@YesThisIsMe

Have you looked at getting an arm band for your phone?

Got these. Baggy and with three pockets!

BookShop · 02/06/2020 17:17

@JonHammIsMyJamm yay! Well done. That’s amazing. I graduated already but the proper running thread scares me. Not sure why but I don’t want to jinx my running status. 😆

JonHammIsMyJamm · 02/06/2020 17:35

Thanks @BookShop. I know what you mean re the ‘proper’ thread. There are lots of long runs being posted on there but plenty of 5Kers too. It seems pretty friendly Smile

YesThisIsMe · 02/06/2020 17:40

Thanks Twisty, those look great.

TwistyHair · 02/06/2020 19:39

Yes maybe they’ll make me run faster... like the woman in the photos.

TryingToBeBold · 02/06/2020 19:52

@BookShop I totally get that! I won't lie.. I cant picture myself running more than 5k anytime soon.. I'll stick to this thread Grin

enterparentone · 02/06/2020 20:03

Can I join? I'm on W6R2 (doing that tomorrow!) It's been hard work as I'm very overweight, but so proud of myself coming this far!! I wasn't impressed at the change in Sarah's tone on Monday "this should be simple now" - er, still no!! What happened to nice and supportive "you might be getting tired now"?!
Where have bigger ladies bought running tops from please? The ones I ordered from Next are like crop tops! No one needs to see my belly hanging out in the Lycra like that! Shock
What are you doing on your rest days? I'd like to improve my strength but worried I'll end up with achey muscles for the next day's run!!

GuyFawkesDay · 02/06/2020 20:43

The more the merrier!! Welcome 😊

I get my running tops from Sainsbury's or Amazon. I now have 3 😁

Well done JonHamm, a graduate!

I’ve got week 9 run 2 and 3 to go, then what will I do? Maybe buy myself something for running? I might make it a point of honour to make it to the end of c25k without buying anything! Nothing to do with the pandemic and the ships being closed, no it was my own steely resolve to commit to running before spending a penny.

But still, it might help anyone lurking who feels like they can’t do c25k because their trainers are worn and shabby (mine are close to wearing through underneath now!!) or don’t have any running gear (old leggings, old t shirt, I’m classy).

But I’ve never, ever run before this. My previous personal best was probably flopping round the 800m at sports day with everyone laughing.

I walk on my rest days in the fields with the kids. Occasionally fit in a few squats as I’ve heard they help, or press ups (use the stairs!!!!get lower and lower down the better you get!! Revelation!!) because my arms feel left out.

Sunshineandflipflops · 02/06/2020 22:13

I walk every day and have been trying to do at least 10,000 steps a day so even on my non running days. I tried to do some strength exercises but it seems my body is falling apart in old age and I just get pain in my shoulder and/or knee with anything other than running.

Regarding running tops, mine are either decathlon or old race t-shirts. Any t-shirt will do though so just wear what you feel comfortable in. I'd rather spend more on decent trainers and running bras!

enterparentone · 02/06/2020 22:25

Thanks for the tips! We've been doing our daily exercise walking as a family which I hope will help. Great idea for th press ups on the stairs! My arms are awful so would be awesome to tone them up...

ChanklyBore · 02/06/2020 22:27

I haven’t got a running bra either (well I tell I lie, I have a shock absorber but I’m too fat for it) so I have been wearing little elastic crop tops

I can not wait for the shops to open.

superoz · 02/06/2020 22:34

Just done week 2 run 1, having to do it with the dc otherwise just don’t have the time.
Using my 13 year old running trainers which are still intact! I’ve not run properly for around 10 years!

NoTeaForMe · 02/06/2020 22:59

I’m going to try that technique if press ups on the stairs. I can’t do them at all!
My running tips are from sports direct. They’re loose vest tops in that shiny material. Really cheap and cooler in this hot weather.
I’m W7 R2 tomorrow so feel like the end is in sight. I’m debating on whether to set an alarm for the morning, but it’s meant to be cooler I think so maybe I can get away with not?
I’m going to try and see if I can do better than my 8.14min/km average pace last time. Short term aim is to get below 8mins. I feel like the slowest person in any thread!

GuyFawkesDay · 02/06/2020 23:04

I'm setting early alarm but I've got to be at my desk teaching online, and send my two into school by 9am 🙈

Actually hoping it rains. I quite like running in the rain.

@NoTeaForMe

I did my first 5k yesterday in 40:40 average pace was 8:07 so under 8 would be lovely for us both.
Slow and steady and not hurting yourself is key. Focus on hitting 5k and then we can improve on time.
My quickest 1k was 7mins 16 but that was back in the walk run days Grin

Ijustcalled · 03/06/2020 07:51

I did week 1 run 2 this morning. That warm up walk was pretty cold so I was glad to get running! Impressed with my willpower to be out the door by 7.40 so far - wonder if it will last!

Meant out by 6.40 not 7.40
Sunshineandflipflops · 03/06/2020 08:30

Well done @Ijustcalled. I was out at 7am and did week 8 run 2. Managed to run a little quicker than 2 days ago so pretty chuffed. I think the light rain helped! Average 6.53km pace and 4.1 km covered in 28 minutes.

FallenSkies · 03/06/2020 09:07

Morning everyone,

I did w8r2 today too. Felt ok so ran for a little longer to do 4.5k, which I was really chuffed with Smile. I don't think I will be able to run 5k by the end of next week, but I definitely feel like I'm getting there.

Very impressed by those of you who manage to get out so early. 8am seems to be the earliest I can manage

imamearcat · 03/06/2020 09:16

Did 25 mins none stop this morning (R3W6), felt bloody great! I really want to achieve 5k in 30 mins now. I was a bit slow at the beginning today but I reckon I can speed up a bit and hopefully manage the elusive 5k in 30 mins with a few more runs under my belt.

I have run a bit on and off over the years but never been able to pace myself and find it enjoyable.. I've not really stuck to the plan that much but this has really really helped me. Smile

imamearcat · 03/06/2020 09:17

These were my splits

imamearcat · 03/06/2020 09:45

Well done @FallenSkies 💪. I was up at 5.30 today with my kid but I need to set off for school run at 7.50 so need to be going early now. I can't believe I was back for 7am, I'm not normally a morning person normally.. feel like a new woman!
