Just done wk4 run 1. It was freezing cold and windy, I was cold until I started running then I soon warmed up. I'm not a beetroot which is a bonus.

TryingToBeBold · 06/06/2020 09:02

@NoTeaForMe so I've had a super quick read and I've gathered that it does hurt but is great for muscle recovery and is essentially a small sports massage.
I've seen that the textured ones hurt more so best to start off with the smooth ones and then work your way up to textured.

@stopthehop great for getting out on the cold mornings! Go grab a warm shower.. if I run in the cold and them dont shower I find my body temp is screwed for the rest of the day and I'll be freezing (unlike running in the sun)

IFancyANamechange · 06/06/2020 09:10

So glad I’ve found this thread! Completed W4 R3 this morning. So, so pleased with my progress so far.

I live by the beach, so getting out for an early run is just perfect.

Looking forward to starting week 5 on Monday!

Bagelsandbrie · 06/06/2020 09:18

I am currently on my 3rd attempt at this. I get to the end of week 2 and then just can’t keep going ... I either lose motivation or become unwell and then stop. I have multiple health conditions so this is really hard for me.

So I am having another go. Currently on Week 2 r1. Felt like I was going to die and had to stop running about 15 seconds each time before I was supposed to. Really annoying! But I’ll have another go. I plan to keep re doing the runs / weeks until I can do it comfortably before doing the next one.

Sexnotgender · 06/06/2020 09:55

W1R3 done. Wasn’t too challenging. Ran passed some cygnets in the park.

Does the awful beetroot face stop at any point😂

RonBurgundyspanpipe · 06/06/2020 10:08

@ChanklyBore that sounds like something my kids would do. I see what you mean now about running faster for the running segments and a slow jog for the walking bits rather than a return to walking. I like that idea.

@chunkyrun good choice, it's freezing here up north and the rain is horizontal at points. The heating has gone on.

@NoTeaForMe I got a foam roller though it's plastic. A friends wife recommended them, she's a keen runner and runs a women's running support group. She said to use it after every run. I've been using it for 3-4 runs and the stiffness is definitely easier the next day, hurts a bit when doing it but it is a textured one.

@TryingToBeBold fingers crossed for graduation. I was tempted with today but the weather is putting me off at the minute.

@Bagelsandbrie well done for trying again. It's always a good idea to repeat runs until they feel comfortable. Could you be running too fast? You should be able to talk comfortably through each run, sometimes it feels like I'm walking!!

Sunshineandflipflops · 06/06/2020 10:15

Well, I’ve just done week 9 run 1 with no falls! 2.78 miles (4.5k) in 30 mins. I was going to carry on to 5k but my lace had been u done for the last 2 minutes so I stopped at 30 min to tie it up and then didn’t fancy starting again so will aim for 5k next time.

Vagndidit · 06/06/2020 10:39

Well done to everyone still plugging along! I'm starting Week 7 tomorrow. I'm hoping this cool off in the weather lasts a bit longer as it was miserable running earlier in the week with the heat.

bigcatlittlecatcardboardbox · 06/06/2020 11:10

@TryingToBeBold I went with DH who is much faster than me, we did 10 minutes at 5.04 and it was just too fast. Then my headphones broke, it was too busy etc etc

@NoTeaForMe I've done ballet for years and have always used foam rollers, they hurt like hell but are so good for tight muscles. I also have a spiky ball thing for my feet.

Sidge · 06/06/2020 13:13

So I went for a run this morning, I didn’t do C25K but am a novice runner, started in February.

Managed 6.5km despite the wind! It was hard going and felt slow but my Strava breakdown showed I was actually pretty quick (for me).

@Sexnotgender I always have the beetroot face when running, I blame my faulty menopausal thermostat. Takes ages to go down even when I’m home and showered!

I look shocking when I run, I’ve just accepted it 😂

ChanklyBore · 06/06/2020 13:39

Went out in the wind and the rain and before breakfast for week 9 run 3 - the last one!

Made it 5km again but not under 30mins, sadly. Still, I’ve now run 5km three times this week (!!!!) and my times were 37.53, 36.30 and today’s was 34.10, so I am getting faster. I think my next aim is going to be getting it under the 30min. Which might take as long as the whole of c25k!

Thank you for the support and encouragement from this thread, it has been wonderful.

Sexnotgender · 06/06/2020 13:43

Well done @chanklybore 🎉🎉

Murmurur · 06/06/2020 14:00

Yes well done!

I would like to thank the person who said (ages ago, probably when I was just lurking) that the first 10 mins are hell but then you get into it. I have found that so true, and such a help in getting me out of the door and keeping me going when it feels impossible.

Castoreum · 06/06/2020 15:39

I am so impressed with the 5k runners (and more!) - that seems so far off!

W3R3 today for me. I went before breakfast. It was cold (do not like cold) and I am still struggling with the second three minute run (though I did complete it every time). But on the way back from the park, I ran the last couple of minutes just for the hell of it and wanting to arrive home actually running and it felt good. And then I got in a lovely warm bath and all felt right with the world temporarily.

I am starting to wonder, despite finding 3 minutes tough, if it will actually seem easier when I can give up wondering how long until I can stop, if that makes any kind of sense!

Sunshineandflipflops · 06/06/2020 15:45

Well done @ChanklyBore! I hope you stay on the thread to inspire others.

I also get beetroot face-have done ever since I started running about 10 years ago! I like to tell myself some people just get it worse then others and it’s nothing to do with fitness!

I can come home, shower, get dressed and still have to wait a while to put my makeup on while the beetroot goes down! Not so much of a problem at the moment though as who is wearing make up?!

Hedgehog26 · 06/06/2020 15:51

@Bagelsandbrie well done on getting back into it. Better to repeat weeks till you are happy than push and injure yourself or get disheartened. I’m starting week 2 on Monday so we are almost at the same point.

I finished week 1 on Friday. Did all 3 runs with the pram. My legs are a bit achy so having the weekend off then starting week 2 on Monday.

Anyone’s partners also doing c25k? My husband is but he’s almost finishing, I think he’s got about a week left. Looking forward to catching him up

Stopthehop · 06/06/2020 16:02

I usually have a beetroot face that lasts hours even after a cold shower, today in the cold and wind was the only time I didn't.

GuyFawkesDay · 06/06/2020 16:06

Yes I am ruddy of hue even without running. After a run I am definitely beetroot 😕

ChanklyBore · 06/06/2020 16:23

Thank you! Yes, I’ll stay here, I’m not showing my beetroot face on the other scary running threads.

Castoreum, it seems like a long way ahead but it’s really not. Week four to 5km is only a few weeks - you will be there before you blink!

RE the beetroot face, well there is no stopping it really but I have noticed that it comes on later in the run, isnt so beetroot and fades faster now. So yesterday when I only managed a single mile I was only mildly pink. Today I was red, the type of red that used to take an hour to fade but today was gone in 30 mins. I get my breath back a lot faster now too. It’s really interesting to see these changes!

TwistyHair · 06/06/2020 16:58

Well done chankly! I’m still resting my shin splints. Yawn

mama4321 · 06/06/2020 17:35

Well done everybody on all your running achievements. Lots of you seem to be very near the end now.
@choc27 how are you feeling now? Have you been able to get out running again yet? It must be very frustrating.
I am beginning to enjoy this whole running thing more and more in the couple of weeks since I finished C25K and have managed a few 5k runs - takes me about 40 minutes though.
However, My trusty old trainers that have seen me through C25K are definitely coming to the end of their life and the tread is pretty worn now. Can anybody recommend some running shoes that are not too expensive but are good for woodland tracks as well as road running.? Many thanks . Happy running all Smile

RonBurgundyspanpipe · 06/06/2020 19:30

I've only bloody done it, graduated on a deceptively hot evening run. @ChanklyBore made me do it. Only covered 4.1k and I felt every step but i did it. Very proud of myself which is most unlike me.

@ChanklyBore congratulations on completion.

Wow, what next?

TwistyHair · 06/06/2020 19:42

Well done @RonBurgundyspanpipe. I’m happy for you. And extremely envious of runners who aren’t injured

TryingToBeBold · 06/06/2020 19:59

@RonBurgundyspanpipe 5k is next!

RonBurgundyspanpipe · 06/06/2020 20:10

Not sure how I've made everything bold????

@TryingToBeBold you're right, going to consolidate the 30 minute runs till i feel comfortable with them and extend when i can. I think I might map out a 5k route so i can see how much further I need to go. I change my route each time so maybe some consistency from now on would be useful.
