Couch to 5K - Run 1 done...

I did my first 'run' today. Think I'm going to need help to go all the way to week 9 but determined to do it before I hit the big 50. Anyone else started this week? Fancy a support thread? Couldn't see an active recent one.

Can I join? I used to run slowly but fairly frequently but have lost all fitness over the last couple of years.

I've been using 'lockdown' to do C25K with my daughter (primary school and faster than me Grin) and we just completed W3R1.

Just wonder how many weeks we'll get through before outdoor exercise is off limits Sad.

ememem84 · 30/03/2020 21:48

@Mumista boo don’t say that!!

I’m getting pumped to do day 2 tomorrow. Going to get up early doors and run. Run like the wind. Except slower. 😂

dancemom · 30/03/2020 22:00

Can we join?
I did C25K about 2 years ago but after I completed it I started going to the gym more so I didn't run much.
Decided to do start it again with non sporty dd14 and she's doing great! We completed week 1 & 2 last week but omitting the rest days but resting Sunday so we did W3R1 today.

tapdancingmum · 30/03/2020 23:04

I started W1R1 yesterday and have planned to do R2 tomorrow but my legs hurt. Should I just bite the bullet and do it or leave it another day?

I got up to W4 a couple of years ago and gave up so am determined to do it this time as I now have the time (unless he locks us down further).

resipsa · 30/03/2020 23:31

I find the strangest thing about my decision to start 3 weeks ago is that in the absence of the restrictions, I probably would have given up by now with the 'no time' excuse but because DH is a lazy bugger who only ever used to get up early if needed for work, I know the hours before about 8am are mine. Love the peace at 6/7. Thankfully DD1(9) git bored after W1!

W4R1 for me on Wednesday and hoping it's a bit warmer than today 😬

I just finished week1 run 2. I've attempted C25K twice before, but got pregnant around week 3 both times (after many months of trying!), so gave up. It's so nice actually having time to do this and not have to fit it around work/childcare.

user3274826 · 31/03/2020 20:04

I've just done run 1 week 1, came to start a support post and glad to find this. I started it once before, but got pregnant with DD, who is now nearly 7 Blush. I dug out the same trainers and they are very uncomfortable.

I hate running, always been terrible at running. I have hypermobile knees and I am far from graceful. But usually walk about 6 miles a day at least with school runs and work, and I'm a stone or two overweight. With not doing my usual walking and all the extra drinking baking I'm doing I've realised I need to up my daily stroll round the park.

I live next door to a huge park, and although I didn't have much problem staying 2 metres away from others, the park is much busier than usual and I felt a bit self conscious. I think when I went around 6:30pm it was probably peak dog walking time. When does everyone think would be the most quiet? Don't say before 9am because it's not happening.

Mumista · 31/03/2020 20:59

W3R2 done! resipsa my DD is the same age and didn't come for the first time. I love doing it with her but equally love getting some peace away from the intensity of WFH while DH home schools the DC in the same room!
Like dancemom I am not doing proper rest days yet, just one day off between each two weeks of runs. As the runs get longer, this may change.
I'm really cross with myself - running three minutes is as hard as running 40 used to be! Have really let myself go.

donkeyoatey · 31/03/2020 21:07

Today I did week 1 run 3. Definitely easier than the day 1 run. I'm not a natural runner at all though, but do enjoy getting out of the house for half an hour. I'll try to keep going.

StrugglingThrough2 · 31/03/2020 21:12

I completed wk4 run1 today, in August I was running 8k (slowly) but have managed to put on nearly 3 stone in that time.

It’s so hard being heavier... started ww too but that isn’t going so well Blush

ememem84 · 31/03/2020 21:31

Decided not to run today as saw week 1 is only three runs. So every other day for me.

@user3274826 sorry but I think pre 9am is the time. I’m going at 630 tomorrow morning. Dh will be awake but both kids will hopefully still be asleep.

resipsa · 31/03/2020 21:39

Yup. Before 7 is the best for peace, solitude or distance and lack of self-consciousness! And knowing it's done.

Did first run today round and round the garden as self-isolating due to travel - it was ok - definitely want to build up to 5 k - should be able to leave the house next week for exercise 🤞🤞

tapdancingmum · 31/03/2020 22:53

I chickened out of going today but will definitely try and do W1R2 tomorrow. I have set an alarm 😄

resipsa · 01/04/2020 07:09

God, W4 is HARD! Misjudged the distance and ended up 15 mins walk from home. Good job it's deserted!

ememem84 · 01/04/2020 07:31

I’m still feeling the doms from Monday. So tomorrow. Tomorrow is w1r2 for me

Trichinella · 01/04/2020 07:44

I’m half way through.
I’ve a niggling knee so am taking it a bit slower. Some weeks I repeat runs especially if I’ve found them tough, and some weeks I do only 2 runs. I don’t mind, I’m still much fitter than I was and still progressing.
On days in between I do yoga from an app or CXWorks from YouTube.

midnightstar66 · 01/04/2020 07:57

I've been planning to start it with dc but we're struggling to get in any sort of routine with schooling- maybe next week when it's the 'holidays'

midnightstar66 · 01/04/2020 07:59

To add I did it once before and had to give up ar week 6 with tendonitis. I blame trying to do 4-5 runs in a week rather than 3 (I'd repeat that weeks run rather than moving up distance quicker) make sure you're always taking your rest days

picklemewalnuts · 01/04/2020 08:08

How long is each podcast? I'm thinking of doing it on my trampette- no way I could actually run it.

StrugglingThrough2 · 01/04/2020 08:16

They are about 30mins long, there’s a warm up and warm down included.

picklemewalnuts · 01/04/2020 09:13

Thanks struggled!

dancemom · 01/04/2020 10:50

@mumista I'm the same, I completed C25K before and now I'm struggling running 3 minutes 🙈
WK 3 Run 3 completed today, I'm aiming to do a SWEAT workout this afternoon too.
On the plus side I've dropped 3lbs in 10 days so I'm happy with that 🙌🏼

tapdancingmum · 01/04/2020 11:17

W1R2 done 😄 slightly easier than the first one so the next one for me will be Saturday.
