband that doesn’t roll up or dig in.

I don’t wear undies under them as they’re thick enough not to, so no chafing or wedgies!!

I’m sure there are better ones but I didn’t want to spend a lot.

Turniptracker · 14/06/2020 12:05

Really pleased this morning. Started week 7 and managed to do one of my km in 6 minutes! Does anyone else struggle with their socks? I know it sounds weird but mine, no matter the pair, bunch up under my toes after about 10 mins of running and it feels like I'm running on a twig the rest of the way. Is there such a thing as running socks??
