Run Every Day February - who’s with me?

Myview2 · 01/02/2018 09:19

I got off to a bit of a slow start in January so have decided to embark on RED February instead (the shorter month makes me feel better about it!)

The plan is to run everyday but no pressure on speed or distance and some days it may well be a quick dash around the block as long as I get out there.

Having survived dry January (apart from one teensy glass of wine in the middle so maybe damp January) I have decided I will also give up sweets, chocolate, cake, ice-cream etc. I will allow myself savoury rubbish like crisps etc as I don’t tend to eat a lot of them anyway but sweet things are my weakness and I’ve been succumbing all too often!

So who is with me on the journey? We can all spur each other on.

Why? I bet they will be really impressed!

Can I please join a bit late... I usually run 3-4 days a week but want to add short runs and a hiit run on other days. So far have run 3 out of five days... Maybe I could make up by doing two extra runs on two days ☺

Can I join? Going to start running with 11 year old ds1 tomorrow. I have a 4 year old who has a lot of operations and I'm struggling to keep up with the porters when they push the trolley back from theatre. Ds1 started secondary school and he's getting a bit on the chubby side now he's not running around the playground at school every day.

Welcome to all newbies, great to have you on board. I also say go for it with the lunchtime running GrandOldDuke, it’s nice to get out in the fresh air whilst it’s still daylight. Having said all that I’ll be running in the dark on Wednesday because I’ve got an all day meeting at work 😫 Well done one and all for today’s runs 🏃‍♀️

Love that you're going to run with your ds ellie! My dd sometimes asks to join me, she's only 5, so we run up the road and back again!
Thered what is a hiit run? Is it like interval running?

Report
theredjellybean · 06/02/2018 07:01

Yes hiit is high intensity interval training. I run for about 10mins gentle pace then run as hard as I can for two mins, then jog/walk for 1 min, then repeat. I used to manage 5 of these, then 10min run home. Haven't done it for ages but it's supposed to be excellent for fat burning 🔥!

morning all. checking in a bit late to say I did get out yesterday.!Was planning a nice long dog walk but after getting home at 5 I got called back into work unexpectedly so didn't get back home till 8pm! So I did short 2 1/2 K dog walk instead! Really didn't want to go out at all but thought of you all and dragged myself out! Not a run, but then my legs were still recovering from Sundays 10k!
Going to run tonight - hoping for around 4K. It will be after work in the dark though so will need to stick to lit routes.
total for Feb so far is 23.5 K

what has everyone got planned for today?

applelolly · 06/02/2018 07:10

oh, and well done everyone getting out yesterday - even in snow!

GrandOldDukeOfPorkiness · 06/02/2018 07:17

That’s brill, applelolly. I am in awe of your distances.

Tonight I will need to do another quick post work one on lit streets. Probably the same as yesterday though hopefully a bit less slow (not that that matters for this - it is just getting out that counts).

Report
applelolly · 06/02/2018 07:21

grand yes, no need to focus on pace! I am slower than a very slow snail, but not dwelling on it at this stage. Just focusing on getting out and building some distance. have a good one tonight.

That looks beautiful! You can’t back out though, not after you encouraged asd to run in the snow yesterday! (As long as it is safe underfoot, obviously!)

Did you manage in the snow Myview?
I have a really painful toe today that I can hardly walk on. It was tingling yesterday while I was running but thought it was down to the cold. I've googled it and it seems it might be a stress fracture from overdoing the running Shock Do the more experienced runners among us think this might be right?!

Report
theredjellybean · 06/02/2018 13:00

It could be, could also be toenails need cutting short?
I find my toes ram into front of trainers a bit and one in particular got so painful. I pad it with foam, over the top of toe now.

Report
theredjellybean · 06/02/2018 13:01

And that sorted problem

Report
Asdwife · 06/02/2018 13:32

Toenails are very short and I have new trainers that feel nice and padded and supportive. I can't put my weight on that foot at all.

Report
theredjellybean · 06/02/2018 14:31

Where is the pain exactly? Under ball of foot? Under heel? Or toes?
It is more likely plantar faschitis than stress #.
Plantar faschitis is common injury in people doing persistent exercise, such as running every day.
Might be good idea to see your GP and ask for x-ray to rule out fracture first

Report
Asdwife · 06/02/2018 14:36

It's where my 3rd and 4th toes are. I can wiggle them both and no pain but try and put weight down and the pain is unbearable.
Sorry to derail the thread with injuries so soon into the month! Blush

Report
Asdwife · 06/02/2018 14:57

Ok, figured out it's not actually a toe, it's the bit of foot below my 4th toe? Just prodded it on top and sole of foot and it was so painful!

Oh no sorry to hear about your foot ASDwife. I have just educated myself on stress fractures which seems to be a big no no for running so hopefully it’s not that. Maybe best rest the running until you get it checked out just in case.

The snow has melted so I got out for a run at lunchtime and dragged my husband along with me since he’s also working from home today. Of course strava cut out as I’d been gassing on my phone all morning but we ran for 35 mins so that was a bit longer than usual.

My legs were feeling a bit tight yesterday (no surprise as they’ve moved further than they usually do for the last 6 days) so I found a very short ‘yoga for runners’ 5 minute video on YouTube and that seems to have loosened things off again. It’s a Red Magazine one with Jules Oliver in it if any of you are looking for something similar.

Enjoy yours runs today 😁

Evening all
myview well done on a snowy - ish run! 35 mins is a good run
ads sorry to hear about your toe. I would agree you should rest it. Maybe book a gp app if it doesn't seem any better tomorrow

I dragged myself out after work in the flurries of snow. I wasn't really feeling it tonight and did a bit less than my planned 5k but managed 4.3k so not bad. I feel good for making the effort! Tomorrow will I think be dog walk and treadmill.

how has everyone else got on today?

I slogged round 7km, like a disabled tortoise... Slow, so slow. Today going for hiit... Gulp

Report
Myview2 · 07/02/2018 08:36

Good morning everyone. I’ve done 3km this morning, it’s a beautiful day. I had to fit it in before work today but it wasn’t as much of a slog as I had expected.

Enjoy you Hiit session later Redbean and your walk Applelolly.

GrandOldDuke and Ellie-how are you both getting on? How is the foot today ASDwife?

I’ve just realised we are already 25% of the way through RED February-hurrah!

Well done everyone 👏

I made it out yesterday! Didn't run far or fast but I did it. Not sure about distances but I ran twice round a small car park that has spaces for 10 cars. Will try and do 3 times tonight. My little one's next operation is booked for 21st February so hoping to see a bit of an improvement in my fitness by then.
