Back on 30 day shred after years of phoning it in at the gym. Just stepped up to level 2. It’s so hard 😭😭

I’m doing 30 days of yoga with the lovely Adrienne at the moment , but I need something else so I’m also starting back on the Shred tomorrow morning after an ...um...Ooh...5 year break?! 😆

Can’t wait to see Jillian, Natalie and Anita again!

SummerSazz · 19/04/2020 16:30

'If you think you're going to die, follow Anita.....' I always wondered if she's a paramedic in her spare time Grin

HelloTerrance · 19/04/2020 16:40

In my head I read these in Jillian voice. Those words are all seared onto my brain.

mistermagpie · 19/04/2020 19:43

Oh I love Jillian, it's all coming back to me now - the bit where she tells you to imagine going 'bathing suit shopping' is what got me in shape for my wedding!

I've been doing Popsugar workouts on YouTube lately and some of them have that old school Jillian vibe. I love a home workout.

Calledyoulastnightfromglasgow · 20/04/2020 20:38

I just did Ripped in 30 level one. I reckon I am pretty fit- I do kettlebells, cycle, yoga -I’m active.

It really pushed me. I still think she is the original and best home trainer

Back in the day, there was a mumsnet thread just for those of us doing Jillian Michaels workouts

iorderedyouapancake · 20/04/2020 21:29

Does anyone else always notice the bits where Natalie suddenly switches to the easy option when she thinks the camera’s not on her? Grin

ShleeAnKree · 20/04/2020 21:32

"I'm hopin yuh know me"

"That's beer, leavin your body"

mistermagpie · 20/04/2020 21:52

'Beer' leaving the body! Grin

I've just been nosying on her instagram, Jillian still looks amazing, no sign of that 'pooch you get and you don't dig' (I always liked that one)!

ShleeAnKree · 20/04/2020 22:10

"This is not your mother's workout"

I have to get a new lap top with a dvd player. I used to be addicted to JM.

HelloTerrance · 20/04/2020 22:27

Is it Beer?!?! I always thought she said fear Grin

That was my favourite bit about the little pooch. Oh to have her stomach.

mistermagpie · 20/04/2020 22:30

No it is fear, I assumed the pp was joking!

HelloTerrance · 20/04/2020 22:38

That went overt head 😂🙈 I thought I had been thinking it wrong all these years!

ShleeAnKree · 20/04/2020 22:46

Oh really? I could have sworn it was ''that's beer, leaving the body'' and to be honest that would be more appropriate in my case!

HelloTerrance · 20/04/2020 22:48

Either way it takes my tears with it!

Batfinklestein · 20/04/2020 22:51

@StraightAndNarrow I’m also just finishing 30 days of yoga with Adriene and was thinking of digging out Jillian, Anita & Natalie. Great minds!
I do love Jillian. I’ve occasionally been doing No Trouble Zones which is pretty good.

It’s interesting what a few of you have said about wearing trainers, as I’ve always done these at home barefoot, not realising it can be hard on your knees. One of my knees is a bit edgy due to hyper mobility so I’m going to try wearing trainers.

screamer1 · 20/04/2020 22:57

Jillian is the absolute worst. She is so annoying. Still doing it though. Level 3 is hard!

"Imagine you're essentially a greaser" wtf are you on about Jillian?

HelloTerrance · 20/04/2020 23:15

I love how annoying she is, I don't think I could work out without being told not to phone it in.

If your gonna fight for your limitations, you get you keep them.

mistermagpie · 20/04/2020 23:31

The greaser, I'd forgotten that one!

I just bought a pair of trainers specifically for doing home workouts after doing them barefoot for years. I'm a runner but my running trainers are always filthy so I don't want to jump around my living room in them! I must say I feel much more stable in them and felt like I had better 'form' than before.

Kangourou · 21/04/2020 06:38

'These are your last two minutes of cardio: I WANT YOU TO FEEL LIKE YOU'RE GOING TO DIE' Grin
I tried ripped in 30 the last time I finished the shred. I found it too hard on my knee (I've had ACL and cartilage surgery and it's still not great) and was quite relieved to give up because she is so much more annoying in it! It comes across as put on/exaggerated whereas in shred it feels more natural. Plus in ripped they have the matchy outfits!

ShleeAnKree · 21/04/2020 07:56

Oh i used to love that bit. "I want you to feel like you are going to die"

IDefinitelyHaveFriends · 21/04/2020 08:06

The health warning at the front says “stop if you’re feeling pain” and I always wondered how that matched up with “I want you to feel like you’re going to die”.

I’m currently doing Beginner Shred with my teen DD, which is in fact “your mother’s workout”, lower in cardio and much easier on my poor old knees, but eventually I do want to go back up to the real thing.

HermioneWeasley · 21/04/2020 08:11

Just finished third day of level 2 (I’m not doing it every day) and I’m improving. I still can’t do plank jacks though

thethoughtfox · 21/04/2020 08:26

I'm doing this for the first time. What weight are the weights meant to be? I'm using two tins of beans and I know they are not heavy enough.

thethoughtfox · 21/04/2020 08:30

Is there a diet plan that is supposed to go with it? I have a lot of weight to lose and the lockdown wine isn't helping...

IDefinitelyHaveFriends · 21/04/2020 08:32

I use 1 kilo for the really tricky moves and 1.5 kilos for the easier ones. Ive got a set of 3 kilos under my bed for when I get a bit fitter.A tin of beans is 0.5 kilos so yes, a bit light. Hand weights are quite hard to come by at the moment.
