Hi lovelies! I was just about to join the running thread and saw it was almost full and couldn’t find another
I’ve copied below from the last thread and I hope you don’t mind me joining you all!

This is the 12th thread since it started with a few of us who wanted to chat about our running, running clothes, support each other and get some training tips.

We talk about our runs and support and encourage where needed.

Please feel free to come and join us and add your miles to our running total for the month for the whole thread in bold at the bottom of each post.
Currently on 10.2 for September

Best wishes

oh emummy that's not ideal weather is it!! Here's hoping for some cool but settled weather for us all

emummy · 18/03/2019 08:14

Well done kitten that's fantastic! What a great time! Enjoy your recovery, eat all the cake!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 18/03/2019 08:16
Grin

So today, is it foam rolling and eating? Is there anything else I should do? apart from work that is.

emummy · 18/03/2019 10:05

Can't think of anything, do you have to work?! Only other compulsory activities are admiring your medal and patting yourself on the back!

Daisydoesnt · 18/03/2019 10:12

Well done Kitten!! It's hard work in the wind, great job you Grin

OhYouBadBadKitten · 18/03/2019 10:39

Thanks! Grin I'm doing very sucessful chocolate eating here.
How do people do marathons? Every single bit of me is exhausted.

BusterTheBulldog · 18/03/2019 13:30

Ah brilliant OYBK how did your injury hold up?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 18/03/2019 17:23

It started off sore and then after about mile two just sort of went numb Grin Given I was still limping before the run I was grateful for that.

TriSkiRun99 · 18/03/2019 17:29

Great achievement kitten the fatigue after is awful though. My DH did a 22m training run Sunday so I knew he’d be good for nothing the rest of the day, made me smile that he seemed SO surprised by that Grin he has his first Marathon in a few wks time. He’s supported me through various sporting things, so me doing the brunt of the childcare this wend wasn’t too bad. I’ll get my turn at some point.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 18/03/2019 17:38

I honestly had no idea at all! I thought it would be a case of me having sore legs and that I'd sleep well. Hah! I've been a useless pathetic lump today.

emummy · 19/03/2019 10:47

Nice easy trot through the forest with the dog today, followed by a shower for both of us - hers was because she rolled in poo. Why do dogs do that?! Anyway, relaxing with a coffee now while she sulks in the corner smelling nice and clean!

Delurking to say it's fascinating to read everyone's tips and strategies. I'm training for my first HM in July. Ran 11km on Sunday in a horrible gusty headwind 1:04:15. I've put myself down in the 2:15 group for the HM start but I don't know if that's gettable - I'll have turned 56 by then. Never run further than 10 miles yet Hmm. I'm confident and comfortable with @28 mins for 5km and @58 mins for 10km atm. Will run 12km today or Friday, depending on how much work I get done!

Daisydoesnt · 19/03/2019 11:28

hello kedgeree and welcome! I reckon you'll easily do 2.15 for your HM in July. My 5&10 PBs are very similar to yours and I ran my first HM at home on Sunday (I mean on my own, just round the lanes) and did it in 2.06. My first "official" HM is a week Sunday; when I entered before Xmas I put myself down for a 2.30 time - I hope i do better than that!
Good luck with the training

Kedgeree · 19/03/2019 11:42

Thanks Daisy. I've only entered because the route pretty much goes past my front door so it would be rude not to! It'll be my only one because I love the 10k and don't want to get sucked into the longer distances at my age lol.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 19/03/2019 13:22

You'll be fine Kedgeree if you take training steadily. My previous 10k result before training for my HM was 1:03 and I managed the 2:15 time ok.

Still bloody knackered. When does that go?

Kedgeree · 19/03/2019 13:27

It doesn't IME, but then I'm pretty old. I'm quite judicious in my running and do a lot of cross training to keep the running injuries to a minimum. I won't run more than once or twice a week, but train every day.
Running makes me really hungry too and tends to strip weight off me.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 19/03/2019 13:32

I have to get less knackered than this, I can't have done myself in for life after one race Grin

Daisydoesnt · 19/03/2019 13:35

You'll bounce back OYBK! I take it you have no inclination to pull the running shoes back on yet? Grin

OhYouBadBadKitten · 19/03/2019 13:36

My mind wants to run, but my shuffling walk says perhaps not Grin

Daisydoesnt · 19/03/2019 13:37

Funny you say that Kedgeree about weight I'm actually starting to get worried now - I've always been slim-ish but I now look really thin. I'm eating like a horse, it must just be the running. I've started today with toast & peanut butter as an elevenses to try and up my calories.

Kedgeree · 19/03/2019 13:51

Daisy A few years back when I was running more I ran myself into runners bowel so toddled off to the GP to get a script for Mebeverine. He took one look at me, said "Gosh you're very thin, I think we need to refer you with red flag unexplained symptoms" - he meant for bowel cancer. I was like Hmm Confused - my symptoms aren't unexplained, I'm running a lot you twit. But no, before you could say knife I was at the hospital with a scope up my backside. Needless to say, there was nothing wrong. I'm a natural ectomorph type so I tend to leave all my gains from the gym on the road Grin.

Daisydoesnt · 19/03/2019 18:50

Kedgeree oh dear, that was bit drastic!!! BTW When I said "worried" I didn't mean that I'm concerned for my health, just that I don't look great and I've even lost the two little fried eggs that I had. Blush

But I am making a real effort to eat lots so that I have plenty of fuel on board for next weekend Grin

thenewaveragebear1983 · 19/03/2019 20:07

I have found that along with getting slimmer I have also become kind of 'sinewy' and yes, rather stripped of fat especially on my shoulders/collarbone area. Weirdly, despite losing at least one dress size in the last 6 months, I am exactly the same weight and have to actively cut calories to see any further weight loss (I began running to lose weight, lost 3 stone last year). I am still firmly in the middle of my healthy bmi range though, I'd actually quite like to lose half a stone more. The problem is I can eat oh boy can I eat

I ran 18km today in prep for my half, I really loved it actually as I'd felt my mojo waning recently and was beginning to doubt whether I'd ever get it back in time. I've been running 10-12kms easily, and occasional 15s, but today felt like a big leap towards 21. I'm planning now to go the extra 3 km and do a 21 hopefully next week.

Well done everyone in their recent achievements, I've been lurking but reading!

Kedgeree · 19/03/2019 22:41

Flat 10k tonight in good weather 56:50. First time I've done that distance twice in a couple of days - Sunday / Tuesday so pleased with that. Will run again at the weekend and aim to do 12k or so. Well done thenewaveragebear.

TriSkiRun99 · 20/03/2019 14:42

I’ve not lost any weight running...and I really need to! I’ve changed shape though, so now trying to log what I eat on MFP again to see what I can cut out. Interestingly there was an article in runners world this month looking at this and they said that one body type potentially their blood sugar levels crash after exercise and this drives the feeling to eat “more” after exercise (this is me!) versus my DH body lean type whose appetite disappears after exercise and he really struggles to eat & gain/maintain weight when exercising a lot Hmm
