Help need some advice please!
I've had 2 days off due to super busy schedule and no time at home. Last night my right shoulder felt knotty so asked DH to massage it a bit.
Did L3 today & on the last strength section, my shoulder started pulling and I couldn't complete it Sad
I've been trying to stretch it out and massage it since then and it's not feeling good. I'm going on holiday at the weekend and I really wanted a final push at this every day this week so I'm feeling good for it - going with a family of long distance runners Blush
I can't do any more workouts whilst my shoulder's pinging can I? Or CAN I?!
Any advice much appreciated...

affectionincoldclimate · 05/08/2018 21:55

L1 done. Felt particularly sluggish and defeated (and hideously bloated) because of PMT but popped onto the thread, saw @clearsommespace's posts and thought it would be rude not to join Grin

affectionincoldclimate · 05/08/2018 22:02

@babyinthacorner oh that sounds utterly pants! I'm no physio or Dr and these two would probably advise you to take it easy as you don't want to really injure yourself.

That said...

  1. When I had shoulder pain I stretched with this yoga woman from YouTube. This vid is low tech but it is really wonderful. Try her tonight and see if your shoulder improves.
  1. A PT friend once told me that the reason why all weight loss and toning DVDs have so many squats and lunges because leg muscles are the biggest muscles in the body and connected to the core and working these gives you A LOT of benefit for fat burn. So why don't you focus on legs. Lunges and squats and all the plyometrics involving legs like high knees and buttkicks and skaters rather than planks.

Good luck and sending healing vibes to the shoulder.

babyinthacorner · 05/08/2018 23:09

YES affection! Great idea, thank you! I was thinking I might get away with just leaving the arm bits out as it always seems like there isn't as much hardcore arm stuff on L3, but now I know the science behind that I'm much happier Wink makes perfect sense. Thanks for the yoga link too - I'll try to do it in the morning. Currently lying on a yantra mat in bed after having heat on it and another massage from DH. I couldn't pinpoint the knot tonight even though the pulling feels quite specific. My whole shoulder just feels tight and tender Sad
Gutted because I've started to see some definition in my arms and that very rarely happens!

HappyEverIftar · 06/08/2018 09:39

L3 D1 done!

Perhaps nefret and baby we can smash this level together?? Go on holiday a week thurs.. hoping to have done all of shred by then.

Mingmoo · 06/08/2018 10:31

I've done L3 a couple of times (I think I was on day 3) but then had a break for a couple of weeks, so I've gone back to do L3 from the start. L3.1 last night and I just cannot do it all the way through without stopping. I need a break before the last circuit and during the cardio - I physically can't do the rockstar jumps unless I've got my breath back. My legs feel like they're full of lead!

clearsommespace · 06/08/2018 15:02

L2 done this morning. L3 tomorrow so I will be facing the dreaded rock stars!

OP posts:
clearsommespace · 06/08/2018 15:03

baby take care and don't take any risks.

OP posts:
affectionincoldclimate · 06/08/2018 17:43

L2 done. Heat got me more than those v shaped arm raises.

Confession time. Never do the rockstars. I physically can't get both my legs up off the ground in that position. It makes me queasy and scared. I do lateral skaters instead Grin

HappyEverIftar · 06/08/2018 18:18

Shock affection

Grin

I just feel a bit of a tit doing those jumps! Cats remain unimpressed..

babyinthacorner · 06/08/2018 19:43

I did it! Substituted all exercises involving arms for weighted squats, extra lunges and kickboxing kicks. Felt good generally but my knees didn't like it that much... will try again tomorrow and if my knees still feel dodgy I'll do extra sit-ups instead. Thanks for the advice all.

Rockstar jumps make me die too. Ridiculous exercise Grin

OublietteBravo · 06/08/2018 20:14

After two rest days I finally found sufficient motivation to do L1D3. Hoping to hang on to the motivation for a few more days. We'll see...

Waitingonasmiley42 · 06/08/2018 20:58

Level 2 day 8 done! Should start level 3 on Thursday.

clearsommespace · 06/08/2018 21:52

affectioninacoldclimate At first I was Shock but then who cares, you're still getting great results!
I do wonder when I do rock stars what would happen if I didn't unfold my legs in time and come crahing down on my knees.

OP posts:
affectionincoldclimate · 06/08/2018 22:23

Its good to come clean. I know Jillian would understand. Or beast me into doing the like she does with poor Natalie Grin

@clearsommespace this is exactly what I can't get over in my head. I've tried and it makes me lunge forward like a lunatic Grin This also means I can't take these rockstar jump photos people put on social media to signify they're having loads of fun!

@babyinthacorner Well bloody done! But don't break your knees in the process.

NefretForth · 07/08/2018 06:44

I'm failing - between bad sleep (and the cat waking me by mewing outside my window at 4 am) and work things in the evenings I don't think I'm likely to start L3 till later this week.

My knees don't like those rock star jumps, or the jumping lunges, so I tend to swap other exercises for them. (Love the image of your cats being unimpressed, HappyEverIftar - mine sometimes looks at me leaping up and down in front of Jillian with the most speaking expression of contempt.) I can't do the rock stars without crashing hard into the ground in exactly the way Jillian says you shouldn't. I've tried doing them on a mat, but they're clearly just a rotten idea.

babyinacorner, hope your shoulder's better soon!

clearsommespace · 07/08/2018 07:19

Nefretforth, is the heat affecting your sleep?
Did L3 today. I substituted fast squats (no impact but tough on the upper legs) for the second set of rock stars.

L3 D2 done!

Well done oubliette! Keep going.

Nefret this is my girl helping me stretch. My boy cat was stood behind me yowling (encouragement?). They just love to let you know how they're feeling don't they? Smile

I'm thinking of giving this a go (tried once before but then gave up) - do you all do it every day? I assume you're meant to do it for 30 consecutive days but I'm wondering about doing it a few times a week when I can't get to the gym.

xx

clearsommespace · 07/08/2018 16:00

Hello!
JM doesn't recommend doing it every day. I was aiming for 5 days a week so it would take 6 weeks to complete but I went over.
We're all just doing the best we can!

OP posts:
OublietteBravo · 07/08/2018 19:35

L1 D4 done. I’m very sweaty - quite looking forward to the cooler weather promised for tomorrow.

NefretForth · 08/08/2018 06:58

I aim for two or three times a week because I'm mixing it up with other things. And at the moment I'm failing altogether because I'm doing lots of things after work, so evenings are no good, and not sleeping very well so there's no hope of getting up early in the mornings. I don't think it's the heat; I've been fine up to this week.

HappyEverIftar, love the feline stretch! Mine does that, mostly when I really want to be on the mat...

clearsommespace · 08/08/2018 11:34

Lovely storm last night. 5 km run this morning.
I have been known to do JM yoga workout at 3am when my insomnia was really bad.
I got right back to sleep afterwards.

Gemi33 · 08/08/2018 12:14

Thanks - that's what I was thinking, 2-3 times a week around other things.

Have people noticed a real change in their bodies doing this DVD - if so how long would you say it took? Obviously it will depend on how often you do it but I have put on a lot of weight this year and I am desperate to start losing it and I have a holiday in just over 12 weeks time so wondering if this might help.
