I did my first 'run' today. Think I'm going to need help to go all the way to week 9 but determined to do it before I hit the big 50. Anyone else started this week? Fancy a support thread? Couldn't see an active recent one.

Hi everyone. Keep on going! I'm onto W5R3 tomorrow so if I make 20 mins, it'll be the dreaded W6 from Monday. Keep the faith and keep sharing it for me 😁

20 mins done. Still standing 😁. Good luck to everyone running today!

Thanks tootles.

I stopped running a few years ago after hurting my knee so am going steady this time and making sure I stretch before and after each session. Yoga with Adriene on YouTube has really good (and short!) pre and post run workouts so am doing those too now.

W5R2 I'm coming for you!

MintToBee · 11/04/2020 10:17

Thanks @ChanklyBore. I've ordered a knee brace to help speed up the healing. I'm missing it. Now theres a sentence I never thought I'd say Grin

BlahBlahLand · 11/04/2020 10:35

@Tootles, thank you for the explanation, i focused on your advice this morning. W4r2. The last 5 min run felt so long, I slowed down and managed it but not sure I could do any longer. I might repeat week 4 before moving up.

Spanielsanddaughters · 11/04/2020 10:46

35minutes and 4.8k done this morning. Woohoo.

I echo the advice being given about making sure you’re not going too fast, was a very helpful tip when I started!

Tootles2 · 11/04/2020 12:27

@resipsa Whoo hooo, well done ...that first 20 min run is the scariest I think, you just have to focus in all the great running you’ve done so far.

@Mumista @MintToBee sorry to hear about the knee injuries, I’ve had all sorts over the past few years. Do what you can and continue with getting a good warm up, stretching after and cross training (Yoga, weights etc) RICE - rest, ice, compression, elevation is really the key.

@CeibaTree - my pleasure - glad to be able to help

@BlahBlahLand if you want to repeat then go for it, but just remember week 1 probably felt like a long time - your body soon gets used to it 😀 The heat will make things a but harder though so slow down if you need to - just don’t stop !

resipsa · 11/04/2020 13:03

@Tootles2
It's definitely about the head! I ran on for 2 mins just to prove to MJ that I could 😂

Has anyone got/used/tried/rejected a Flipbelt for keeping your phone, keys etc safe? What do/did you think of it?

OP posts:
Runningonempty84 · 11/04/2020 16:39

Most people swear by Flipbelts, so I bought one. However, I hated mine and gave it to DH. It was too big and rode up, so swung around under my boobs, bashing me with gels.

Because I'm an idiot, the first time I wore it was during a marathon too. That wasn't the time to discover how annoying it was!

I think Flipbelts might suit people who are more up-and-down (like DH) or maybe people who haven't got such a big difference size between their waist and hips. Mine would never stay put as my waist is a lot smaller than my hips IYSWIM.

I know others will be along to correct me, as most people swear by them Grin

Aurignacian · 11/04/2020 17:42

W3R2 completed today. I’m struggling with the 3 minute runs tbh :(

resipsa · 11/04/2020 18:22

@Runningonempty84
Aah, that's me - waist about 13/14 inches smaller than hips! Back to the drawing board then 😬

My cockiness was misplaced and wk4 was too tough, so back to wk3 - managed run 1 ok in the heat yesterday but OMG with my big breastfeeding boobs my sports bra rubbed on my collarbones so much I was bleeding on one side. Does anyone have any recommendations for big boob sports bras? It would feel such a shame to have to stop because of that...

Runningonempty84 · 11/04/2020 20:11

Either the Freya Active or the Panache sports bra are the best for big boobs IME, @sulkysukey. And I tried lots!! I trained for and ran half marathons while bf, with 34H boobs, with both of those bras and loved them.

I found the Shock Absorbers weren't supportive enough for distance running at that cup size - and the Shock Absorber Run doesn't go that big anyway- while the Enell, which lots of people recommended, chafed terribly.

Tootles2 · 11/04/2020 20:12

@Aurignacian I’d suggest next run you start off..then consciously slow down a gear. It may feel ridiculously slow , but first of all you need to build stamina, the speed will come naturally as you get fitter. Try to think about breathing out as well as in, often new runners are start to gasp and pant - ideally you should be able to talk in short sentences. You're probably trying too hard.

@sulkysukey ouch ! You need a high impact bra. Popular ones are Berlei shock absorber, Freya, Fantasie, or I’ve got some great M&S ones.

dancemom · 11/04/2020 20:15

Week 6 Run 3 done today, wasn't as bad as I anticipated, I think the one continuous is better than stop and start.

Glad it's rest day tomorrow though!

sulkysukey · 11/04/2020 20:31

Thank you @Tootles2 and @Runningonempty84 - Freya Active ordered! 🤞

lpchill · 11/04/2020 21:10

Can I join? I've been following since I started on the 7th just finished my w1 r3 and improved on each run! I'm really surprised I managed it- really really bad knees even doctors can't work out and always hated distance running at school. I get shin splints but it helped today I ran in trainers instead of walking shoes. Any advice when the best time to run is? I've been running at 6pm ish and today 8:30pm but constantly worried I'm going to need the loo. Would early morning be better?

ChanklyBore · 11/04/2020 21:50

Excellent runs. 35 mins to do 4.8km is great!

I did a run today and I was happy with my time, still on the week one timings but did 3.6km in 30 mins, which is up on my previous. Feeling good and like I don’t want to stop running when she tells me, which in only a week I’m quite astonished with, to be honest!

Boobs - I’m only wearing a cheap primark bralette for running because I’m too fat for my 32dd shock absorber at the minute ...

Maybe I’m not going fast enough for it to matter.

lpchill · 12/04/2020 02:56

Said I done well but now having to stop. The running is setting of my nerve damage from C-section over 4 years ago and I'm in agony when I had just got it under control. Will switch to using the podcast for cycling. Massive shame as I was enjoying it and felt good about it.

Spanielsanddaughters · 12/04/2020 08:44

Yes when I first started was definitely going too fast. I think you think “run” but instead “jog” is what you need to tell yourself. Really deep breathing, I was almost over exaggerating it for a while (easier for me as I run in a forest with no one around!)

I’m going to do my final run of the programme tomorrow, if I go a bit further before I turn around I won’t hit the steep hill at the end so 5k in 35mins should be it!
Then the PLAN is going at least three times a week and just start upping my pace where I feel ready!

Personally I prefer running in the morning (pre 8am)

Mumista · 12/04/2020 15:46

W5 R3 done - and I loved it!

Tomorrow will be a rest day and then it's back to stop-starts with W6.

Thanks for the running bra tips - I'm in an old one and it's too tight. I'm going to treat myself to a new one when I've completed the programme!

Goostacean · 12/04/2020 18:10

Just finished W1 R3. Didn’t get “into it” today, my music wasn’t quite right somehow and there were too many people about and it was a bit “meh”. Got through it though and am excited to move onto the next week!

Tdaadfb100 · 12/04/2020 18:37

I start week 4 tmr! My husband (who is much more of a runner than me) is doing it with me. I’m quite enjoying it. And it allows me to sit on the sofa drinking Cava with a bit less guilt! 😂🥂🍾

Greenmum2019 · 12/04/2020 19:12

Hello..... Can I join you please.... Only on My very first run this evening!!!
Spurred by you lovely lot on my thread about being scared.

I was so nervous, I think I'm not trusting of my body. It's fat and heavy and feels slow and clumsy 😩
