Week 4 and week 6 run 1 were the worst for me. Week four I think because I think you are finding your feet still and you are kind of in between starting out and being able to run for any period of time of that makes sense. Going back to intervals at the start of week six wasn't great. I think I find that I need 5-8mins to get into my rhythm properly so the stopping and starting wasn't really my thing by that stage.

Merename · 11/06/2020 08:30

This week 4 conversation is really helping me! I’m due to start wk5, but sacked off the run this morning as I was up for 2hrs in the night with the kids. Kind of regretting not going now tho, maybe it would have been fine. Do other people do that, avoid runs if really tired?

But exactly same as you, @Castoreum, wk4 was first week I was dragging myself out, prior to that I was gambolling out the door, all excited with myself!!

PrincessWatermelon · 11/06/2020 08:37

After dreading it, I did W4R1 just now. And I did it!!!!! Didn't find it too awful either. After the first 3 mins I was doubting I'd manage it, but surprisingly found I did get into a rhythm for the 5 min runs. That must be it - actually settling into a rhythm that doesn't take as much energy and a pace that suits.

For the first time, though, I was talking to myself. Jo Whiley says about positive affirmation. I was all over that! Decided to ignore all embarrassment and was running through the high st saying "I love running " "I am a runner" and "I've got this. I can do this. This is me, running". It really helped. And when she said "you're doing great" I replied "yeah I am!!"

notheragain4 · 11/06/2020 08:47

I have W4R2 once I dropped the littlest at school. Did run 1 on Tuesday and really struggled but I had to go too fast in places for people who stood to the side for me! Going to stretch off now and hope it goes getter, the first 8 minutes were surprisingly fine.

TryingToBeBold · 11/06/2020 08:54

@Merename
I do. If I've had a bad night with the baby and I'm shattered.. i dont do it. I always make a point to do it the day after and i feel so much better for it.

Sunshineandflipflops · 11/06/2020 09:31

Well I was chuffed anyway!

notheragain4 · 11/06/2020 09:56

We did it! And got drenched in the process! Pretty sure walkers could have over taken me, but I did it.

NoTeaForMe · 11/06/2020 10:21

@Sunshineandflipflops CONGRATULATIONS! That is such an amazing time too. I’ll be happy to be under 40mins when I eventually do the 5k! Well done!
I have my last week 8 run today. Though I’m not exactly sticking to the 28 mins. I have a few tracking apps on the go to find one that I like and will stick with, by the time I’ve turned them all off I’ve done over 29mins. Doesn’t seem like a lot to most but I’m so pleased I’m doing it. 30 mins next week and for the last run I’m just going to keep going!

imamearcat · 11/06/2020 10:32

Well done everyone sounds like some good achievements this morning!

I was a bit of an idiot this morning. Was meant to be a rest day but decided to go for a walk.. long story short but ended up running 10K!! I wasn't even feeling good, it wasn't a 'good run' so it was really bloody hard!!! Why did I do that to myself!? Anyway hopefully will be easier from now.

PrincessWatermelon · 11/06/2020 11:12

Congratulations to @Sunshineandflipflops and @notheragain4 to graduating!! Really well done.

Sunshineandflipflops · 11/06/2020 11:17

Thank you 😊

Sidge · 11/06/2020 11:35

Well done to all the graduates!

And well done @sunshineandflipflops that’s a brilliant time!

(By the way we were on the dating thread together last year and you were all loved up - how’s that going?)

Sunshineandflipflops · 11/06/2020 11:53

Hi @Sidge, I remember you!

Thanks, yes I am still loved up Blush. It's been almost 10 months now and he has been living here through lockdown but is moving out into his own place back where he lived before at the end of this month. It's about an hour away and we managed well before whilst still having our own space and time so it's all good!

How about you?

Sexnotgender · 11/06/2020 12:04

Bloody Apple have delayed my watch arriving until tomorrow so will have to run with my phone still today😏 will go tonight.

chunkyrun · 11/06/2020 12:05

I've told myself if I graduate I can get an Apple Watch and air pods!

^^ congratulations to all the graduates. What are you treating yourself to?

Turniptracker · 11/06/2020 12:09

Hiya, I just found this thread, hope it is ok to join half way through! I'm about to do w6r3 and really felt like it was time to get some support for the longer runs because they terrify me! I've never been able to run long distance, even when I was a 100m sprinter for school I couldn't do the 800m for the life of me! Any tips to get through the longer runs? It's all I've got to look forward to now 🙈 Also - anyone elses knees hurting?

Farontothemaddingcrowd · 11/06/2020 13:31

Apple watches are great, I love mine.

Did a really slow 5k today in 38 minutes, so I seem to have gone backwards. I’m on a fast day today though so putting it down to that.

Farontothemaddingcrowd · 11/06/2020 13:31

@Turniptracker my knees hurt sometimes and I usually have a good rest day if that happens.

TryingToBeBold · 11/06/2020 14:52

@NoTeaForMe that's exactly what I did. Turned off my app and ran what felt good and as a result I ended up graduating at 5k rather than 30mins.

I've done 4 5k runs now and only one under 40mins but they are improving slowly but surely!

RonBurgundyspanpipe · 11/06/2020 15:08

I've done consolidation run 1, performed pretty much the same as my graduation run but I've planned out a 5k route which I'm going to stick to, my aim is to get a lamppost further each time. Having the strava voiceover helps too, it tells you when you've hit each 1/2k and your time and pace.

@HGC2 congratulations, great distance in 30 minutes. You're on the same plan as me.

@TryingToBeBold well done on graduation and going 40 minutes. 33 minutes has been my limit so far which has been my favourite run too. I have yet to quiet the voice that tells me I can't do it, it's like a constant battle with myself. I can sometimes zone out for 5minutes but rarely longer than that. I'm yet to enjoy the scenery on the way round.

@YorkshireParentalPerson give it a go, I promise you no one will be interested in you when you're out running, and I mean that in a nice way. I see in a later post you've been out, well done.

@TwistyHair @choc27 I hope you're getting some relief from the injuries, I have no practical advice but can imagine how frustrating that must be. The health unlocked forum says you don't lose any fitness over the course of not exercising for two weeks and after that its a slow decline. I know I start to panic if I miss a run thinking all my hard work will be wasted but apparently not.

@imamearcat fantastic time, that's amazing. What a bruise!! I think you need a challenge like 10k, you've absolutely annihilated 5k.

@carrottopper I'm not weighing myself as I'd be horrified but my jeans feel a little looser round the waist. My calves are much bigger and my thighs are a little more toned.

@Mysterian well done on 30 minutes, I cried the first time I did it

@JonHammIsMyJamm congrats, another graduate! What's your plan from now?

@Bagelsandbrie well done, learning how to pace yourself is part of the programme and is really important on the longer runs. I only learned it after failing a couple of runs.

@BekindStayhome well done on week 9. Health unlocked has a C25K forum with loads of great advice but they recommend always having at least one rest day even for very experienced runners, it's all to avoid injury and let your body recover. I currently take two rest days, I can just tell my muscles need it.

@Sunshineandflipflops well done, another very decent time for a 5k. And @Farontothemaddingcrowd too, well done. My hr is very high naturally, it was over 200 in the gym and the machine told me to stop. I went to gp and I was anaemia but they did an ecg and said they weren't concerned if there was no chest pain. I haven't measured it since C25k so I wonder if it's any lower?

@Castoreum well done, keep up the hard work.

@granadagirl don't be embarrassed, no one will be given you a second thought once you've passed. I am a wobbly red-faced mess chugging along but I couldn't care less now. The only person I'm trying to compete with is myself, I'm now too old to care what others think.

@Murmurur go for the 20. It's totally doable at this point, you will amaze yourself.

Wow, a long post. I must check in more regularly as this thread moves fast

choc27 · 11/06/2020 16:23

@RonBurgundyspanpipe that's interesting and makes me feel better thanks! I'm hoping to run again at the weekend. It will have been 2 weeks by then. Hopefully I can still manage the full 5k. Well done to all that have graduated this week!

GuyFawkesDay · 11/06/2020 18:04

Hello everyone, congratulations graduates and to anyone worried about longer runs just go super steady

My week 6 25min was 8mins a kilometre.

Just did my first week 9 run and did 4.35km in 30 mins so 7mins a kilometre average. Dunno how but as you get fitter you will get faster. Steady is the way to go. I still have a lot of speed to find but it's coming gradually.

Next step is a full 5km for me. I was not looking forward to today as I'm knackered from moving classrooms and it's blowing a hoolie here today but actually enjoyed that!

carrottopper · 11/06/2020 18:13

Feel like I've lost my oomph! Didn't enjoy the last run at all (w3 r1) and have been probably doing too much hiit. Will see how I feel at the weekend but not running tonight like I should be.

Well done everyone 👍🏻🏆

Sexnotgender · 11/06/2020 18:18

I've never been able to run long distance, even when I was a 100m sprinter for school I couldn't do the 800m for the life of me!

I’m the same, used to run competitively at school (a long time ago!) was TERRIBLE at anything over 200m though.

GuyFawkesDay · 11/06/2020 18:42

I HATED running after the age of 11. I was always a very average runner. I was ok sprinting but long distance I just hated. Consolidated by beach x-country running at school (hell on earth)

I did more at uni when I was rowing and then in my early 20s playing hockey but I never enjoyed it.

This time I'm doing it for me, and I think I'm more forgiving of myself. I don't have to meet a certain time to get in the squad. I don't need to go out at 6:30am and be the last person home and feel embarrassed. I just plod round the lovely countryside, look at the wildlife and contemplate things as I go.
