I did my first 'run' today. Think I'm going to need help to go all the way to week 9 but determined to do it before I hit the big 50. Anyone else started this week? Fancy a support thread? Couldn't see an active recent one.

W2R2 for me today. I thought I was fit but struggled on the 3rd 90 second run. Blush

happytobemrsg · 01/04/2020 15:05

W2 R3 ✔️
Very pleased with myself as 90 seconds running seemed impossible at the beginning

TheABC · 01/04/2020 15:24

Just joining in here. Prior to kids I completed a 10k and half-marathon, so I know I am capable of doing long-distance runs: up until now, the problem has been time and energy!

I am on Week 2 of 9 and I am looking forward to the longer intervals.

Addler · 01/04/2020 16:08

Can I ask some advice from seasoned pros? I have downloaded the app and want to start but have been having a lot of problems with my knee, it can be very sore when bent/kneeling/up and down stairs etc. Do you think running will negatively affect it?

I keep meaning to see a doctor about it but now obviously that's not possible for the foreseeable future! Also I'm very overweight, although I have lost 60+kg in the last year after bariatric surgery, but I need to increase my exercise to keep up my weight loss. Not sure if my heft will make the knee really bad compared to someone a lot lighter than me?

CeibaTree · 01/04/2020 19:47

@Addler honestly I think wait until your knee feels a bit better as running can be the worst thing for knees especially if one is over weight. I have mild arthritis in one of my knees from time to time and I worked really hard to minimise the flare-up before I began C25k. Also I lost a bit of weight as my BMI was almost in the obese category (now I am just 'overweight -yay!) which I don't think would have been great with my slightly dodgy knee. Sorry that's probably not what you wanted to hear, but I think knee health is too important to take chances. Sounds like your weight loss so far has been awesome. When lockdown is over, swimming would be a more kinder exercise on your knee.

houseofrabbits · 01/04/2020 21:22

I did W2 R1 today! The last 90 seconds was hard I have to say, but I pushed through it.

Addler · 01/04/2020 22:04

@CeibaTree That's what I thought! Thank you! I figured the added bulk on the joint wouldn't be good. I used to swim and got to the gym so struggling with something to keep me going now

happytobemrsg · 01/04/2020 22:17

No idea how I’m supposed to be running 3 minutes on Friday Confused

Yogawoogie · 01/04/2020 22:24

Can I join? I’ve attempted before but not got far for various reasons (excuses!).
I’m up for work at 5:30 tomorrow so might get up 30 minutes early and run with the dog. Wish me luck!

Fozzleyplum · 01/04/2020 22:27

Addler, very well done with the weight loss. If it doesn't aggravate your knee, I would just get in as much brisk walking as you can, wearing supportive, well cushioned shoes. I can't always run owing to asthma, but I keep my fitness levels up by walking and it's a lot easier on the joints.

resipsa · 01/04/2020 22:37

I made the mistake of doing PE with Joe 2 hours after going out. Thighs ache now Grin

I've finished W1 R3, phew! Do you guys wait for another actual week to start before moving on - I was going to start week 2 on Saturday rather than wait for Monday?

Spanielsanddaughters · 02/04/2020 13:36

I think as long as you have a rest day and feel happy enough just go for it.
I skipped a couple runs and did some on consecutive days and all going fine.
Wk 5, r3 tomorrow or Saturday!

ememem84 · 02/04/2020 13:43

W1r2 done at 6am this morning. Felt exhausted going outside at that time. But fairly good now. Next one for me will be Sunday.

TheABC · 02/04/2020 14:12

@Addler, take a look on YouTube for low-impact exercise workouts. Amazon also has yoga, pilates and Zumba classes on its Prime channel: you can do the dancing, but step out instead of jumping, to spare your joints.

Congratulations on your weight loss. :-)

dancemom · 02/04/2020 14:29

Wk4 Run 1 completed today 🙌🏼

resipsa · 03/04/2020 07:26

W4R2 done. Still hard 😬. Anyone else finding W4 hard? Saw a peacock while I was out 😆.

Addler · 03/04/2020 09:10

@TheABC Thank you, I didn't know Amazon prime had workouts!

TheABC · 03/04/2020 09:31

@Addler, they are a well-kept secret!

Just search "fitness" or "yoga" or "exercise" - you get the idea.

happytobemrsg · 03/04/2020 14:13

I start week 3 today - wish me luck!

picklemewalnuts · 03/04/2020 16:06

Wk 1 run 1 done on the trampette. Halfway through I started to get off for the walks, as my calves were killing me.

Let's see what the next day or three bring. 🙈

happytobemrsg · 03/04/2020 16:32

W3 R1 ✔️
I’m so proud of myself! Can’t believe I ran for 3 minutes!! It was HARD but I did it

dancemom · 03/04/2020 16:46

@resipsa yes!
We are doing it without the day rest in between so far but week 4 has been tough so I'm not sure we can keep up this pace with week 5

happytobemrsg · 03/04/2020 16:57

Even though I miss not doing a run on my days off, my body thanks me for it! I applaud anyone who can do it daily!

LittleBird74 · 03/04/2020 21:12

W5R3 done today Grin hard work but it was ok. Pleased I managed it!
