Hi all
I did this a few years back but never progressed past level 1.
I'm 9 weeks pregnant and doing zero exercise, was running before (though only once a week, twice tops) but gave up as was really nauseous at first. That's passed now and want to do something but needs to be relatively low level I reckon. Has anyone done the shred when in first trimester and do you think it's okay?

Sturmundcalm · 07/05/2019 16:33

thanks @clearsommespace - yes, near Loch Lomond.

@agteacht - have only done Jillian well past pregnancy stage but can't imagine it would be suitable to start in pregnancy. JM has a page on her website that's not desperately clear on what she recommends you do but has quite a few don'ts that I think would rule out the Shred... e.g. no crunches

clearsommespace · 08/05/2019 06:40

I hope to visit Scotland one day. I went on a farm holiday as a young child but I don't remember much and wasn't of an age to appreciate the landscape.

I think Davina does a pregnancy workout but got into home workouts when DC were 5+ so no personal experience.

L3D3 yesterday. Not sure if I'll manage today. Have a day of tidying the basement planned with DH and I may well be too weary.

Bendy, are your children old enough to do handstands? Mine loved it when I did handstands against the wall with them. If you stay in position for a few seconds it requires a lot of arm strength!

I don't think they would be so impressed now they are teens.

OP posts:
BendydickCuminsnatch · 08/05/2019 11:58

clear I have never done a handstand in my life, it’s one of my goals! Can you believe, I have clear memories of being in infants and being too worried people would think my legs were fat if I did a handstand and my dress went up. So I never tried!

My eldest is almost 4 and always trying to do a handstand so we should learn together 😄 off to do shred now.

Sturmundcalm · 08/05/2019 19:20

day 9 of 6W6P done - struggled a bit cause I was out last night!

bendy you're making me feel better - I've never done a good handstand but I did at least do some bad ones when I was younger Grin

clear should definitely come up - it's quite easy to combine one of the cities with outdoorsy stuff if you wanted to try and fit in the "whole experience".

agteacht · 08/05/2019 21:26

@Sturmundcalm oh good point thank you - I had forgotten about the crunches... think you're right. Swimming is probably my best option

clearsommespace · 09/05/2019 10:51

I used to be quite good at gymnastics. At school I did BAGA awards and had badges sewn on my leotard. At break we used to do handstands against the wall until we were red in the face! I could never do the splits though!
Have any of you been on a swing recently? It really works your abs hard. Sadly it makes me feel queasy. Used to swing for ages as a kid.

day 10 done - still struggling really badly with the burpees, particularly second time round. quite frustrating...

BendydickCuminsnatch · 10/05/2019 19:40

L2D4 done - although I keep eating crap! Although my absolute must-be-stuck-to rule of no sugar is going ok. Just eating a lot of other stuff to make up for it Hmm

lovelyjubilly · 10/05/2019 20:49

Hi everyone!
I've just done my 3rd day of level 2 and thought I'd come on here to see if there was a thread I could join.

Lo! Here you all are!

I'm very encouraged to hear that level 3 is nicer than level 2...is that the general consensus? Last time I attempted the 30 day shred I found out I was pregnant halfway through it so I never made it to level 3.

I'm sorry if this has already been answered, but does anyone else have issues with their knees hurting for the high-impact stuff? I think I might be able to manage a few of the proper plank jacks and squat thrusts if it weren't for my knee joints feeling like they're about to fall apart.
Any advice?

BendydickCuminsnatch · 10/05/2019 20:54

Yes level 2 is hideous compared to level 3! It’s all the plank stuff IMO.

Can’t advise on the knee stuff, sorry!

clearsommespace · 13/05/2019 10:28

Hi lovelyjubilly your username made me smile.
I saw a recommendation for workouts which are easy on the knees. Will try to find it.

sturm the second time around is so much tougher!

day 12 (which is really week 3, day 2 cause I'm only doing 5/week) done. actually managed better with the burpees so obv starting to make a difference and have even added in the weight to the lever crunch.

@lovelyjubilly - i struggled a bit with my knees doing the shred but def found level 3 a bit easier than level 2. although i struggled with different moves to the ones you've mentioned, the plank jacks were fine and it was more some of the deep squat stuff and the jumping moves where i felt it worst I think. you could try and swap out a couple of the moves that you think are worst?

Zaor · 15/05/2019 21:49

Hello All,
I've just dug out my Shred DVD. I did it a few years back - well to level 2! Want to do it again but realised I can't connect the ancient DVD player to the new TV. I looked on uTube but I couldn't see a full version of it - does anyone know if there is one? Otherwise I'll have to try hooking up the Xbox to TV and see if it will run on that.
TIA...

clearsommespace · 16/05/2019 07:51

I don't think it is online. My DVD went sticky a couple of weeks ago and all I could find were people who had filmed themselves doing it. That served my purpose of remembering the next move and doing it for long enough.
I'm not sure it would be any good for you. I think you need JM's advice on good form if you haven't done it for a while.

L3 D9 done today.

nearly there @clearsommespace!

week 3, day 4 done so will be starting level 2 on Saturday.

and @Zaor - I've never seen it on youtube, think you can buy it digitally on amazon prime which is probably why it's not available that way... I play my DVDs on the PC as that's the room I use.

clearsommespace · 17/05/2019 09:02

Done!

Sturm I will join you with L2 6 pack on Sunday.

Thanks ladies. I found the cables and got it working on Xbox. L1D1 done - ish I couldn't do the cardio on the first round years ago and can't do it now!! Things can only get better...

Sturmundcalm · 17/05/2019 19:19

good luck @Zaor. took me about 3 goes of starting the Shred before I actually finished it... have now caught the bug though it seems. loaned my friend my Ripped in 30 DVD and think I'm going to have to ask for it back once I get close to finishing 6 week 6 pack!

stressful week with work so had a drink last night (just 1!) and therefore struggled with DVD this morning but did also fit in a hill walk at lunchtime so at least that was something. level 2 tomorrow... should probably film me and @clearsommespace to do a compare-and-contrast Grin not sure I'm looking forward to it! lighter few days at work at the start of the week though so will hopefully get into the groove. think I am starting to see a difference - although the 6 pack is still encased in a layer of flab that is proving v tough to shift Wine

lovelyjubilly · 17/05/2019 20:48

Just finished Level 2 day 10 - yaaay!! I didn't make it as far as level 3 last time before discovering I was pregnant so I'm happy that I've got this far!

I'm going on holiday in a week though, staying in a house with my parents. I'm going to have to get up early for the first few days of my holiday aren't I? So that I don't have them gawping through the door at me huffing about.

There's no way I can get to L3D7 and give up is there?

clearsommespace · 19/05/2019 06:45

No you most definitely can't stop so close to the end!

Something went ping in my upper back yesterday so I won't be joining you for L2 today Sturmundcalm.

I just followed an upper back pain yoga video which has provided a little relief. I'm planning to do it again before bed in the hope I won't have another night of stabbing pains every time I turn over.

Sturmundcalm · 20/05/2019 17:09

sorry to hear that clearsomme - hope it fixes itself ASAP.

level 2, day 2 this morning (walked yesterday) and still struggling with some of the moves in terms of co-ordination - all the high/low with a twist ones I end up having to think about!

did find the first day of level 2 a shock. had watched it in advance but hadn't appreciated how much of a shift it was from mat-based and crunches to upright and cardio... been dripping sweat both days, and that's with me having 10 second pauses at points because I've abandoned all hope!
