@NCTDN everyone’s welcome. We are all at different points and there’s so graduates here too to inspire us to keep going

Hedgehog26 · 15/06/2020 22:17

Is running 2 days in a row a bad idea? I feel like going for a run again tomorrow but I don’t know if I’ll just be sluggish

RonBurgundyspanpipe · 15/06/2020 22:21

Thanks @Sunshineandflipflops I spotted Happy Place when I was browsing and I like Chris Ramsey. I'll have a look before the next run.

@NCTDN we're all at different stages. Join in, there's always someone at your stage and loads of support.

Forgot to mention I got some new running clothes today, I got a New Balance t shirt and it's very flattering, loose and cool. I also got Reebok running leggings which stayed up the whole way round.

NCTDN · 15/06/2020 22:30

Thanks hedgehog. Feeling v proud of myself for summoning up the ability to go for a run after work as I definitely find mornings easier.

NCTDN · 16/06/2020 07:24

@RonBurgundyspanpipe I need to some flattering t shirts. Where did you get it from?

Alamindah · 16/06/2020 07:58

Hideous migraine yesterday, so I'm feeling very wrung out and hungover today, so am missing my run this morning. Will go for a walk instead

Turniptracker · 16/06/2020 09:26

@Hedgehog26 apparently the rest day is non negotiable. Something about running actually damages your muscles so you must take a day to allow them to repair themselves. There is a really handy guide on the healthunlocked forum here:
healthunlocked.com/couchto5k/posts/136914770/faq-post........how-to-run-c25k

Murmurur · 16/06/2020 09:34

NCTDN welcome, I'm week 5 too. If you look back a couple of pages there is some great motivational posts for tackling week 5.

I've done 2 lots of W5R2 and I think today's the day. W5R3 here I come! Tryingtobebold and Jo Whiley both think I can do it Grin

Well done everyone for your runs. We can do this. Alamindah hope you feel better soon. Glad you have decided not to run today.

imamearcat · 16/06/2020 09:52

@Hedgehog26 I run consecutive days and seem to be ok but advice tends to be a big no.

Anyway sounds like you are better off doing a different type of exercise on your rest days - swimming, cycling, cross training etc. It's because it's a high impact activity so you're meant to leave time for your muscles / joints etc. to recover to avoid injury, especially if you are a beginner. Fine to do low impact exercise and / or exercises that use different muscle groups.

mama4321 · 16/06/2020 11:37

@choc27 Did you manage a run at the weekend? Hope the injury is better.

choc27 · 16/06/2020 14:05

Hi @mama4321, yeah I did get out on Sunday for the first time. It wasn't a great run but luckily the ankle didn't hurt so that's the main thing. It felt really hard after 2 weeks of no running though so I was a bit gutted at that. Probably a good thing for the ankle though as I only did just under 3k and that was with some walking too. How are you getting on?

RonBurgundyspanpipe · 16/06/2020 14:37

@NCTDN it was from TKMaxx, looking on the New Balance website i got a real bargain. Got a New Balance sports bra too which was lovely and comfortable.

@choc27 great news that you got back out, I'm sure your fitness will return really quickly now you're back out again.

choc27 · 16/06/2020 15:23

Thanks, yeah me too! Was tempted to go again today but think it's better if I have 2 rest days at least for now as I'll be gutted if my ankle hurts again!

Murmurur · 16/06/2020 17:58

@LambChopsMcGee it's amazing how it steps up.

Well, I managed my W5R3 20 mins and did an extra couple of mins to get to the end of the path. I did that. Me! Jo told me at 15 mins that I only had another 5 to do and I knew I'd be ok from there. Thank you so much for the encouragement especially @TryingToBeBold

I am off to enjoy home made pizza and 2 days off Grin

Frouby · 16/06/2020 21:00

I did w7 r2 today after a disastrous r2 on sunday. Loved it, managed to pace myself properly and even picked the pace up slightly for the last couple of minutes.

I also went and rode my baby pony. She's very new to being ridden and I haven't rode for years apart from a few times back end of last year. Gave her the winter off to consolidate her knowledge and then the weather was vile and then lockdown happened. Was lovely to be back on board.

So now I feel pleasingly achey and tired but like I have achieved positive things. Will ride again tomorrow then run again thursday.

TryingToBeBold · 16/06/2020 21:56

Sorry all for lack of check in. Shin splints has made me feel sad.
But healing well, no longer sore when walking and only when pressure applied so fingers crossed for the weekend

@Murmurur excellent news!! Knew you could. Isnt it amazing know how week 1 seemed so hard but now seems such a distant memory.

Arent you proud! And so you should!

I have heard that post graduation can be hard to motivate because.. you've hit your target of 5k/30 mins but.. it's best to set another target. I.e. quicker time/6k to motivate you again

GuyFawkesDay · 17/06/2020 07:27

My week 9 is on hold after my tumble 😭

My bad shoulder (previous dislocation) is so sore. It outweighs the thumping bruises on my thigh and shin and I just can't swing my arms pain free to run.

Give me a few days and more ibuprofen and I'll be back on it 😁

Stopthehop · 17/06/2020 08:57

I've just done wk5 run 2, this is the stage I gave up last time. Had a few days off running because we've been decorating and sorting out the house so it was nice to get out today and do it.

Stopthehop · 17/06/2020 08:58

Sorry meant to say I hope you feel better soon Guyfawkes

Sunshineandflipflops · 17/06/2020 09:04

Feel better soon @GuyFawkesDay.

I went out early this morning and did my first proper run on my 10k garmin training plan. It was a mix of run/walk/cadence training/goal pace repeats and I enjoyed it more than I thought I would but I think I need that structure to keep me motivated. I covered just under 5.5 miles in just over an hour so that's my daily steps and more done by 8am!

Hedgehog26 · 17/06/2020 09:19

Hope your back to normal soon @GuyFawkesDay

W3R3 for me. My distance stayed the same as my last run, around 2.5km, despite an extra 2mins running but my shins aren’t hurting so just going to keep going and assume the distance will build up naturally

Murmurur · 17/06/2020 09:55

Get well soon @TryingToBeBold and @GuyFawkesDay. @Stopthehop well done, good luck for that third run. I said to myself that it's fine if I don't do the whole 20 mins. All I need to do is just keep getting out of the door and I'll do it sooner or later.

@Sunshineandflipflops that's incredible progress. I can't imagine being able to run that far.

Sunshineandflipflops · 17/06/2020 10:16

@Murmurur Thanks, I didn't run the whole way - it was a bit like C25k in that it was run/walk/sprint (well, running faster). Still, it's pushing those miles.

JonHammIsMyJamm · 17/06/2020 11:45

Howdy all. Long time, no see.

Quick check in to log my first run in 8 days Shock, as had a few days off due to hurting my neck and the been really lethargic thanks to crazy hayfever. Was very worried about getting back on the horse today but apart from a LOT of sweat, it was pretty good. No faster or more impressive but 5.3km completed. Just glad to have broken my duck.

mama4321 · 17/06/2020 12:17

Good to hear that some of the injuries are starting to heal. I'm happy to hear you are back out running again @choc27 I am sure you will very quickly be back where you were.
I am doing fine thanks, running 3 times a week, 4 or 5k at a time. Amazing! It still takes me 40 mins ish to do 5k, but some of that is slow woodland track running, being very careful not to trip, and in some places the grasses either side of the track are knee high or more which slows me too (and makes me wet).
I have been trying to get it all feeling more comfortable since graduating, and bring my heart rate down a bit. Anyone know about heart rate and running? There seems to be conflicting information out there. I don't feel any great strain now but my fitbit measures my heart rate as constantly at peak, (though it does vary depending where I wear it).

I am using the Zombies run! app without zombie chases, but the plan is to now add them back in to give some faster intervals, and also to tackle a more hilly route.
I still can't believe how comfortable I am finding it only 3 months after being a complete non runner. Keep going everyone, it really does work!
Happy running everybody Grin
