I don’t get embarrassed as I don’t think running is anything to be embarrassed about. I did start doing a loop close to my house but quite set back and shaded but as soon as I was running the whole thing I ventured a bit further out around my neighbourhood.

Farontothemaddingcrowd · 09/06/2020 21:33

I don’t get embarrassed but there is lots of countryside where I live, so I can run most of the 5k without seeing anyone. Sometimes that freaks me out as it feels too isolated though! I have run back home to my estate and passed people, all red and sweaty, but by then I don’t care as I’ve finished the run!

Thank you for the congratulations- I hope running is something I can stick with.

What do people do once they finish the programme? I would like to go further, but also faster (wouldn’t we all!)

notheragain4 · 09/06/2020 21:59

Any suggestions for painful legs? They let me down today. Wasn't my chest/breathing, I coped fine with that, but my calves really burned and it was a real struggle to carry on (muscle pain, not bone ache like shin splits).

TryingToBeBold · 09/06/2020 22:02

@Farontothemaddingcrowd

So I'm trying to improve on time. I've set myself a target I would like to get to
Other than that I think I will extend the route when I feel physically able to and I'm not desperate for 5k to be over

mama4321 · 09/06/2020 22:48

Congratulations @Fudgefeet and daughter.

ChanklyBore · 09/06/2020 23:10

Well done fudgefeet! And DD.

I haven’t experience muscle pain in my legs. Achey knees with the occasional sharp knee pain for me. Is it a stretching thing? I need to get better at stretching as in I basically don’t do it. And I should, so I’m not the best person to advise.

In my extensive experience of having run 5k exactly four times, farontothemaddingcrowd, and only once outside of the c25k, I’m aiming to run 5k in under 30 mins. Then I think the next aim is to run 5k in under 30 minutes without feeling like I’m going to faint. After that, jury is out.

FloatOn · 10/06/2020 10:37

W3 R2 completed this morning! Not too bad thankfully

That's so weird! Ha I literally see a marker (like.. a bush) and think 1. Next marker.. a daisy patch.. 2. Next marker a dip in the path.. 3

I've been running around my house as I have 2 small kids at home and am still trying to work from home, I count how many times I pass the backdoor step/front door in 90 seconds then in 3 mins!

TryingToBeBold · 10/06/2020 10:45

Has anyone yet ran a 5k without a mental block of "I can't do this" "I'm too tired".

Like constant for me Grin

imamearcat · 10/06/2020 11:05

@TryingToBeBold yeah I'm on it now with the 5k. I think it's as much about learning to pace yourself as it is improving fitness.

I've had another longish run today, defo need a rest day tomorrow!

Personally I can cope with my legs hurting a bit but I always used to have that awful out of breath/headache/ear ache kind of feeling from running but I don't seem to have that anymore. So I'm all good.

I think my aim is to be able to do 3x 10K a week. I think I'd be really pleased with that and hopefully far enough to make me thinner if I eat sensibly!

TryingToBeBold · 10/06/2020 11:21

@imamearcat pacing I'm okay at. I just think every km.. nah im done. I'll turn home.ill call for a lift hahaha

Frouby · 10/06/2020 12:11

Hello all

Was posting on either this or another thread but its dropped off my active threads so joining in with this one.

W6, R2 done today. 2 x 10 mins and felt really easy so that's good! For about the last 3 mins I really picked my pace up. I say picked it up, I went from a slow shuffle to a more active one.

25 min run next time. We coped OK with the 20 minute one, but was glad for it to end. I run with dd (15) and ds (6) and the dog which is a bit chaotic at times but we live 5 mins from the trans pennine trail and a lake and nature reserve so plenty of off road running which is brilliant.

Sunshineandflipflops · 10/06/2020 12:13

@Farontothemaddingcrowd My plan is to stick to the 5k a few more times until it gets a little easier and then start the 10k plan on my garmin watch. You put a goal time in and it works out a plan for you to run 3 ish times a week but mixes up the types of run (interval, etc).

I have decided I am not too fussed about pace any more. I have run for years but always ran too fast and ended up stopping a few times during each run to catch my breath as I couldn't sustain it. The C25k programme has taught me to slow right down but keep running. That means my pace has gone from 9-something minute miles to 10-something minute miles BUT I can now run 5k without stopping!

So I am going to put an achievable time in for the 10k with the aim of not stopping rather than time. I am (hopefully) going to Romania in October with my running club to run a 10k so I have a good goal to work towards. I ran a 10k in 57 mins a few years ago with no stops so I know I have it in me somewhere!

Stopthehop · 10/06/2020 12:26

I did wk4 run 3 earlier. I was fine with the other runs this week but I really struggled today.

ThickFast · 10/06/2020 13:13

So I did my first run again after injuring my leg with shin splints. Anyway it was a bit sore so I only went out for 15 mins of running plus the warm up/down walk. It doesn’t feel worse so I’m taking that as a positive. So good to be out again after a week of not running. I missed it! I’ll have to work my way back up to 30 mins. I’ve also started doing a 30 day stretch/strength and balance challenge designed for runners. So that feels positive too

TryingToBeBold · 10/06/2020 13:15

@stopthehop week 4 is HARD
I dont even know why but it's a bloody hard week. I think someone said somewhere that this is the wall in the programme and you hit it hard.

Sexnotgender · 10/06/2020 14:20

Meant to do W2R2 today but it’s absolutely pissing with rain and I don’t feel well so will go tomorrow. Plus if I go tomorrow I’ll have my new Apple Watch to wear😊

Murmurur · 10/06/2020 19:19

Stopthehop I also had an awful run in week 4. It was run 2 for me. It knocked me back because until then they'd been getting easier through the week. Don't let it scare you about the next one.

Well, I went out meaning to redo W5R1 and ended pressing W5R2 by mistake. I ran it anyway. I figured it was just meant to be. But I'm rapidly running out of excuses for avoiding the big 2-0.

TryingToBeBold · 10/06/2020 20:52

@Murmurur dont worry about the big 2-0!
I cant wait to see what you're capable of and shock yourself Grin

Sunshineandflipflops · 10/06/2020 22:17

Alarm set for 6.45am to run week 9 run 3 and graduate!

notheragain4 · 10/06/2020 22:43

I've told myself if I graduate I can get an Apple Watch and air pods!

Sexnotgender · 10/06/2020 22:46

I've told myself if I graduate I can get an Apple Watch and air pods!

My new Apple Watch is getting delivered tomorrow, I’m so excited!! I have AirPods, they’re fantastic, I really struggle to get earphones to fit in my stupid little ears😂

Castoreum · 10/06/2020 22:50

I'm really struggling with Week 4. I know I've only done one but I'm meant to be doing run 2 tomorrow and it's the first time I don't feel like it. I can see myself repeating this week. Someone give me some words of wisdom to get me through tomorrow!

NoTeaForMe · 10/06/2020 23:02

@Castoreum I have W8R3 to do tomorrow and I can honestly say I really struggled with Week 4 the most. W4R1 is the only one I’ve had to repeat (so far!) but I took it slowly and did it and if I can then you definitely can too. If you need to repeat a run or a week then do it. None of that matters, but do consider slowing down a bit, you might find you can do it! Good luck.

Castoreum · 10/06/2020 23:07

Oh, thank you. That is good to hear. To be honest, I am pretty slow already esp by the end. Not sure I can go much slower without reverting to walking!! But it is nice to hear that W4R1 was hard for you too. It seems like such a big jump from last week.

Sunshineandflipflops · 11/06/2020 08:27

I did it! I graduated! Did my final run and carried on to 5k in 32 mins 34 seconds, so a minute off tuesday's 5k!

I pushed my pace and almost died at the end so going to do it a few more times before I begin my 10k plan.
