I did my first 'run' today. Think I'm going to need help to go all the way to week 9 but determined to do it before I hit the big 50. Anyone else started this week? Fancy a support thread? Couldn't see an active recent one.

Please can I join! Total newbie, have never run before. I did W1R1 today too, doing next one on Tuesday! 🤞🏼

ChanklyBore · 12/04/2020 22:56

Well done to everyone hitting milestones, first run, first, fourth, ninth week, new bra, whatever milestone you are celebrating, hurrah.

I’m due to start week two tomorrow, but feeling suddenly unwell today. Early night and see what occurs.

Bloody loved my “runs” this week though, and kept pushing it way past the times. I’m looking forward to my own milestone when I take the “” off my “runs” eh.

Onwards and upwards, all.

MintToBee · 13/04/2020 08:49

My knee feels slightly better today. I did some clamshell exercises yesterday. Hopefully the knee brace will come tomorrow. I never thought I'd say I'd miss running 😂🏃‍♀️

Spanielsanddaughters · 13/04/2020 12:18

Ended up being a bit slower today.
I’m blaming the cold wind (not the excess of wine last night Blush )

So today was 35mins and 4.6k. I’m still taking that as a win!

Greenmum2019 · 13/04/2020 12:38

@thisisreallyfunny
I will also be doing my second run on Tuesday!

dancemom · 13/04/2020 14:15

Week 7 Run 1 done, went pretty well 🙌🏼

happytobemrsg · 13/04/2020 14:44

I hurt my foot doing a different workout on Saturday so I took yesterday off. As I hadn’t run since Friday, I decided to go back and do W3R3 again. Thankfully my foot was fine. Will be back on W4 R2 on Wednesday.

happytobemrsg · 13/04/2020 15:03

Doing W3 R3 again was hard/tough but nowhere near as bad as W4R1 on Friday. I’m think I did the right thing repeating a week because of my foot but I also feel like I haven’t achieved anything 🤷‍♀️

I listened to Audible for the first time today & I really enjoyed listening to it while running.

RonBurgundyspanpipe · 13/04/2020 17:49

Can I join? Just completed week 2 run 3. Feeling great but want to track my distance, do i need an app running alongside the c25k app? Going so slowly I might as well be walking, bright red when I got in today today too.

ChanklyBore · 13/04/2020 17:58

I use a Fitbit app alongside the c25k app.

Or you can lay out routes using GB.mapometer.com

That’s a fun site as you can mess around with routes and create specific ones for different distances, and you can look at elevation and gradient too. I use it for my long distance walking but it’s just as good at sitting and playing around with local routes to get them to measure 3,4,5k. Then you know where you are going and how far it is, so you don’t need to run any extra apps (tracking, c25k and music or audio apps might be a little challenging to juggle, I don’t listen to anything when I’m out)

ChanklyBore · 13/04/2020 18:01

My last week 1 “run” was 3.63k in 30 minutes so I wouldn’t worry about pace yet, I’ve got a LONG way to go to get that up to 5k!

Gotanewusernamenow · 13/04/2020 18:07

Oh, I wish I could carry on running.
I only started a few weeks ago and had to stop last week as my knees are quite sore.
Does anyone know what this could be?

HappyLemonSadLemon · 13/04/2020 18:25

HI everyone, can I join in pls? I have been doing C25K on and off for a while now and I never seem to get beyond week 3 or 4, either because of injury or lack of stamina / getting over-faced by the week 5 runs.

I've just completed week 3 today by accident! I went out with the dog to do W3R2 and thought it was warmer than it was and intended to continue walking for 30 minutes after the run but I got too cold so I just thought I'd have a go at doing W3R3 to keep warm. Managed it fine, so I think I'll move onto week 4 on Wednesday.

I really hope that I manage to get through it all. I did once before (10 years ago) and the MN thread at the time was a huge support.

There are some really good tips on this thread - thank you for those. I think the key one is to not be too hard on ourselves if we find a run hard.

RonBurgundyspanpipe · 13/04/2020 18:27

Thanks Chankly, I'll have a look at that website. Think it will be good when I get further through. Right now I'm just wondering how far I'm getting.

Runningonempty84 · 13/04/2020 18:27

I wouldn't be messing around with Fitbit or mapometer - Strava is much more user-friendly IME. You can run it on your phone, but works better if you get a running watch (recommend Garmin) and sync it from there Smile

CeibaTree · 13/04/2020 18:31

I listened to Audible for the first time today & I really enjoyed listening to it while running.
This is my 3rd attempt at C25K (the other two were scuppered by pregnancies), and I am finding it so much easier this time and the only difference is I'm listening to audio books rather than music :)

TheABC · 13/04/2020 18:35

Congratulations to everyone who has started or continued! 🎉

I am on W4 R11 and just got to the point of running through the pauses as it's frankly easier to keep going than to slow down. Thank you for the Strava tip: I will try it out for the next run.

resipsa · 13/04/2020 22:25

Hi everyone. Lots of new joiners. Great 😁. I did W6R1 today. Didn't love it but think that was the cold wind at 6.30am. It was a bit miserable to run against. Hoping it'll be warmer come Weds for R2.
For anyone who has completed the initial programme, is there a similar and good follow on one? I like the idea of someone telling me what to do and when. Left to my own devices, I might just stop and walk too early...

Spanielsanddaughters · 14/04/2020 09:03

Well done at @resipsa. Yes the cold wind was a bit bracing... took me by surprise.

Also interested in a follow on. Although I might just keep using the last run on the app.

JonHammIsMyJamm · 14/04/2020 10:19

Hi all Smile. I started c25k on Sunday. I’ve just done w1r2 (3.03km), I’ve got a treadmill so I’m doing it on that with a 2% incline (which is what is suggested to replicate road running as closely as possible).

I’m using my treadmill because I’ve got a dog so my outside exercise slot is allotted to him.

@resispa, there are loads of continuation programmes. There are c210k, half marathon and full marathon programmes. Or if you want to stick at 5k there are apps to improve your 5k speed through intervals (fartleks). I used to run but have had a long break, hence the treadmill.

JonHammIsMyJamm · 14/04/2020 10:19

Sorry, @resipsa

JonHammIsMyJamm · 14/04/2020 10:21

If you want to improve your 5k speed but haven’t got another app, you can use the week 1 runs as sprint intervals.

resipsa · 14/04/2020 11:12

@Spanielsanddaughters
I hadn't thought of reusing the last one. It's a good idea! Will also check out the other ones mentioned.
Thanks @JonHammIsMyJamm

resipsa · 14/04/2020 11:12

But the idea of a sprint made me laugh 😂

JonHammIsMyJamm · 14/04/2020 11:25

Well, you know, your version of a sprint Wink
