Run Every Day February - who’s with me?

Myview2 · 01/02/2018 09:19

I got off to a bit of a slow start in January so have decided to embark on RED February instead (the shorter month makes me feel better about it!)

The plan is to run everyday but no pressure on speed or distance and some days it may well be a quick dash around the block as long as I get out there.

Having survived dry January (apart from one teensy glass of wine in the middle so maybe damp January) I have decided I will also give up sweets, chocolate, cake, ice-cream etc. I will allow myself savoury rubbish like crisps etc as I don’t tend to eat a lot of them anyway but sweet things are my weakness and I’ve been succumbing all too often!

So who is with me on the journey? We can all spur each other on.

I have no recommendations on backs but googled a couple of articles that might help:

I do yoga for runners and find a hot bath immediately after run helps.. In fact the bath is the best thing of running.
I get a lot of lumbar spine stiffness from running, agree it's a posture thing, I run with a curved lower back

theredjellybean · 09/02/2018 18:25

Myview 2... Hiit is horrid but effective and increases your overall fitness really quickly.
I joined red thread Cus though I run three times a week and do average 8-10km, it's easy to get stale and plod round same routes. I had stopped pushing myself.
So this is helping Cus I am doing different types of running on the other days.
If you can do a whole red month, then you'll be in a great position to mix it up..
Are you thinking about doing an event?
I found that was great motivation to go a bit further etc

elliejjtiny · 09/02/2018 23:03

Done, 5 laps this time. Ran most of it, walked bits. I ache a bit less this time, I must be getting fitter!

GrandOldDukeOfPorkiness · 10/02/2018 09:30

Just done today’s run. Went in opposite direction, meaning that I finished by going up two hills rather than beginning by going down them. My pace was only a second slower per mile though, so I think it could have been faster than usual if I had gone in the usual direction.

Am afraid I failed to run yesterday :(

applelolly · 10/02/2018 11:39

Morning all.
Have to admit that I also failed yesterday. Sad
However I have been out and done my 10k this morning. Was done by 9am Grin so feeling good for getting my long run out of the way. And I was 7 minutes faster than last week, every little helps!
Tomorrow will be dog walk and treadmill.
ellie well done, you are doing great building up those laps.
grand well done on today's run.

I'm now at hairdressers, feeling virtuous!

Myview2 · 10/02/2018 11:50

Well done Ellie and GrandOldDuke.

I’m just back, I did 0.8km to class then topped it up to 3km running home a longer route. Class was quite strenuous in the middle with lots of press ups, burpees and running piggybacks so a good workout today.

redjellybean-I have no plans to race until I’ve got much faster. I’m way off the pace I used to run when I ran regularly before (granted it was over ten years ago and pre-children) but I aspire to get back to the same times some day.

I have failed today too.. Didn't get to bed till 3am, too much red wine and then 8hours at work...

elliejjtiny · 10/02/2018 23:03

Done 6 laps. Made the mistake of asking fil who does a lot of running how far one lap is. He said about 40 metres so today I have run a grand total of 240 metres which seems unbelievably pathetic. On the bright side that's 240 metres more than I was running last week and one day I will be running distances I can be proud of.

Myview2 · 11/02/2018 00:29

Ellie-distance and time is irrelevant to this challenge so don’t let anyone put you down! That is 6 laps that you wouldn’t have done at all so well done you! You are doing great and keep going 👍

theredjellybean · 11/02/2018 07:30

Elite... Ignore your fil and try my running mantra 'some is better than none'
When I don't want to go, that's what I tell myself.. Well actually chant it in my head... You arw running more than the people sat at home thinking about running.
You could use an app to measure the distance, I use map my run.

applelolly · 11/02/2018 09:30

morning all.
ellie definitely don't stress over distance. In my opinion distance is easy to build up. The hard part is the getting out the door in the first place - and you are doing that! When I very first started running I had a 1k route round a foot path that I used. At first I could run maybe the first 100m of it then walked the rest. Then built up gradually. I still remember the day I ran the whole 1k and the feeling of achievement!

plan for the day is long dog walk and treadmill session....although it is currently snowing so hoping that stops later so I can get the dogs out. Glad I'm doing my long run today though!

applelolly · 11/02/2018 09:32

oh, yes and would agree apps are great for tracking runs. I use strava but mapmyrun and others all similar. I like how you can keep a record then of all your runs and see improvements! (although I have to make myself not be discouraged when I have a slow disappointing run!!)

vanillapancakes · 11/02/2018 17:03

so...what has everyone been up to today?
I managed a 3 mile dog walk which was lovely, all be it very muddy!! Didnt quite fit in the treadmill as well...but not too concerned!!

Myview2 · 11/02/2018 17:43

I’m just back, it was my shortest run so far and not at all speedy but in some I’m most pleased with it because I’ve had the most horrendous hangover all day!

If ever there was a day to talk myself out of it then it was today. Instead I changed out of my pyjamas at 5pm and into running gear.

I am never drinking again!!!

Such a shame as it’s been a nice day today, I bet your dog walk was lovely Vanilliapancakes.

ooops.....name change fail! Tis I....applelolly in disguise!! Wink
changed for another thread and forgot to change back! I like to keep it mixed up!

applelolly · 11/02/2018 18:32

back as myself!
well done myview I agree that is the runs that you do when you really, really don't want to that count the most. Get yourself a nice early night and you'll feel much better tomorrow.

theredjellybean · 11/02/2018 20:31

Myview... Blooming well done
Hangover is definitely a run excuse for me.
I did 4k quick, cold, miserable and bad run.
Did go though....

Myview2 · 12/02/2018 13:23

Yay, it’s Monday and the start of a brand new running week!

That’s a 5k done today. It was a wee bit windy which was useful for pushing me along on the way back Smile

Looking forward to hearing from you all soon. I have no snow, I suspect others might have-good luck!

Good job on your run yesterday Redjellybean-not easy when the weather is rubbish so even more kudos for getting it done. 👍

OP posts:
elliejjtiny · 12/02/2018 15:38

7 laps done yesterday, most of it running.

Myview2 · 12/02/2018 16:26

Brilliant Ellie! Well done, it was less than a week ago that you did two laps and now you’re running seven laps! Amazing progress.

applelolly · 12/02/2018 19:12

evening all
well done red, ellie and myview great going.
3k on the treadmill for me today as had to fit in after work whilst tea was in the oven due to various dc needing to be taken to/collected from various places all evening!
I did up the pace a bit from my normal outdoor snail like pace (was still snail like - just maybe a slightly younger, fitter snail!) so that was something. I'm off work tomorrow so will do a 5K (ish) in the morning - weather permitting.Grin

elliejjtiny · 12/02/2018 21:28

8 laps done tonight. Walked a bit of lap 3 but once I got to the half way point it got easier. Well done to everyone else too.

Asdwife · 12/02/2018 21:57

I haven't run for a whole week! Shock My tonsillitis has finally subsided and my toe is numb and tingly but not painful. Think I will try and get back on the wagon tomorrow and do a short slow run.
