Back on 30 day shred after years of phoning it in at the gym. Just stepped up to level 2. It’s so hard 😭😭

Jeepers I’d forgotten how hard level 2 is! I’m using 3kg and 5 kg weights.
I’m not keen on chloe Madely-when I did hers last year I ended up subbing some Jillian moves for variety but still sticking to the format.

ProfessorRadcliffeEmerson · 14/05/2020 09:36

TrumpeterWolf, respect! I used 2kg and 3 kg, I wouldn't go near any of those L2 moves with 5kg weights.

We did Lift and Shred L1D2 yesterday, and Killer Cardio L1 D2 today. They don't feel as difficult as 30DS, but I'm definitely feeling a bit achy, so it must be doing something.

Interesting about children basically doing HIIT all the time, drspouse. DD is a bouncy child, so that sounds intuitively right.

Yesbutno · 14/05/2020 12:01

So I've been doing Maggie Binkley and really enjoying! They're 15 mins but target a different area so I'll do 2 back to back or one and then a bit of yoga. She's really good, looks a bit like a younger Kate Middleton and does the workouts in her cute very shiny floored clean apartment. A few Jillian-isms but a bit kinder! There are lots of levels and you're supposed to do a different workout every day at the same level, repeating for 4 weeks and then move up, but I might move up early.

CalmConfident · 14/05/2020 12:37

I have 2kg weights, feeling a bit weedy now :) The only other option is DH 8kg ones which would clearly be madness !

CalmConfident · 14/05/2020 12:38

Which bits of L2 (And L1 for curiosity) do you switch to heavier weights for ?

ProfessorRadcliffeEmerson · 14/05/2020 15:17

I used the 3kg weights for the middle circuit (the rows and curls), and 2kg for the rest.

Trumpeterwolf · 14/05/2020 16:45

I use 5kg for the chest flies, dumbell rows and biceps and 3 for the rest.
Could only manag the 5s for the leg lifts in the abs bit on level 2 today! 3 for the rest but it was hard.
I tend to use the 5s more for some of her other workouts-especially when you only need one

GeraldTippett · 14/05/2020 19:12

Brilliant effort Trumpeter. I love the dumbell clean in L3 if you've got to that yet. Feels like a holiday! Before the bastard jumping lunges that is.

I have weights going from 1.5kg to 3kg and have used 3kg for 6W6P (apart from the diagonal get ups where I use 2kg). I have been hoping to pick up some 4kg and 5kg weights but there is nothing anywhere.

CalmConfident · 14/05/2020 23:00

L2 D4 done ✅

Thanks for the weights info...I had a decathlon voucher for my lockdown birthday so will invest in some heavier ones once they come back into stock

Calledyoulastnightfromglasgow · 15/05/2020 19:30

RI30, level one done. Felt a little easier this week. Enjoyed it l:

ProfessorRadcliffeEmerson · 15/05/2020 22:40

Lift & Shred L1 D3 done today. Mainly with 5 kg weights. I ache!

Calledyoulastnightfromglasgow · 16/05/2020 06:09

Lift and shred- is that two?! Or a new DVD I don’t know of?!

Todayisanewday75 · 16/05/2020 08:05

Couldn’t face L2D10 yesterday but am going to force myself to do it today. I think taking a week off when I hurt my back made me lose momentum

sparklesandmoresparkles · 16/05/2020 08:27

I’ve been doing L1 for the past 2 weeks but only on the weekend. I have really weedy weights of 0.5kg to 1.5kg and even they really hurt! I’m doing a mix of the 1.5kg for the easier exercises, but still on the 1kg for round 1 and the lunges in round 2. But even so, my arms are getting to be really bulky /muscly so I don’t think I’d up the weights even if I could! I’m still not massively confident enough to move up to L2 yet. It’s so long since I’ve done it I can’t remember it Grin So I’m going to do another week before moving up. It’ll be the 9 week workout I think Blush

My DSis is doing a workout at 10 this morning on Zoom so I’m going to give that a go. She’s a CrossFit trainer though so I’m dreading it!!!

ProfessorRadcliffeEmerson · 16/05/2020 09:11

Calledyoulastnightfromglasgow, Lift & Shred is a weights DVD - I think it’s fairly new. The idea is simple moves with heavy weights.

CalmConfident · 16/05/2020 15:25

L2 D5 done ✅

Proud I powered on after my run to do the shred once I was home. I knew it would not happen later if I changed out my exercise gear!

GeraldTippett · 17/05/2020 09:25

sparkles how did your zoom session go? Our internet is so glitchy that I often freeze on zoom calls and I can just imagine getting frozen in some horribly unflattering pose with a grimace on my face if I did an exercise session! And lucky you being able to bulk up your arms. I use mainly 3kg at the moment (on 6W6P so not very challenging on the arms) and they are still very 'dinner lady'.

I had a rest day yesterday but am going to do L2D13 today on 6W6P. This is my final 3 day circuit to finish the programme and I will be so happy to see the back of L2. I can imagine going back to L1 from time to time in the future but will have no find memories of L2 I'm sure!

Will start my BFBM/NMTZ combo probably on Friday so I get a 2 day break this week. Only because my usual rest day would be Wednesday but I can't exercise on Thursday due to a 3 hour zoom meeting at the time I normally exercise (lunchtime)and because of the meeting I'll then have to facilitate home school later in the day. And I like to start a new dvd where I'm unfamiliar with the moves on a day I don't work so I can properly concentrate and spend some time on it. Don't tell Jillian!

sparklesandmoresparkles · 17/05/2020 20:09

It was great thanks Gerald! I’m really aching today, but in a good way. My DD (8) smashed it, and my DSon (10) wussed it Grin We’ll be back to do it again next weekend! Only trouble is, now I don’t think I’ve been pushing myself enough doing the shred Blush I’m in a quandary now as to whether to brave L2 tomorrow or stick with another week to really master L1....

I don’t like my bulky arms really - I got told I had really big arms for a girl when I was younger and it’s stuck with me, so I’m a bit paranoid about them now. I’ve been doing adult gymnastics recently though (well, before lockdown), so I think I’ll be stuck with big arms if I want to be any good!

I’ve had a day off today, but will do a yoga session before bed. Then back to the pain on the morning Grin

I’m thinking a bit like you, of mixing up the levels, once I’ve gone all the way through it. I’ve only got one JM dvd, but I’ve quite a few other exercise dvds I can do, including a few Davina ones. But I might invest in some more HIIT type ones, as I don’t really have much time before the kids come in and cause chaos.

Sounds like a good plan to have an extra rest day. Who puts a 3 hour zoom meeting at lunchtime?! Don’t they know people have exercise to do? Grin

sparklesandmoresparkles · 18/05/2020 07:52

Well I went with L2. And realised I don’t even remember it! So I clearly haven’t done as much of it as I thought Grin Was totally rubbish on my 1kg weights and Anita version but I did it. And I’m even more sore this morning from Saturday so even the arm crosses hurt.

Hope everyone else gets on well today!

ProfessorRadcliffeEmerson · 18/05/2020 09:41

Killer Cardio L1 D3 done here. DD was whinging for England at the beginning but we persevered!

Todayisanewday75 · 18/05/2020 11:43

L3D1 today, not sure how I’ll feel next week but much preferred it to level 2. My knees weren’t feeling great so I did Anita’s lunges but with weights for added resistance and did skaters instead of the rockstars.

I’ve started each level with 2kg weights and then gone heavier depending on the exercise. So mostly a mix of 2s, 3s and 4s but 6kg on the chest flies.

GeraldTippett · 18/05/2020 19:35

Professor how are you finding Killer Cardio? I don't have that one but will be starting Banish Fat Boost Metabolism this week (all cardio) to try and shed some fat. Just wondered how it compared (but I need to stop buying JM DVDs now and start actually doing the ones I have).

It's my last day of 6W6P tomorrow, level 2 day 15. I'm so ready to finish it. Then will take my progress pics on Thursday or Friday to see what difference my blood, sweat and tears have made to my core. I noticed a real difference after 3 weeks at L1 so hoping to see some changes after this last 3 weeks too

CalmConfident · 18/05/2020 23:37

L2 D6 done - albeit not very enthusiastically ✅

evilharpy · 19/05/2020 00:09

Hello, just stumbled across this thread funny enough on the day that I dug out my first Jillian DVD in years. I did level 1 of Shred It With Weights which is her kettlebell workout - anyone a fan? I've had it since it was released and have only ever done level 1 a couple of times.

Horrified at how flabby my arms have got since lockdown.

OublietteBravo · 19/05/2020 07:06

I’m currently working my way through Ri30. I’m on level 4 (day 5). I think this might be the first time I’ve been fit enough to do all the levels of Ri30 properly.
