I cheated and really wanted to be doing 5k at week 9 so turned the app off and just kept running for week 7/8. My target will just be getting my time down now.

Definitely map out A route.. I like to split it into segments etc so I know what I've got left.

Alamindah · 06/06/2020 20:53

I did week 6 run 2 today and I felt ok, so carried on until 5K! I can't believe it! I have always been told I'm rubbish at sport, and it became a very good self fulfilling prophecy. At the grand old age of 51 I have shown that it can be different! I wasn't fast (36:32) but I'm shocked and pleased in equal amounts!

choc27 · 06/06/2020 21:11

@mama4321 good to hear from you! I'm still struggling to be honest. I haven't been able to run since last Sunday. I've had days where it's been feeling fine but then today we went for a little walk and now it really hurts again. And it makes my whole leg ache. I can't see it being better for at least another week and I'm so upset about that after getting 3 5ks under my belt. I'm not sure how much that will put me back. Really feeling shit about it to be honest.

ChanklyBore · 06/06/2020 22:51

So sorry to read about the injuries. I wish swift recoveries to you choc and twistyhair. Frustrating and painful.

Congratulations Ron! C25k graduate! What next? I think I’m leaning towards following the example of the previous grads, as far as I know anyway, by just trying to consolidate the 5k/30 minute runs for a while and seeing what happens then.

I am the same with trainers mama, I’ve worn the treads off and need something new but I’m trying to hold out for shops opening.

I used to run a different route every single time and have fun mapping them out. But now I have a reliable 5k route around the village which crosses fields and two parks (as well as lots of roads), I can throw a few variables in for a change but it ends down a nice big hill. Every time I’ve gone off on a different one for a long running section I’ve crashed and burned so I’m staying with it. I’m never going to finish a run at my front door, I live at the top of a 13.5% gradient hill. But, the walk up it is great for calf stretches on the way home!

Castoreum · 06/06/2020 23:25

Massive congratulations to both the graduates and the 5K runners. So impressive! I love hearing about everyone's triumphs!

@choc27 did you manage to get a strap yet? I really think this would help a lot. Happy to share what I have bought for my sub-standard ankles if it helps.

Sexnotgender · 07/06/2020 06:31

Congratulations Ron!!

Well done Alamindah, that’s a great time for 5k.

Hope all the injuries are healing.

chunkyrun · 07/06/2020 10:26

How's everyone coping with doms? I managed to get out in afternoon instead of morning and managed my run. Woke up today feeling like I've been ran over by a tractor. I use cold setting in shower on my legs. Stretch very tentatively as I'm hyper mobile.

choc27 · 07/06/2020 11:25

@Castoreum yes please that would be great. I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place. I guess it needs rest but I need to take the kids out for a walk most days.

Cherrypi · 07/06/2020 11:34

Woohoo finished week 6. It was good. Actually found 25mins easier than two 10mins. Think I went off too fast on the shorter runs. Two thirds through yay.

hellolilacs · 07/06/2020 12:18

Hi all
I'm conscious I'm very behind other people on this thread! But I have just completed W1R2.
I really really didn't want to go, had some wine last night and was feeling very lethargic today! But I did it, and dare I say this, it wasn't too terrible!

Thanks for the lovely posts of encouragement the other day! X

HGC2 · 07/06/2020 12:23

I did it! Completed my last run today and I am amazed I made it! The first week nearly killed me! Now just to take all the tips so I keep going! I’m on a treadmill as shielding so think I’ll work up to the 5k as I’m only at about 4.6k in 30 mins then take it from there!

Hedgehog26 · 07/06/2020 12:38

@hellolilacs I’m only on week 2 so you’re not the only newbie.

Proud of myself for going out with a bit of a hangover today 😊

JonHammIsMyJamm · 07/06/2020 13:34

@hellolilacs, I was very similar when I started on these threads. Everyone seemed to be way ahead of me, they seemed to be on the final weeks and I was puffing away at the start. Keep at it and you’ll be at the end before you know it !

Sexnotgender · 07/06/2020 13:42

@hellolilacs welcome!! I’m only just finished week one, we’re all at different stages Smile

Sexnotgender · 07/06/2020 13:43

All the finishers are giving me so much hope, thank you Flowers

TryingToBeBold · 07/06/2020 13:47

GRADUATION COMPLETE!!
W9R3 done.
40:06 today.

I'll be sticking around because I want to show those starting that you really can do It. I had so many people encouraging me all the way through that in my opinion the more the merrier.
This thread is so much more active than any other similar ones I've seem and I cannot wait to see your progress Smile

TryingToBeBold · 07/06/2020 13:51

(I mean I'll be sticking to this thread... something more meaningful about watching you all do so amazing and break down those mental walls)

NoTeaForMe · 07/06/2020 14:32

I’m meant to be going out on my first W8 run today. But I drank a bit too much wine last night and feel a bit queasy...will I be sick if I go? 😵

Castoreum · 07/06/2020 14:48

Well done, graduates!

@choc27 This is what I have for injured ankles: amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07ZS8QTZZ/]]

It is really good as you can have it tighter or looser according to how much support you feel you need. VERY supportive when nice and tight.

I also have a few of these: amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07X6G3XR8/]]

They are useful for when you are on the mend but still need something to keep your ankle stable.

Castoreum · 07/06/2020 14:48

Sorry, links went a bit strange!

YorkshireParentalPerson · 07/06/2020 15:01

I haven't started yet, I've had the app downloaded for a couple of weeks but am so nervous about starting. I have never run, am very very overweight and over 50, BUT I want to get fit and improve my breathing so much.
Just reading this thread has inspired me, so my plan is to run Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday mornings. My husband has already started 3 wee k s ago doing Mondays, Wednesday & Friday's but I don't want to go with him!!
I just have to get past my nerves and do it.

Castoreum · 07/06/2020 15:13

@YorkshireParentalPerson

I am over fifty too (51 to be exact) and also very unfit. I finished Week 3 yesterday and honestly it has been fine. It has been difficult in bits but hand on heart I can honestly say I am enjoying it. Just try it! You don't have to carry on if you really hate it. Give the first run a go and see what you think.

PrincessWatermelon · 07/06/2020 15:21

W3R2 done today. Am really enjoying it. Felt good for the first 3 mins. Had hoped to keep running after the second 3 mins, but was too out of puff so had to stop to walk (as advised). But managed another 2 min run after a bit of walking as I hadn't made it home yet.

People have mentioned the roller things for tired muscles. When is the best time to do it? straight after a run? Or after a days rest?

Also, I have a big phone that comes with me. Currently it's on my arm, but gets v hot. Does anyone use a running belt? If so, any recommendations please?

BookShop · 07/06/2020 15:50

@TryingToBeBold congratulations on your graduation. 😁
