@imamearcat, if you managed 5k in 32 mins , I wouldn’t be worried! Even if you eased up a bit to make it more comfortable you’d still have a very decent beginners time. If you keep the hammer down and pushing yourself the way you are, you’ll build your fitness and stamina much more quickly and be able to improve your time even further, if that’s what you want. Though if that pace was so uncomfortable as to put you off doing it regularly, I’d ease off and enjoy the run rather than thrash yourself every time you go out. It depends on what your goal is, tbh. I just want to be able to do the distance in a not embarrassing time. I don’t want to enter races or whatever. I suppose I’m more of a jogger than a runner. I run for ‘mindful’ purposes (the cardio benefits are a bonus) rather than any competitive reasons.
If you do want to improve your speed/times then I’d look at a specific programme meant for that, rather than just hammering yourself for a full 5k. Most programmes do fartlek/interval sprints training.
P.S. please tell me you’re 21 or something?! Make me feel less feeble about my own attempts
