@choc27 have you strapped your ankle well? I have suffered from useless ankles all my life and the only thing that works for me is to strap the thing up and keep it elevated as much as possible. You can get some really good ankle supports online and it might be worth investing to support your ankle a bit when you get back to running.

Week 3 Run 2 today for me. I find the second three minute run an absolute killer but I did manage it! It was interesting running in a colder temperature; I was still boiling hot by the time I got home though!

imamearcat · 04/06/2020 11:01

Me too @Castoreum but I think it easier when it's cooler. I'm hoping I will reach a point where I don't get beetroot head!!

PenfoldsFive · 04/06/2020 11:08

It's nice to hear why people are doing this. I'm doing it because I am v nearly 50, am about 4/5 stones overweight, and I want to feel healthier. The alone time out in the countryside is also a lovely mental health bonus.

I too am aiming for 'not embarrassing' as my time. Grin

imamearcat · 04/06/2020 11:19

There are so many perks to it, I guess the only down side is that it's hard work!

TwistyHair · 04/06/2020 11:37

Haha @PenfoldsFive. Yes. Not embarrassing as my time. I’ll let you know once I’ve done a full 5k. Reckon it’ll be 35-40 mins. Which I’d feel happy with. If I could then work on getting to 30 mins then that’d be great. But I have hyper mobility so get a bit of discomfort. So don’t want to push too hard either and get injured

choc27 · 04/06/2020 11:39

@castoreum thank you for the tips. No I haven't strapped it, just been putting ice packs on it. I'll look into getting a support strap or something.

TryingToBeBold · 04/06/2020 12:02

@TwistyHair I made it 40:40

I was meant to go out today but has anyone just not done it and took an extra rest day?. My heart isn't in it, I'm tired and I just want some time out.

TwistyHair · 04/06/2020 12:42

That’s good @Trying. I’d be pleased with that. I have occasionally taken two rest days if my legs hurt. But not if my hearts not in it. If I’m thinking, shall I go out or not, I always decide that the answer will be yes. Regardless of whether I actually want to. Different if I’m having a day off for a physical reason like injury. But that’s because I’ll be tempted to use that excuse a lot more and then it’d just all gradually stop. But if you can take extra rest days and it not be like that, then take a day off!

TryingToBeBold · 04/06/2020 12:51

I'm pretty determined to go 3 times a week so I do know if I dont go out today I will have to tomorrow. Actually have to. So tomorrow it shall be.
Baby waking up in the night halted today's running plans Sad

ChanklyBore · 04/06/2020 13:31

I am going every other day but I have taken an extra rest day twice.

Castoreum · 04/06/2020 14:31

I'm hoping I will reach a point where I don't get beetroot head!!

Haha, yes, this is me too!

With the rest days, I have been doing what some other people have mentioned and doing three times a week so I get one extra rest day. I do Monday, Thursday and Sunday and the extra rest day on a Wednesday really helps.

TryingToBeBold · 04/06/2020 14:35

Yea I normally do Tues Thurs Sun so thurs-sun is 3 days off but this week itll have to be Tues Fri Sun.

Someone has just given me some advice and said even if you feel you cant go out and do 5k.. get out and do 1, or 1 mile and try and work on a quick time for that.

Sunshineandflipflops · 04/06/2020 14:40

I am considering going out to do my week 8 run 3 when I finish working (4pm). I did run 2 yesterday morning so 33 hours rest in between should be ok? Not like i'm running marathons back to back.

It's not raining today but is forecast to in the morning so thinking I might switch round...

FloatOn · 04/06/2020 14:54

Can I join, I completed W2R2 yesterday, I've been running on Mon/Wed/Fri and taking the weekend to relax and drink huge vats of wine!

I'm 37 and have never undertaken any form of exercise if I could avoid it, I had pneumonia last year and downloaded the app, but its taken me til last week to actually do something. I'm actually feeling pretty good, but jealous of you lot so far ahead..

Castoreum · 04/06/2020 15:01

@FloatOn

I am only the tiniest bit ahead of you. And we are definitely never knowingly exercising twins! I have had the app on my phone for months and done absolutely nothing until a few weeks ago.

Sunshineandflipflops · 04/06/2020 15:15

Now it looks like it's going to rain. I'm ok if I'm out and it starts raining as I have no choice but to carry on but actually setting out in the rain in another story!

This is why I go in the mornings usually. I don't have time to think about the weather or if I feel like going. I just get up and go!

Stopthehop · 04/06/2020 15:25

Just done wk3 run 3, I didn't get chance to go out this morning so went now. I went to the football fields and Dd and Dp came and watched me. Dd was going to run with me but gave up after a minute. I usually run on the road so it was a lot easier on the grass. Dp said I was going so slow I may as well walk!

FloatOn · 04/06/2020 15:56

@Castoreum glad to hear someone else to as much psyching up as me! Hopefully we can complete this together!

TryingToBeBold · 04/06/2020 16:22

@Sunshineandflipflops totally get that! I normally go in the morning and I think as soon as my usual window started closing.. my mind had also shut down for the day. I should have just gone first thing and not even thought about it.

Sunshineandflipflops · 04/06/2020 16:31

Well there’s good news and bad news. I went ...it didn’t rain...I completed 2.6 miles (4.2k) in 28 minutes which at 10.50 minute miles is my C25k PB. The bad news is that 20 minutes in I tripped over a massive tree root and fell on my face (and knees and boobs and hands) and have a bloody wound on my finger and grazed hands.

It was the only time a young couple were walking towards me too so I felt really stupid. They asked if I was ok while keeping a safe 2m away from me so I put on a brave face and started running again to get my PB 😂

Nursing my wounds and pride in a bath now.

Sunshineandflipflops · 04/06/2020 16:44

But yay!

Couch to 5k Run 1 done....the jogging continues!
Stopthehop · 04/06/2020 16:54

Well done Sunshine I hope you're not too sore.

NoTeaForMe · 04/06/2020 17:05

@Sunshineandflipflops hope you’re not too sore. Can I ask what tracker you use please? I’ve seen screenshots like that one before and just wondered which one it is? Thanks.

Sunshineandflipflops · 04/06/2020 17:14

@NoTeaForMe it’s from my Garmin watch/app (which I’ve had less than a week and have just scratched during my fall Sad)

GuyFawkesDay · 04/06/2020 17:15

Oooh ouch @Sunshineandflipflops hope you are ok!!!

I am going to try to just be a bit less cautious tomorrow. I'll try and my other route tomorrow and brave the steady uphill of the first half, and see how far I can go.
