Happy new year all!

It’s January 1 and that means another 30 Days of Yoga with Adriene :)

Here she is. I’ll definitely not manage the full 30 days but who’s in?

OP posts:

I’m up to Day 28. Not missed more than one day at a time and always caught up the day after if I have, which is pretty much a record.

I have a twingey right side of my back which is definitely less twingey than it was four weeks ago, and my upper arms feel more used. I’m also finding it a slight bit easier to move from downward dog to a lunge (but that’s not saying much). But I am finding a bit less stiff overall which is impressive given the three legged plank things from yesterday’s.

I do very little exercise and I’m going to try and keep this up.

Just did day 29 Intuit. Dynamic and I liked it. Half moon pose which I've not done for ages!! Also quite a bit of core work with boat pose towards the end.
Went back and did day 17 synchronise too. I'm still missing 3 days and not sure if I'll manage them - I'm not sure I will like nurture and heal which I've missed.

Ulysses · 30/01/2020 18:55

Hmm my half moon pose really hurt my hips whilst doing it do I had to give up and the boat pose also hurt my back. I could get my legs done but not my back. It's one I'd like to repeat as a measure of if I've improved or not!

Weepingwillows12 · 30/01/2020 18:59

I really liked Intuit. I was a bit wobbly on the half moon pose and ended it earlier than she did but I thought it was fun and also only a couple of downward dogs and not for long. Do you think tomorrow will be a relaxing one or a proper beast of a workout?

Ulysses · 30/01/2020 20:30

If its like previous years @weepingwillows12, it will be done without instructions with the premise being that your body and mind will know the flow by heart now. You could view the day 30 you tube video for other years as I'm pretty sure they are all similar unless there's something new for this year.

Siablue · 30/01/2020 22:02

I am now on day 7. I really enjoyed day 6 with the core. It wasn’t as scatas people made out. I am crap at balancing though. Today I did need to put my hand on the wall when I was on one leg.

Weepingwillows12 · 31/01/2020 06:34

Ulysses my body will know to bring a blanket and have a lie down then! Grin

SophieLion · 31/01/2020 07:09

Just finished day 30!!!! It was a lovely practice and she made all her movements look so dance-y.

My only problem was that without her verbal cues, I kept having to look at my screen to check whether she'd moved onto the next pose, changed things etc etc. Found this a bit annoying when a particular pose meant I should be looking somewhere else other than the screen.

Weepingwillows12 · 31/01/2020 07:37

Well done!

SophieLion · 31/01/2020 16:13

Thank you WeepingWillows Smile** There are two days I didn't do yet ( day 8 heal and day 22 stir) but I'm not sure if I will do them.

Really liked day 30 and would like to do again but the constant need to look at the screen was annoying.

Ulysses · 01/02/2020 09:19

Just finished Day 30 and did yoga every day apart from 2 days. I had the coil fitted yesterday and horrible cramps so did the yoga for period pain one in stead of trying to do this one.

Not sure I would repeat day 30 - I found myself constantly having to look at the screen so didn't really get in the zone too well.

ChachyFace · 01/02/2020 11:09

Also just done 30 today. Can't say it was a favourite. I really need to hear the instructions and, ridiculous I know, I need to constantly be reminded about my breathing.
So, I did the "moves" as best as I could by watching the screen but then my head was always in the wrong place for the posture and I was holding my breath virtually all the time. And I like to close my eyes as much as possible to focus and relax and that's not possible when her mic is off. Not a success for a beginner like me....

coffeecow · 01/02/2020 11:17

I always interpret day 30 as do the moves you want? So I wasn't following along with her and instead just did my own thing. Although I always run out of ideas about 15 mins in so I do look to her for cues and take a few really long child's poses whilst I figure out what next 😂. I felt emotional at the end too, as I always do. Proud of myself for keeping up with it each day.

BobbyBlueCat · 01/02/2020 11:32

@coffeecow - you're right. I think the above posters misunderstood what they were meant to be doing.

The whole idea of day 30 is you DON'T copy what she's doing on the screen. She's doing her thing up there but you're meant to just listen to the music and do a 40 minute session that is made up of the moves you have learnt this month, not copy her.

ChachyFace · 01/02/2020 14:10

yep- one for the experienced, not great for first timers.

Weepingwillows12 · 01/02/2020 18:37

I just did my own thing (so only did 26 minutes not 50). Slow stretches etc. Wasnt a huge fan. Definitely prefer to be led but I get the point.

Either way congratulations to everyone who made it to 30 days! I never stick to new year resolutions but nailed daily yoga (ish) and dry january this year so I am happy.

LittenKitten · 01/02/2020 19:43

Yes well done to everyone that kept with it!

I did my own thing on day 30 too, with a nice long shavasana at the end Grin (almost missed her bow at the end but just caught it in time!).

Hoping to carry on with daily(ish) yoga. Not sure whether to do another '30 days' one or just pick random ones. She does one for the pelvic floor which I'd recommend and a core one (makes me a bit sore the next day).

Need to work on my hamstrings!

LizziesTwin · 01/02/2020 19:59

Did day 30 today so completed it almost within the month, which is by far the best I’ve done so far. I found the music really irritating. I’d rather practice in silence than have music I dislike. Stuck it out for about 30 minutes and then lay down on my mat & read. Sacrilegious behaviour!

SophieLion · 01/02/2020 20:56

Ah yes I completely missed that I was supposed to do my own thing for day 30!!!

Ulysses · 04/02/2020 20:40

Can't quite believe I've been doing this for 4 years without realising that Day 30 was a freestyle practice Blush! Anyways, I don't think I've got the imagination or the stamina to go for 40 minutes doing my own thing.

I was tempted to try it for 20 minutes but was going through the February calendar and thought I'd do Day 1 Fill Your Cup. It was a good practice, nice and stretchy and more active than relaxing. I've 10 min practices the past couple of days too in an attempt to keep going.

I aiming to do Kiss at some point this week when I've got the time and inclination.

Hopefully everyone is managing to get towards the end of Home by now.

KillingEvenings · 04/02/2020 22:42

I'm a bit late to the game, and finished day 7 today.

Just prepping for tomorrow (day 8) but it's HEAL and all the youtube comments say it makes everyone cry. I'm going through some stuff (waiting to hear back about DF's biopsy) and am basically on the verge of tears at any moment. I'll be happy to cry or celebrate when we hear back, but trying to carry on until next week without dealing with the possible scenarios.

What do you reckon, shall i just skip this one? Or was it not as emotional as youtube makes out?

ShinyGiratina · 04/02/2020 23:08

I just found it pleasantly restful.

I'm working on True now.

KillingEvenings · 05/02/2020 10:45

Thanks for the encouragement. Just did and as you say, feel rested rather than emotional, which is exactly what I need

KillingEvenings · 05/02/2020 14:36

In general, I feel like the practice is about 70% meditation, 30% yoga. , Though I'm enjoying it, I hope the yoga side picks up as the month moves on
