Number 14 now full up. I don’t think a new one has been started yet?
November total 191.1. (I think)

I’ve been enjoying reading all your virtual run fun. My re-habbing is starting to pay off after a very quiet 3mths with lots of walking, cycling and strength training. It’s obviously worked as out of nowhere on Friday I ran up a hill I’d never managed non-stop before, and went on to to run my fastest 10k in a long while. I did have to ice and rest after but SO pleased to feel like I can gradually start building mileage back again and hopefully do my rescheduled Half in Nov.

Very true about the virtual races pre toilet queues and I also don’t miss the pre race nerves.

emummy sounds fun

TriSki so pleased you’re doing well

Virtual half today all trail so wasn’t the fastest but it also wasn’t a race just a charity club event.

Lovely run early this morning, glad I got out early the rest of the day was so warm.

That looks like a great place to run paddington - I love seeing everyone's pictures!

I’m missing being able to pop into shops for the toilet though. Thought I had cracked the dodgy tummy but it’s come back in the past week.

Really glad you’re back @TriSkiRun99, even more so that the rest did good things for your running.

2 very slow miles yesterday, but still couldn’t keep heart rate down in zone 3. Today I did my first ever 50km bike ride (not very dodgy brakes, and I could left in the dust when those on road bikes veered past - even when you’re overtaken when running it doesn’t feel quite like they zoom by the way it does on a bike).

71 (feel bad about changing the lovely mileage number it was on)

emummy · 05/05/2020 08:46

Beautiful sunshine again today, pity my body felt rubbish! Bad sleep last night with lots of hot flushes so this morning legs were like leaf and my chest felt sore and tight. Glad I went though, tried to just enjoy the flowers and birds and sun.

Hello everyone Smile I fell off the thread for a while there but I've still been managing to get my runs in, just slipped a little in terms of the longer ones. I also realized I haven't done intervals for a few weeks which is very naughty of me and I reckon I've paid for it too. I forced myself into 12x400m today with 30 seconds recovery and golly it hurt Envy

Bit of a jump in the mileage to make up for my runs this month.

Well done on the intervals Panticus, that sounds like a tough session!
Another gorgeous sunny run this morning, nearly completed my scavenger hunt for the week, just need a magpie. Usually can’t move for magpies but now that I need one they’ve disappeared!

Beautiful photo emummy

Amaura 50k bike sounds like hard work on the legs.

Panticus sounds like a gruelling interval session but well done.

Half mile Intervals for me this morning easy, tempo, hard x 3. Extra hard as I went out before breakfast which is never a good running option but all I could fit in today around work. First run since Sunday so had 3 days off due to losing my mojo a bit this week. Followed my running by some core strength exercises which have slipped during the lockdown.

Feel like a bit of a fraud reading all your posts but I'll stick around anyway 😁

107.5

emummy · 08/05/2020 11:10

You are not a fraud Anotherthink - you’re a runner! All you need to fo to be welcome here is to go for a run now & again, distance & speed are just details.

IRun4Me · 09/05/2020 09:05

Welcome back Triski and panticus
anotherthink you are definitely not a fraud. Any run is a run and is worthy as such. Also distance and speed are so individual and vary so much on other factors that they should only really matter to the individual doing them.
Been doing runs with DS this week, nice to watch his technique and stamina improving with each run.

Tried to increase the pace a bit today, it was hard! Have been sleeping badly all week - thanks hot flushes- so it was a real effort to run at my usual steady pace. Still it was good to be out in the sun and it’s warmer than we were expecting so that’s good.

IRun4Me · 09/05/2020 10:26

emummy you have my sympathy. I’ve just started suffering the same - thought I was going to get away without any hot flushes. How wrong I was. Not sure if it’s related to lockdown anxiety or just coincidence

emummy · 09/05/2020 12:02

Mine come & go, so I can have hardly any and then it’s 5 times a night for a while. Combined with lockdown, DH and I working from home, 3 children all getting bored, well, it’s just great! Considering HRT if it doesn’t settle.

Amaura · 09/05/2020 15:57

@Anotherthink please stick around. This time last year I was just stretching out into 10kms. We might have a high mileage year, but then injuries and niggles mean we’ll be low for a few years. Peaks and troughs is the running way.

@Panticus that’s a crazy interval session 😂 but well done. I’m still preparing for my interval session for the virtual race, thinking of Tuesday

Despite temptation I’ve stuck to mostly slow miles for recovery week. I always think the half on this week will feel easy but for the first few miles my legs didn’t want to work. Luckily had a good stretch out at the end and took a crown on a glorious one mile muddy descent. I hate the heat and write off four months of the year to just getting through.

Done a few circuits this week and took children for a 20 mile ride yesterday so lots of good cross training.

26.8 miles for the week

I’m finding it hard juggling childcare and work but has selfishly kept running even if I’m behind on work hours. Thinking of asking to reduce them or take a day a week leave.

Sorry that post was a bit longer 😳 (hopefully less typos than last time)

emummy · 10/05/2020 09:00

Yesterday I ran in shorts & t shirt. Today I wore all the layers and got snowed on! Gotta love May in northern Scotland.
New route today, through woods and by a little loch I never knew existed! It was great but very very slow, very rough underfoot. Saw deer which was nice.

WhoDrankMyGin · 10/05/2020 09:10

Hello all! I was wondering if I could ask you seasoned runners for some help?

Around 2 years ago I was regularly running 5km - in a not particularly fast time (around 35 mins) but I was really enjoying it

I then tore my hamstring in a non running related incident!

Since then recovery has been v slow but my leg is now completely fine.

Before lockdown I was only really running in the gym (at lunch time, 3 times a week) plus walking 5km (in total) to work from the station but now I am working at home, I can go out and run on the road but I cannot believe how incredibly slow and useless I've become. I've not managed a run more than 5km and I'm having to walk some of it.

I went out this morning and had to stop after 2km because I could barely pick my legs up. Today I think it was my fault because I didn't have a drink before I left the house but it worries me that at a time when I could be exercising every day, I can barely manage a 5km run!

So just a few questions - are you running every day in lockdown? I was trying to have one rest day a week (and only walking on some days) but maybe I need another? Do you vary the time of day you run? I'm wondering whether evening exercise suits me better even though I would far rather do it in the morning and get it out the way!

Amaura · 10/05/2020 09:36

I don’t run every day, for me a max of 5 days in a week. I’ve only recently gone up from 4 and before that it was 3 times a week for a few years. My body prefers longer runs but not running back to back (it likes to rest).

I’d probably keep to three runs, but walks on other days and start hiit sessions twice a week for general fitness. Don’t worry about being able to run continuously without breaks (calories burned only really depend on distance, not speed so doesn’t matter if you walk or run, it just takes longer)

I was supposed to have had two trips to Scotland during lockdown. I remember last year alternating shorts and winter gear. One weekend and one week trip :( The skyrace hasn’t been cancelled yet but don’t see how I’ll get any mountain training in.

WhoDrankMyGin · 10/05/2020 09:42

Thanks Amaura, that's really encouraging - I think my body also likes doing different things so I'll try and mix it up. I'm also eating much worse in lockdown and I'm sure that's contributing Blush

Apparently there were some snowflakes in Scotland today too - just caught it on the weather!

emummy · 10/05/2020 11:25

There were snowflakes in Scotland today, they landed on me!
I run 4 times a week, I tried 5 but my body was not happy! I also try to do a core session once a week and a strength session once a week.

Amaura · 10/05/2020 13:22

Zone 3 recovery 5km ish run plus some glute work. Had to wear a T-shirt

WhoDrankMyGin · 10/05/2020 13:42

Thanks emummy! Running in snow must be quite something! Thanks for the advice - I think I need to listen to my body and go back to 3x and do core/hiit/walks on the other days!
