I’ve copied below from the last thread and I hope you don’t mind me joining you all!

This is the 12th thread since it started with a few of us who wanted to chat about our running, running clothes, support each other and get some training tips.

We talk about our runs and support and encourage where needed.

Please feel free to come and join us and add your miles to our running total for the month for the whole thread in bold at the bottom of each post.

Hi bear I didn't think of tucking them into my bra, good idea. Thanks.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 23/02/2019 20:41

On be warned, they can get a bit damp!! I actually find kitchen roll better, it's easier to handle while running.

IRun4Me · 24/02/2019 08:54

Good luck averagebear
I try and carry tissues but sometimes forget. I’d never wipe my nose on my sleeves or gloves Blush honest (don’t tell my son).

DomesticAnarchist · 24/02/2019 09:04

Hellooo!

Has anyone tried low heart rate training? Did you make any progress with it?

Thanks!

FATEdestiny · 24/02/2019 10:09

The need to carry tissues annoys me too. I know many runners who don't need to, but I carry 3 tissues per 5km - so need masses on long runs.

I've tried all manner of medication, including a spell with prescribed steroid nose spray. Nothing made any significant difference so my conclusion is I'll just have to get used to it.

I take the attached on all my runs, attached to my belt. It's actually a chalk bag for mountain climbers. But works to carry tissues too, and Keep a them away from skin so dry. I attach it to my running belt.

Such a beautiful day here that I just did a 5K (well, 3.6 miles actually), despite it notionally being a "rest" day for me. However, I've had so many rest days (too much work, ill small people, January gloom) it feels great to be back out there again.

(I've NC but I dip in and out of this thread periodically).

emummy · 24/02/2019 11:01

Supposed to do 10k race today acc to my training plan, but none around here so did my own & got a pb! Very pleased. Beautiful sunny day here.

7km for me today - such a beautiful morning to be out along the river bank! I really, really enjoyed it. And it was momentous for two reasons:

  1. (the main one) it's the furthest I've run, not only since returning from injury but since I got pregnant in autumn 2014.
  2. I accidentally forgot to start my music so, despite wearing my headphones, I did it without. This has given me a massive boost that I'll be okay on my 10km race without music, something I've been stressing about.

Smashed it! 15km, 83 mins!

onanothertrain · 24/02/2019 14:39

Well done bear

emummy · 24/02/2019 15:24

Well done bear! Fantastic time! Maybe you should always eat biscuits the day before!

IRun4Me · 24/02/2019 17:05

Well done average bear and emummy
Such a lovely day for a run. I went whilst DS doing his sport training so went to a different place, managed to run part of it by the river but also had a hill to contend with - total shock to the system. Would have gone further but was time constrained. I also forgot earphones and actually the peace and quiet was lovely.

Thanks everyone! Well done emummy

Thoroughly glorious day for running today, cool, sunny- long may it last!

DaffoDeffo · 24/02/2019 18:18

My eyes water rather than my nose! I look like I'm crying all the time!

BusterTheBulldog · 25/02/2019 11:58

0miles in the past week for me Sad after last Sunday’s 20miles, My sciatica (this time on other side!) has flared up. I couldn’t even wal mon and tues, plus I was also bedridden with nasty cold / virus but am slowly getting back. Still no running though, am booked in for a half on sun, it’s seeming unlikely, but the fact I have miles in the bank gives me a tenney, tiny hope!

I also carry tissues / kitchen roll. I do prefer winter running though as I can use my gloves ShockBlush!

Ive also tried low heart rate running too, or at least keeping an eye on HR as I run, definitely find it helpful.

Great running everyone, hopefully I’ll have miles to add again soon.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 25/02/2019 13:45

Well done indeed NewAverageBear! That's a really great time!

I'm running again. Woo Hoo. Slowly and painfully, I feel so unfit. But I managed 5km this weekend.

BusterTheBulldog · 25/02/2019 14:11

Great news OYBK!

onanothertrain · 25/02/2019 18:46

A friend advised me to try a wee bit of vicks rub round my nostrils to help with the runny nose. Tried it today and it did help, took a good 4 kms before it started running but I was able to sniff normally if that makes sense. Felt a bit weird though!

TriSkiRun99 · 25/02/2019 20:41

My nose drips a lot ..I use the trick my big brother taught me when cycling and just blow it out 1 nostril when no one is looking Blush or use my sleeve as it all gets washed after a run anyway Grin

emummy · 26/02/2019 11:55

Mixed pace run this morning in beautiful sunshine. Now at home looking after poorly ds, 10, who got sent home from school. Hope he keeps his bug to himself!

BusterTheBulldog · 26/02/2019 23:01

Where specifically did you put the vicks onanothertrain? I tried it at home (wild me) and my nostrils are now on fire! 😂

Still no running but physio reckons I should be ok for half on sun. Don’t feel confident now but fingers crossed!

onanothertrain · 27/02/2019 07:50

buster I just put a tiny wee smear round the entrance to my nostrils, I didn't put it right up. I used supermarket own brand vicks rub - maybe its weaker!!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 27/02/2019 12:59

I'm back to stupid amounts of pain when I run. Sad

emummy · 27/02/2019 13:05

Oh kitten that's not good. Do you need to get back to the person you saw? Was it a physio? It sounds as though the exercises you were given aren't helping. So frustrating

OhYouBadBadKitten · 27/02/2019 15:55

I'm still under the physio, so I'm waiting to speak to them to find out what we do next. In the mean time the physio team have recommended rest and ice.
