Hello to anyone who wants to join me over here Smile

A few of us tagged onto the end of the new year/new you c25k gang but they were already at the end or had finished and so perhaps it is best for us to have a new one to discuss our newbie woes, aches and pains?

I’m at the beginning of week 3. Just been out again today, I should’ve done W3R2 but repeated w3r1 instead as I wasn’t comfortable last time, I think I took it too fast. Plus, it is ruddy boiling here today! It went much better and i’ll move on to w3r2 on Sunday.

Please join me, say hi and let us know where you are on the programme and update us on how you’re finding it.

Also just done W4R3. Once I got going I found it ok. I can’t imagine ripening for 20 minutes in a weeks time.

BloggersBlog · 07/10/2019 20:52

W5R1 done even though i wasnt sure about it - it helped that there are only 3 5min runs!!
@BestIsWest I know what you mean - I cant imagine it is going happen. I am dragging my legs after 4 mins still!!

BestIsWest · 07/10/2019 20:55

Lol at ripening.
Well done Bloggers

BloggersBlog · 07/10/2019 20:56

thank you! You too Smile

SisterFarAway · 10/10/2019 15:29

After a few weeks of not running very much due to work, I repeated W6R1 last night. It was tough, back to Parkrun on Saturday and then, I think, I need to find a gym for winter training.

user1471539385 · 10/10/2019 17:30

The 25 minute runs are officially ok! I guess you have to trust the process, like Sarah Millican keeps saying! I’m on to 28 minutes next, but it seems less scary now. Keep going everyone! It honestly works :)

NellieRubina · 10/10/2019 17:43

Hello ladies! May I join you? I did my first couch to 5k today, cheered on by Sarah Millican. It was ok...I feel a bit achey and very smug! I work at home and basically do zero exercise, dabbled in 30 day shred DVDs over the summer but lost the momentum and actually what I think I need most is some proper old fashioned running about. What I struggle with is the laziness and motivating myself to do anything!

BestIsWest · 10/10/2019 17:52

W5R1 done. It was fine but I still can’t imagine 20 minutes the run after next.
Is anyone else really really slow? I laugh to myself when she say slow down if you get tired because it would be impossible to go slower.

BloggersBlog · 10/10/2019 21:57

W5R2 done - but cant believe it goes from 8 mins today straight to 20 mins on the next run!! Then back to 5 mins in week 6. Thought it must be a mistake but no, think 20 mins will be a killer!

Pandaintheporridge · 10/10/2019 21:59

Yeah I really struggle to overtake anyone walking in front of me.

notnowdennis · 10/10/2019 22:30

Hi all!i’ve jus5 completed week four and week five is tomorrow!

Was amazed I can do this.... every time I look ahead and think “no chance”, I suddenly find myself just doing it. I’m four stone overweight so this is hardcore, but very very determined.

Please can I have recommendations for trail trainers as i’m Happier in the woods than on the road?

BloggersBlog · 10/10/2019 23:17

@BestIsWest am soon slow! I think I'm going a fair pace then I look at my shadow and think fgs am I really only going that fast??
My son went with me a couple of weeks ago and didn't even walk fast enough next to me to break a sweat, yet there I was huffing and puffing trying to keep pace... though he is 6ft 2 so I take 3 steps to his one lolloping one I suppose Grin

BloggersBlog · 11/10/2019 08:46

@notnowdennis I like to hide jog in the woods too. I have Karrimor Caracal WP running boots, they are great in muddy areas

Pandaintheporridge · 11/10/2019 10:28

Ok. A woman in her 70s was on a treadmill next to me today and her walking speed was faster than my fastest running speed.
I was Shock and Blush

notnowdennis · 11/10/2019 16:50

Thanks BloggersBlog! I think I may be hiding too!

My run speed is woeful... dog walkers move aside all the time and then... wait....wait...wait until I pass!

BestIsWest · 11/10/2019 19:40

I tried running on the treadmill again, hated it and gave up. Running outside is much less boring. At the moment I run in a small local park that runs along the edge of an estuary. It’s bleak and beautiful and I’m already dreading the nights getting darker.

BloggersBlog · 11/10/2019 19:57

Seem to have hurt my knee from yesterday's run Sad am a bit worried it may be the start of something. If anyone has any tips on what to do I would be grateful. It feels hot to the touch, not terribly but bit and like it needs to be snapped back but it isnt out of joint. Sorry, probably a rubbish description lol but any advice appreciated!

MotherOfSoupDragons · 12/10/2019 12:04

I think you should rest it I'm afraid. Ice pack and ibuprofen until it feels normal #notanexpert

BloggersBlog · 12/10/2019 20:40

Thank you @MotherOfSoupDragons have rested it again today and stuffed my face hopefully back to it tomorrow!

Alwayscheerful · 13/10/2019 21:06

Can I join you please I started walking at park run 32 weeks ago and progressed from 48 minutes to 35 minutes running. I only run at park run once a week but I am a good walker.

I would like to improve or train for something else I am 50+ what do you recommend please?

BestIsWest · 15/10/2019 16:58

Just did W5R3. Can’t believe I managed the full 20 minutes. I won’t pretend it was easy but I did it!

heidipi · 16/10/2019 21:35

Hello! Can I join? I'm up to w4r2 and not bad so far but wary of what's coming in the next couple of weeks! Turned 50 in Aug and decided I need to get fitter but hard to find time which is what made me go for c25k, the fact that I'm out and back home in 30 mins is a big part of the appeal! First daytime run tomorrow - may even do school drop off in my clobber (sorry kids!).

Runningonempty84 · 16/10/2019 22:12

@notnowdennis You really don't need trail shoes unless you're running in thick mud or bog. I do 80% or so of my runs on trail, but stick to a road shoe; usually Brooks Ghost or Nike Pegasus.
My trail/fell shoes I save for serious off-road stuff.
Road shoes tend to be more versatile and more cushioned, which is especially useful if you're new to running and more prone to injury.

notnowdennis · 16/10/2019 22:20

Thank you @runningonempty24. I found a cracking pair of Salomon’s in the sale and my routes are through a national park so I hope a good investment.

I feel a bit weak... I repeated week 5 run 2 to avoid the 20 min scary run!

On the good side... I kicked arse and ran it faster and stronger. No more wussing our tomorrow. I will do it!

MotherOfSoupDragons · 17/10/2019 10:05

Well my bloody tendon is playing up again. Seems to happen when I have done a couple of successive 30 min runs, when I also introduce a hill. So it's either the time or the hill. Will go back to 20 mins (AGAIN, aaargh) on the flat and take it from there, dammit. Resting the damn thing today.
