Run Every Day February - who’s with me?

Myview2 · 01/02/2018 09:19

I got off to a bit of a slow start in January so have decided to embark on RED February instead (the shorter month makes me feel better about it!)

The plan is to run everyday but no pressure on speed or distance and some days it may well be a quick dash around the block as long as I get out there.

Having survived dry January (apart from one teensy glass of wine in the middle so maybe damp January) I have decided I will also give up sweets, chocolate, cake, ice-cream etc. I will allow myself savoury rubbish like crisps etc as I don’t tend to eat a lot of them anyway but sweet things are my weakness and I’ve been succumbing all too often!

So who is with me on the journey? We can all spur each other on.

Today’s run is done-hurrah! My intention was to run to a class this morning but when I arrived I discovered it was under 1km, I had run for less than 5 minutes and it was downhill all the way. I read ASDwife had run 2.5km and that inspired me to run back home again on a longer route so thank you! It was wet and cold but apparently I was faster although I suspect that was because I did two separate runs. Looking forward to the other updates Smile

can I join you? I have recently got back into running again after about a 5 year break!
I'm not sure I will RUN everyday but aim to either run (outside), do a good dog walk, or do a treadmill run.
So far I have done:
Thursday 1st - 5.2K run
Friday 2nd - 2.7K dog walk

was planning a long dog walk through the woods today - bit its pouring and cold and 2 of the dogs refuse to go out in the rain! I'm doing a longer run tomorrow so may just do a short treadmill session today...unless it stops raining Hmm

well done everyone on all your achievements. We can do this!

Welcome, applelolly!

Really struggling to get out today. It seems so intimidatingly cold and wet.

Great stuff Applelolly, looking forward to your updates. Now GrandOldDuke, I know it’s grotty out there but plod on you must! You’ll feel so much better after it and you can have a lovely warm shower or bath to reward yourself on your return. Now off you go! I’m getting bossy now and I expect you to do the same when I’m weakening!

Damn you! But I am getting my kit on...

Have done it. 1.5 miles for me today (ie half as much again as previous two days).

Hi both.
grandduke well done. Its so much harder getting out when its grey and wet.
myview well done on getting yours done today too.

I have done 2 miles on the treadmill, which I know is cheating a bit, but better than nothing! Going out for my longer run tomorrow. Aiming for around 9K but really hoping the weather is a bit better!

9k?! I am in awe of you! Are you a super experienced runner? How long did it take you to get up to that sort of distance?

Asdwife · 03/02/2018 17:36

I haven't done today's run yet. Waiting for my kids' dad to turn up so I can get out....could be waiting a while Hmm
Glad to hear I inspired you myview! I am doing a group 6 mile run tomorrow, never run further than 6k!

Well well well GrandOldDuke not only did you do, you smashed it! Good work on the treadmill too Applelolly, I’d definitely have opted for that if I had one. Any updates from ASDwife yet?

Everyone seems to be doing really well Smile I've done about 2k a day for the last 3 days, so not long runs but it's something

Thanks it feels good doesn't it! I'll be thrilled if I actually run every day during Feb. Decided not to do the 6 miles tomorrow but will probably do a 5k with my sister.

2k a day would be 56k by the end of the month though Blah!

morning all. some great runs going on.
I first started running about 7 years ago and built up from c25K where I could honestly not run for 30 seconds without thinking I was dying, to running a half marathon about 18 months later.I also lost 4 1/2 stone during that time. Sadly then life got in the way, I got out of the habit and stopped running and piled the whole 4 stone (plus some!) back on. Sad
Last October I bought a cheap (£80) treadmill off gumtree and it worked to get me back into running! I re-started outdoor running in Jan and am just building up again.I have (in a moment of madness) signed up for a 10K run in May with a friend from work - which is actually a good way to keep myself running as I cant back out now!! I do find running really good for my mood and mental health as well as the obvious physical benefits.
Anyway...just on my morning coffee then will drag myself out for a longer run. Hopefully around 9K again...we will see.
What runs has everyone else got planned for today? Grin

also has anyone come across "race at your pace"? You sign up to run so many miles in a month and if you complete it you get a medal and a running top at the end. (costs £14) You can choose 25,50,75 or more miles. 25 miles is only around 40K so could easily be done with short runs every day.
I have signed up for the 50 miles this month, but will include my dog walks and treadmill sessions to get to that. I am a sucker for a medal Grin

I was thinking of doing a 10k in May too, applelolly! I just saw a local one advertised and was quite tempted, though not sure if I can build up in time.

Going to check out “race at your pace” now. Have a good run!

Morning all. I signed up for a 10k in March prior to hurting my back and not running for the whole of January. Really not sure I can do it but I guess I'll know by the end of this month!
I am planning on doing around 5k today.
Good luck fellow runners!

done it! Managed to slightly increase last weeks 9K route and have done 10K. I'm really chuffed. That's my longest run so far (this time round)
grandduke there is lots of time until May. I started with 1.5 - 2 mile runs at the beginning of Jan so I would say you could be comfortably at 10K by May.
ads that's a shame about being injured. Take it steady and see how you go. There'll be other 10ks if you are not ready for this one.
I am finding it really helpful to have goal to focus on. Especially as I am doing it with someone from work so would have extra shame if I didn't manage it!!
Now going to have half an hour on the sofa watching netflix as reward for dragging myself out and managing 10K! Feeling virtuous!

It’s a beautiful day here, much nicer to run in than yesterday’s weather. So good news the run is done and more good news it was over 4K -whoop! I went with two children on bikes which was excellent for taking my mind off the actual running but it was much slower as there was some walking to cross roads safely and my son decided to throw himself off his bike a couple of times Confused He got a new bike for Christmas and appears to have forgotten how to steer so was constantly clipping at my heels while I zigzagged to get out the way. He also likes to ask constant questions as we go like ‘which countries get tornados?’ And ‘would a cactus poison a bearded dragon?’ It was like a blooming Mastermind Marathon! Great to hear about your fabulous runs, really inspiring stuff and I think I might actually start to enjoy running again soon.
