Nice one mearcat ! Here’s mine. Bit slower but my knees still give me a bit of pain. So I’m trying to be cautious. Need to extend run by a few mins and it’ll be 5k. It was my first run after completing C25k.

I am also in no conceivable way a morning person. My husband will tell you that. But it’s the only time I can get out. And the birdsong at the moment is wonderful. I don’t take earphones or anything. Just listen to the birds and the woods.

imamearcat · 03/06/2020 09:52

Nice to have some peace and quiet isn't it!!

TwistyHair · 03/06/2020 10:01

It’s really nice. It is the only time of the day where I have to input. Kids, tv, phone or radio. So I kind of try to treat it like meditation and get through the discomfort of having no distractions. Which is almost as hard as the running. I keep thinking ‘shall I check my phone’ or something. But I don’t. Especially now I’m not using the C25k app anymore. It’s just me on my own

imamearcat · 03/06/2020 10:02

Sounds like you are really near to 5k @TwistyHair 💪💪

imamearcat · 03/06/2020 10:22

I reckon eventually you can probably just go into your own thoughts like you would walking? That's what I'm hoping anyway. I had some moments of that today where I wasn't really thinking about running.

I am really enjoying some time on my own although DH and kids are making me feel guilty about it!!! You'd think I'd completely abandoned them how they carry on. FFS I'm sure you can all cope without mum for half an hour at 6.30am when you're all just vegging / asleep anyway!😡

Sunshineandflipflops · 03/06/2020 10:28

I do usually run with headphones and listen to a podcast quietly. I don't live within walking/running distance of a wood or anything though so it just drowns out the sound of nearly road traffic.

I am also missing my commute to and from work (never thought I'd say that!) when I'd have 30 mins each way to myself, with my music/podcast on in the car so my running is kind of replacing that.

I love getting home after running for 30 mins and everyone else is still in bed.

imamearcat · 03/06/2020 10:47

I keep trying to sneak out but have not been successful yet - everyone seems to be up/grumpy when I get back because 'mummy wasn't here when I woke up'. Just deal with it guys!!

TwistyHair · 03/06/2020 11:03

Ugh annoying about them not being able to cope when you have 40 mins to yourself. I also had bits of the run where I wasn’t thinking about it. Just kind of plodding along looking at the sky and hoping it rains.

TwistyHair · 03/06/2020 11:04

I’d probably use headphones if I only ran on the roads. But half my run is through woods and along a river.

GuyFawkesDay · 03/06/2020 13:15

I am slow compared to you guys!! Just shy of 4km today. My pace is getting faster, so I'm getting better but I definitely won't be doing 5km in 30 minutes by the end of next week!!

I blame the hills on my run 😜

Was back by 7:15am. Was lovely out!

I think (if my maths is correct) we'd have to be running at just under 10 minute miles to do 5k in under 30 mins and I am not there yet. I could do it with stops, and regularly did but one of the main aims of doing this for me is to run 5k without stopping.
Hopefully speed will come later but if it doesn't then I'm ok with a 35 minute 5k.

Sunshineandflipflops · 03/06/2020 14:10

@GuyFawkesDay The hills! I have a hill in the last 8 mins of my route, which lasts about 4/5 mins and I am huffing and puffing at the end of it then the last 3 mins are slightly down hill, which I am very thankful for and allows me to (slightly) increase my pace at the end!

Before C25k though, I never made it up that hill without stopping so at least I'm now doing that, albeit slow!

JonHammIsMyJamm · 03/06/2020 14:15

Yes, 10km is just over 6 miles, so you’d need to be doing about 6mph/10kph to hit 5km in 30mins. That’s quite fast!

Murmurur · 03/06/2020 14:17

Eek, you are all incredibly fast compared to my plodding. If I ever manage 8 mins' jogging I shall be pleased, even if I'm going slower than my elderly neighbour's walking pace. (I wish that was an exaggeration but it's not!)

JonHammIsMyJamm · 03/06/2020 14:23

My speed is between 7.5-8kph, that’s under 5mph. I’m not fast.

I’ve just found this table which is quite useful as a quick reference to work out how long distances will take to cover at certain speeds.
runbundle.com/tools/pace-tables/kph

imamearcat · 03/06/2020 14:23

I get a bit mixed up with pace/speed, but the pace you'd need is 6mins per KM, or 10 km per hour. It is more of a fast jog, run speed I would say.

I did the last km in 5.25 mins but only because it's down hill! @GuyFawkesDay the hills are a killer I avoid at all costs!!

ChanklyBore · 03/06/2020 15:45

My app doesn’t tell me speed it tells me time per km, so average pace per km and then my fastest km.

My fastest km is 6.14 minutes so far. So I’d have to do five of them and I still wouldn’t get under 30 minutes. One day I will do that, but it’s not today! My fastest average is 5km in 7.26m/km, so 36 minutes to run 5km. I won’t be winning any prizes for speed!

Trying to time going out today in between the thunderstorms.

Sexnotgender · 03/06/2020 19:41

W1R2 done, I can confirm that running without terrible indigestion is much easier 😂

It went well except my new leggings were terrible and kept slipping down.

I upped the pace on my final 60 second run, it felt good! I didn’t sprint, didn’t want to do myself a mischief, but more running than jogging.

YesThisIsMe · 03/06/2020 19:48

For anyone who was wondering why the record breaking dry and sunny spell had so suddenly and unexpectedly come to a shuddering halt, I ordered my new running shorts last night.
Sorry.

TwistyHair · 03/06/2020 19:51

Haha yes. Although I’m actually glad for it for my garden’s sake. Saw a few people out today in running rain coats. Will have to get one for winter

ChanklyBore · 03/06/2020 20:00

Well done sexnotgender. Maybe you need some smaller leggings?

Week 9 run 2 for me and I just ignored Laura and ran till I got to my second ever 5k.
36 mins 30 secs this time so knocked 1 min 23 secs off my first ever which was only on Monday. I’m considering this a massive win as I have awful period pain today. Not sure what I’m going to do now with only one run to go!

JonHammIsMyJamm · 03/06/2020 20:33

Grin @YesThisIsMe. Well, me and my garden are glad of it.

@TwistyHair, I’ve got a running waterproof (a proper Omm Kamleika one, eye wateringly ££) but I hardly ever used it when I was properly running and definitely haven’t used it since I restarted c25k 9 wks ago. I’m probably too fat for it now?! I sweat like a bastard in it and would rather run in a wicking top and just get rained on. It’s supposedly ‘breathable’ but when all said and done, it’s a plastic anorak and so there’s a limit.

JonHammIsMyJamm · 03/06/2020 20:47

Wow, congratulations @ChanklyBore. Good on you, 1min 23 seconds is a HUGE amount to shave off your time in one go!! Hope your pains improve and you can enjoy your final run.

My next run is tomorrow and it’ll be my first non c25k run. It’ll also be my first ‘proper’ run in about 2.5yrs. I’m a bit nervous Blush. I know I can just re-play the last session of c25k if I want a guide or reassurance but I want to move on despite the feeling of trepidation.

Sexnotgender · 03/06/2020 21:22

Well done chanklybore!

I don’t think I need smaller leggings 😂 perhaps a smaller bottom.
