Hello to anyone who wants to join me over here Smile

A few of us tagged onto the end of the new year/new you c25k gang but they were already at the end or had finished and so perhaps it is best for us to have a new one to discuss our newbie woes, aches and pains?

I’m at the beginning of week 3. Just been out again today, I should’ve done W3R2 but repeated w3r1 instead as I wasn’t comfortable last time, I think I took it too fast. Plus, it is ruddy boiling here today! It went much better and i’ll move on to w3r2 on Sunday.

Please join me, say hi and let us know where you are on the programme and update us on how you’re finding it.

Oh no mother it’s so bloody annoying. I have plantar fasciitis and worrying that I shouldn’t be running but really really don’t want to give up.
I never thought I’d enjoy it but it does make me feel alive.

Did W6R2 today was going well until a flipping dog was let loose and came at me growling and barking - owner shouting uselessly for it to come back Angry so I lost a couple of mins. Funny really how small things get really annoying when you are "in the zone" Grin So will repeat it again with hopefully no dog to distract me!

Blooming dogs!

W6R3 done. A bit of a slog and I was on the verge of giving up more than once but it is definitely mind over matter.

That’s beautiful BestIsWest
I did W6r1 earlier today, haven’t ran since Friday (the 20 min), I managed, but my legs were so tired! And I’m very slow, I can walk quicker! Any tips to stop my legs feeling so tired?

I'm still trying to progress past graduation. Tendon still pesky but did 30 mins ok on Friday then came down with a UTI. Hope to try again on Thursday, fingers crossed.

We’ll get there Mother. We’ve come too far to give up ( I feel a song coming on)

Grin. Reached 30 mins at the end of July but have had this tendon thing on and off since. Am losing hope that I can keep it up tbh.

Had to post because I’m feeling SO pleased with myself! Just done w9r2. The first 10 mins were horrendous and I thought my fingers might drop off with cold, but I got into it and kept going past the end so that I could make it to 5k (I seem to be pretty slow; I usually only get to around 4k in the session). It took me just under 37 minutes.

I started C25K at the start of August and I’m so close to end now! Shock

Hello, ok to join? I just started a few weeks ago, and I moved onto week 4 tonight. Holy crap, that last five minutes nearly killed me. But I did it, hurrah! I’ve tried this programme a few times, but this is the furthest I’ve got and I’m quite proud of myself and excited to keep going.

I never really ‘got’ running before, but I have to say - it’s so good for clearing your head. Hopefully a bit of weight loss might materialise too.

Hi just joining this chat. I’ve been reading but not posting, but in need of some encouragement. I’ve got to week 6 run 1, and couldn’t complete it...had to stop and walk a couple of times. I had to attempt week 5 run 3, three times before I could complete that. I am battling a cold for the last 2 weeks to rational brain knows that it is going to change my ability to run, but picked up a hip injury along the way, and just feeling let down at my self.
Any tips from fellow C25Kers for getting over these blocks and not giving up (I do not want to give up!!!!) thanks 🙏

Hi @Beamz - I found that mid-point really tough too, and had to repeat several of the runs before being able to progress. You’re right: having a cold will definitely have made things tougher for you, and you need to take care of that hip too. Are you stretching before you set off? I also wonder if perhaps you’re running out of steam because you’re trying to go too fast? Sorry if these are both things you’ve considered already.
Anyway, good luck, and keep going! Star At the risk of sounding like Laura (our whichever trainer you’ve picked on the app), you’re doing brilliantly! Compare your ability now to your ability in Week 1 and marvel at your increased stamina.

Thanks @FourEyesGood I just completed that run! Hooray! Avoided a couple of hills, which helped, and was listening to something more interesting..and Laura of course!!! Grin

I'm back on it. Hooray. Up to 25 mins, and getting fed up of Laura saying "I bet you didn't think you could do THIS a few weeks ago". YES I DID! I WAS DOING 30 MINUTES IN JULY!!! Stretching my tendon like crazy and so far so good. So pleased. Glad to see a few people are still on here.

Well done Mother. I’ve had to stop for a few weeks too. My heel has got a lot worse so I’m giving it a few weeks rest. Did do a tiny bit yesterday but really shouldn’t have. Gutted.

Have you had any professional advice Best? I've cut out the inclines (which are part of the park run route I'm aiming for) and will reintroduce those soon and see if that's the problem. If it is, I'll get more specialised exercises from a physio to strengthen the surrounding muscles. I also got my husband to watch from behind while I ran (he's a very brave man) and he pointed out a couple of weird things I was doing. I've tried to stop those as well, which might have helped. Good luck.

No, I haven’t. We have a very good foot clinic in the village so I think I need to book an appointment. So far I’ve pretty much been running on the flat but I’ve had Achilles problems both sides for years. Thought they were better though. Am going to concentrate on swimming and weights for a few weeks.

Might be worth seeing them, since you're already investing time in sorting it out. I should probably see the physio too, regardless of how the next few weeks go, as I've obviously got a weakness in that area.

How do you all cope with the dark? Did C25k years ago when I was home a lot and could go in the day, but now I work full time so it means running in London in the dark, which I guess means pavements not trails?

What does everyone else do?

Report
MotherOfSoupDragons · 25/11/2019 17:52

I don't do the dark. Not well enough lit around here. Would do in London though.
