@Castoreum thank you so much! I've just ordered the proper support one and bookmarked the other. These are probably really stupid questions, but should I wait until it doesn't hurt at all anymore before I run again?! Or will the support allow me to run as long as its not like really painful? Is the support to wear just for running or round the house too?

Sunshineandflipflops · 07/06/2020 17:35

Well done to everyone-whether you’re just starting it graduating. I started at week 3 as I ran anyway but had just been out with an injury for a couple of months so thought that would be a good place for me to start.

YesThisIsMe · 07/06/2020 19:31

Just done W6R2. DH has pointed out that that’s the last rest break we’ll get Sad

Castoreum · 07/06/2020 19:34

@choc27

I would wait until it stops hurting. But you can use the support for walks with the kids etc to avoid doing more damage. And once it doesn't hurt, you can also use the support for running at first if you think you need it. I would personally wear the support all day until the ankle is pain-free. Do take it off at night though, or if you are able to sit with your feet up eg watching television.

choc27 · 07/06/2020 21:43

Thanks for the advice! It should arrive tomorrow so hopefully it will do the trick. I am absolutely hating not running.

ChanklyBore · 07/06/2020 22:29

Tryingtobebold - congratulations on your graduation! Well done on the 5k! So glad you are sticking around. There are lots of people at all different stages on here but the longer it goes on the more graduates we are getting. Well done to HGC2 too!

Yesthisisme - you do get rest breaks, you just don’t walk during them. That’s the key! Just like when you are walking - you can walk super fast to get where you are going and get out of puff, so to have a bit of a rest you drop back to a slower walk - you don’t stop and sit down. When you are running and working hard and getting out of puff, you drop down to a slower, steady run to have a bit of a rest instead of dropping to a fast walk. Promise.

You can do it YorkshireParentalPerson! Weirdly, you might even like it. Posting here was the first step.

Castoreum · 07/06/2020 22:31

I know how frustrating it is! I did my ankle in between week one and week two. Luckily it was only mild so I was able to get back to it in a week but it was really really annoying.

You should find that most of the pain goes almost straight away once the ankle is strapped up (sadly it will come back when you take the strapping off but at least you don't have to be in pain all the time).

hellolilacs · 07/06/2020 22:41

@YorkshireParentalPerson I felt very similar to you before my first run. The best thing I could advise is to go somewhere quiet where there's not too many people around (so long as it's safe). The thought of street running terrifies me but knowing I could run in a field where I wouldn't see anyone (or nobody would witness me sweating profusely!) helped massively. Good luck!

hellolilacs · 07/06/2020 22:42

Thanks @hedgehog and @Sexnotgender Grin

NoTeaForMe · 07/06/2020 22:47

Sorry to hear you’re in pain choc I hope it eases soon. I have no advice from experience but I would assume you’re best to wait for it to heal before going out running again. Would be easy to aggravate it and make it worse.

I managed to get out today and did my w8r1. Ran about 3.6k in the 28mins so I’m still really slow. Was hoping for 4k by the end of the plan but don’t think that’s achievable in 30 mins. Not for me anyway!

mama4321 · 07/06/2020 23:30

@choc27 That's rubbish for you. I can really understand how frustrated you must feel after all the effort you have put in. I know nothing really, but I would have thought rest and elevation was the best thing. It seems to be inevitable that we will injure ourselves sometimes when running , and then so important to let things heal properly to stop ongoing and future problems. It's hard to be patient though. I hope it's not too long for you.

Well done to all the graduates. It's a fantastic feeling isn't it. And starters and those of you in the early weeks you'll be there before you know it!

carrottopper · 07/06/2020 23:48

Choc- I hope you recover soon. So frustrating.

I completed w2 r2 today. Loved it. Carried on to 5k again and finished at 38 minutes.

Is anyone losing weight with it? I'm finding I'm snacking less and firming up so hoping some will have dropped off

imamearcat · 08/06/2020 06:57

I did a sub 30 min 5k!💪💪💪💪 was too bad, I did an extra 1/2k in the middle as well because I paused my app! Kinda want to take it a bit easier now I've proved to myself I can do it.

Couch to 5k Run 1 done....the jogging continues!
TwistyHair · 08/06/2020 06:58

@choc27 I’m also still resting after injuring myself. I’m so frustrated. Just want to be our running

choc27 · 08/06/2020 07:50

Thanks everyone, it is frustrating, was just getting into my stride so to speak!
Well done graduates, it's a great feeling!

Stopthehop · 08/06/2020 08:58

Just done wk 4 run 2 I'm getting closer to the wk5 20 minute run I gave up at last time.

GuyFawkesDay · 08/06/2020 10:10

Blimey, well done @imamearcat that's a great pace!

I did 4.1km in 29 minutes today. Well slow compared with you but I am 20 seconds a kilometre faster than I was last week.

It's an improvement, and that's all I need right now.

Week 9 next week. Hopefully I'll keep improving how far I go in my 30 minutes and get closer to the elusive 5km.

imamearcat · 08/06/2020 10:49

Thanks @GuyFawkesDay. Sounds like you are making great progress.

I'm a bit unsure where to go from here. 🤷‍♀️ don't know if I should start a 10K one but any further than 5 kinda seems a lot of hard work!

imamearcat · 08/06/2020 10:50

Oh and I'm quite pleased with myself for doing it with my 'injury' from falling off the horse on Friday. 🙈🙈

FallenSkies · 08/06/2020 10:56

That's an amazing time @imamearcat - congratulations!

Mysterian · 08/06/2020 11:02

I did it!!!

I failed my first attempt at a 25 minute run the other day due to muscle issues but mostly a terrible headwind. Had another go today and felt so good after the 25 minutes that I carried on for 30. Grin Only just though. Fine after 25 minutes went to jelly legs and feeling sick after 30 minutes. Didn't realise the difference that extra 5 minutes would make.

No weight loss yet.

GuyFawkesDay · 08/06/2020 11:05

Ooh that looks awful!!

I've fallen off horses enough times to know how much the bruising hurts you must be hard as nails!!

High fives @imamearcat

imamearcat · 08/06/2020 11:39

Well done @Mysterian!

No weight loss here either. A bit depressing but I do feel a bit slimmer.

@GuyFawkesDay thanks I never used to know what people were on about when they said 'you will feel it tomorrow' well now I am old I do!

Mysterian · 08/06/2020 13:46

Thank you. I'm assuming much of the fat has been turned to muscle. I think there's less overhang now. I also assume my clothes weigh at least 3 stone whenever I get on the scales, but that's a different matter.

NoTeaForMe · 08/06/2020 14:39

I don’t seem to have lost any weight either. Not particular weighing myself though. My husband says he thinks I look slimmer but I don’t see it. I tried on a dress that gapes at the buttons and it still gapes so I can’t help but be disappointed to be honest.
