I did my first 'run' today. Think I'm going to need help to go all the way to week 9 but determined to do it before I hit the big 50. Anyone else started this week? Fancy a support thread? Couldn't see an active recent one.

@Addler I'm using a trampette- much easier on the joints. Maybe you could try that?

Mumista · 04/04/2020 12:04

W3R3 done - W4 I'm coming for you!

I did weeks 1 and 2 without a day break between runs, but W3 has been more spaced out - busy with work and then it rained. Will start Week 4 tomorrow and see how it goes in terms of breaks.

How do you do it on the trampette? This could be useful if we get further restrictions as I can boot the kids off the trampoline.

Aurignacian · 04/04/2020 12:52

Hello, can I join in?

I’m did W2 run 1 yesterday. I’m doing it with my teenage son who is a couple of runs ahead of me. I’m old (50’s) and unfit but to my utter surprise I’m really enjoying it. It’s a great thing to do during this horrible stressful time. Actually wish it was a run day today.

RollingDog · 04/04/2020 13:20

I'm starting week 3 tomorrow. Determined to get through it. I always come a cropper at week 5.

picklemewalnuts · 04/04/2020 14:03

@mumista, I make a walking motion on the trampette, then take a wide stance either bounce or hop from foot to foot for the run.

It's really hard on the calves, so I halfway through I tended to get off and walk on the spot for the walks. But I'm right at the start, so may be able to manage the whole on the trampette next time.

It's harder in some ways.

happytobemrsg · 04/04/2020 14:45

I’m the same @Aurignacian. I hate exercising but I’m really enjoying this!

50s is not old (guess what big birthday I have to come in September Wink). I agree about the rest, though. When you're doing it, getting to the end is all you think about! And I go early so enjoy the peace (and not having to dodge other people).

Week 2 day 2 complete. I actually carried it on and ended up doing 4.3k all in. 🏃‍♀️👟

Spanielsanddaughters · 04/04/2020 19:49

Completed week 5 today yay.
Set out unsure if I’d manage as was a bit over zealous doing squat jumps on Thursday and still had rather sore legs!
Super pleased managed to complete and it felt fine!
Start week 6 on Monday! Eek.

CeibaTree · 04/04/2020 20:33

I did week 2 run 1 today. I didn't hate it as much as I thought I was going to and I've discovered listening to an audio book rather than music helps me to not focus on any discomfort :)

StrugglingThrough2 · 04/04/2020 20:38

W5R1 completed today, I really ache now. Pleased with myself Grin

MrsTerryPratchett · 05/04/2020 00:32

have been having a lot of problems with my knee, it can be very sore when bent/kneeling/up and down stairs etc. Do you think running will negatively affect it?

Hello my lovelies. I was thinking about you running today. I thought I'd drop back and say about pain you run through and pain you don't run through. It's taken me years to work it out. Sharp pain, don't. Any cold/flu symptoms below the neck, don't. Cold symptoms above the neck you can't run (normally but maybe not now!). Muscle pain, run! Stitch, breathe into the stitch, adjust your pace, keep running (and don't eat before runs and hydrate properly with electrolytes). Aches and pains? Are you stretching? Yes, every bloody time. Properly, even if you feel good.

I get a weird nerve problem in my foot. Hurts then goes numb. I now know what to do but before I checked it stopped me.

Oh and decent shoes.

resipsa · 05/04/2020 07:03

W4R3 done. Still hard but onwards!
Well done everyone else. We can do this. Our health is more important than ever.

I'll be devastated if exercise outdoors is banned. I saw 1 other person when out today.

Oh an audio book is a good shout

I’m doing W3 R2 today & looking forward to it (what has happened to me?!)

morriseysquif · 05/04/2020 12:30

I'm a runner but I've learnt so much from you just reading your posts @MrsTerryPratchett!

Goostacean · 05/04/2020 14:43

I’ll join you! I used to run 5k quite regularly and was fit enough to basically do it any time I felt like running, in about 30-35mins. Two children later and I can’t get up two flights of stairs without feeling it 🙄 Need to sort myself out but am also worried about my pelvic floor after a difficult birth 4 months ago, so want to take it reeeeally easy. Have just downloaded the app...

happytobemrsg · 05/04/2020 15:14

W3 R2✔️
Whoop! The last 3 minute run was TOUGH

happytobemrsg · 05/04/2020 15:16

Take it easy @Goostacean. I had a c-section 7 months ago & only now feel ok to exercise (though I must admit, I did absolutely nothing before I was pregnant)

Goostacean · 05/04/2020 15:21

@happytobemrsg Yes absolutely, I just want to get out and move a bit, clear my head too. Before lockdown I would have been walking up to 4 miles a day 3 days a week on the nursery run, but now I’m just sedentary (if you exclude bouncing on a yoga ball to get the baby to bloody sleep) and feeling worse for it.

Yogawoogie · 05/04/2020 16:51

I didn’t start after posting the other day but started today. I think the thought of exercise being banned spurred me on. I listened to a pod cast which helped.
I saw a cyclist and a dog walker. The few people I’ve seen recently while out walking have been super friendly, I think everyone is craving human contact!

Goostacean · 05/04/2020 18:12

Just did W1R1! Decided there’s no time like the present, dusted off my gear and left DH with the children. Took it very easy but finished it all and enjoyed being alone (well, apart from my family at least- my route was packed...) in the sun. Good luck everyone!

Spanielsanddaughters · 06/04/2020 13:10

Was supposed to do 6.1 today but felt fine so didn’t take a break and jogged for 20mins straight so have bypassed into week 7!

happytobemrsg · 06/04/2020 14:08

I’m in awe @Spanielsanddaughters

Spanielsanddaughters · 06/04/2020 14:40

Not sure how it happened!
But proof it works, I found 30seconds hard work in January.

There’s hope for everyone. I’m currently hovering around 16st too so don’t let being overweight put you off either!
