Hello to anyone who wants to join me over here Smile

A few of us tagged onto the end of the new year/new you c25k gang but they were already at the end or had finished and so perhaps it is best for us to have a new one to discuss our newbie woes, aches and pains?

I’m at the beginning of week 3. Just been out again today, I should’ve done W3R2 but repeated w3r1 instead as I wasn’t comfortable last time, I think I took it too fast. Plus, it is ruddy boiling here today! It went much better and i’ll move on to w3r2 on Sunday.

Please join me, say hi and let us know where you are on the programme and update us on how you’re finding it.

I’ve not been out for a week :(

theneverendinglaundry · 11/08/2019 19:46

Can I tag along with you all? I've started c25k and will be doing w3r1 tomorrow.

I did w2r3 on friday morning and felt awful all day, my legs ached so bad. I really hope that doesnt happen again tomorrow!!

OopNorfDahnSarf · 12/08/2019 06:38

What type of ache? Do you maybe need to do some stretches after running?

theneverendinglaundry · 12/08/2019 07:17

Maybe that's it - I've been doing some but maybe not for long enough. Probably also just a sign that I am working muscles that aren't used to being worked!!

My legs basically felt really tired for the rest of the day, I didnt get that with the other runs!

SisterFarAway · 13/08/2019 20:01

And I have graduated :) Today's run felt very light footed, maybe because I was the last one in the programme?
Still quite a bit off from 5K, as I "only" managed just under 4K in the 30 minutes.
The good news is that I could have kept on running for another few minutes, so 5K is entirely possible. Next stop Parkrun, possibly on Bank Holiday Saturday.

I know it sounds trite but trust the programme, I never would have thought I'd run 30 minutes in one go when I was completely shattered after my first run :) You can do it.

MotherOfSoupDragons · 13/08/2019 20:32

Well done Sister. That's fantastic. Am feeling a bit envious and sorry for myself. Still laid up with my ankle.

SisterFarAway · 13/08/2019 21:03

Thank you, I hope your ankle heals soon, I've had a few ankle injuries and they are just sh1t. I found that ice on the ankle and ice (cream) in a bowl helped me feel better Grin almost instantly.

Whattodoinleeds · 13/08/2019 21:22

Aww Sister that’s amazing. I love hearing about people graduating.

Whattodoinleeds · 14/08/2019 06:18

Went out this morning to repeat W5R2 which I’d done last week before having a week off. Got to 5 mins and thought yay over half way through my first 8. Kept going ... and going ... and going and Laura wasn’t speaking to me so I’m thinking that witch has left me, pulled off my jumper and armband while running to discover I’d accidentally hit W5R3 and was 9.5 mins into the 20 min run! Walked a few paces to get my armband on then managed to keep going. Felt a bit of a fraud at the end when she was giving me my big well dones but I got there. Will repeat it on Friday though I think before moving on just so I know I can do it in one go.

Hope everyone is running well!

I’ve not done c25k before, but have starting doing a combination of jogging and walking a couple of times a week. I think the app will help me to increase the jogging, as I have no structure to it at all at the moment! I’ve done a couple of parkruns with a bit of walking and mostly jogging, but am starting to get pain in my left hip. (Have done some very hilly runs in the last couple of weeks... could be this?) Does w4r1 sound about the right place to start? I can just about run 10 minutes without stopping, but am nowhere near being able to do 20!

MotherOfSoupDragons · 14/08/2019 13:36

Week 4 sounds good to me. Good luck. I think the structure will help.

impatientmammy · 14/08/2019 18:10

Hi all just thought of the fact maybe there might be a thread for this. Just finished week 3 run 2 week 3 is going better than week 2 did. I run with a friend for the 3rd run each week (Which is her 1st) but I've just realised week 5 is crazy and it intensifies with each run 🤦🏻‍♀️. Anyway hi all x

lookingatthings · 14/08/2019 18:20

Glad I found this thread! I'm on w7r2. Been feeling really positive but last time I went out I had to stop after 10 mins, even though I'd run for 25 mins twice before. It was quite disheartening. I'm back out tomorrow and hope I can get over this slump but also have that nagging thought of "I can't do it". It's really silly because I've made such massive improvements! Anyone else get a mental block like this? Spur me on with your success stories please :)

Lellochip · 15/08/2019 00:02

lookingatthings I did the 25 mins, felt very smug. Next run, had to stop after 10, have myself a minute to walk, then after another couple of minutes I gave up and sat under a tree feeling sorry for myself 😅

Next attempt was fiiine, done a few since then - all good. I think sometimes any one of a number of things can just bugger up a run but it'll be a one off. The weather, what you did/didn't drink or eat, your outfit, the position of the constellations etc.... 😄

Start your next run slow and steady, and just plod it out. You've done it before so you can definitely do it again 👍🏻

LisaSimpsonsbff · 15/08/2019 00:05

Ooh, can I join this thread? Due to do week 2 run 2 tomorrow - this is my third attempt at doing C25k and the furthest I've ever got before is week 4, so I'm really trying to stick with it this time!

lookingatthings · 15/08/2019 10:32

@Lellochip that's exactly the kind of pep talk I need, thank you! Heading out now so fingers crossed.

Vagndidit · 17/08/2019 16:16

Made a very brave leap to do a parkrun with my DH this morning, a seasoned parkrunner, while in America on holiday. Completed it, albeit quite sloooow. It was tough going. I hadn't ventured past my safe 28 minute week 8 runs in the app until today. Took me 47 minutes in all but heh ho, I'll take it. I ran a 5k!!!!

Lellochip · 17/08/2019 23:37

Congratulations Vagndidit 😃 I did my first park run today too, though me and running buddy did a test run earlier in the week so was actually our 2nd 5k

Still can't believe where I was 8 weeks ago

halfgirlhalfturnip · 17/08/2019 23:47

@Lellochip how did you find it - I feel put off after the high of completing C25K - park run was like a proper running club and I felt like a fraud.

Lellochip · 17/08/2019 23:55

I've been training on the park run route anyway so apart from the crowd it wasn't too different, but yes was well aware there were plenty of "proper runners" there 😆

Found I ran faster with the crowd, though tried not not - meant my athsma kicked in so today's run felt much harder than the last 5k. Not excited for next week's yet but apparently we're running it again anyway... I'd not really planned past completing it once 😅

MotherOfSoupDragons · 18/08/2019 07:44

Well done, park runners. My physio has said I can try a run at the end of next week but I've got to go back a few weeks. Feeling very sorry for myself.

wiltingflower · 19/08/2019 23:45

Well done @Vagndidit and @Lellochip!

I am back from my holiday and after a week's pause in running, I did the final run for week 6 today 😃

I found it a bit tough and I got stitches in the first few minutes of running out of being out of habit I guess. I am so glad I finished week 6! I think my aim now is to make sure I stick with the program and build up the habit of running again so that by sometime in September I feel confident enough to start parkruns.

wiltingflower · 19/08/2019 23:47

💐 @MotherOfSoupDragons
I wish you a speedy recovery!

soreknees · 21/08/2019 18:05

Hi all! My ankles and knees are killing me. Weirdly my knuckles too so think I’m having joint issues in general tbh. Have gotten to W5R3 and wonder if the distance was just too much on my knees and ankles. Should be out today but can’t decide whether to go or give myself another day. Unsure if I’m just giving myself an extra day cos I can’t be bothered going out Blush

Vagndidit · 22/08/2019 22:19

Good going to everyone! Still feel like a fraud, like I completed the parkrun by accident (my husband was a fantastic coach and pacer and got me through it) Will be back home in the UK this weekend and hope I can keep up the momentum on home turf on my own.
