Panic moment, we were running out of room on old thread so started a new one for today's run reports Smile

Yes I did do a Christmas Day Parkrun alongside 866 others! It was crazy but pretty special.
The most Iv previous ran alongside at a parkrun is 400 so this was a whole new league!
Was great to see friends and I didn’t feel guilty about stuffing my face with chocolate!

Glad to hear a few of you also made it out.

Looking forward to the NYD double now, and a wee bit of volunteering added in.

Anyone got any parkrun goals for 2019?

HalleLouja · 01/01/2019 14:34

Many years ago I started running parkrun and used to post on here. I did my first 50 in just over a year but took just over 3 years to do my next 50.

So now I have done 100 runs and 24 different events. I am not sure if any of the original gang are still on here.

Standingonlego · 01/01/2019 16:55

Hi Halle - I recognise you ! Gone back to my old name to say hello.

Thanks Standing. Now my husband wants to parkrun so may take a while to get to 250.

nbee84 · 01/01/2019 17:32

Did my 1st ever parkrun today 😊 Kept running the whole way round and did 32:26!

StrongTeaDropOfMilkNoSugar · 01/01/2019 18:10

I volunteered at my local parkrun this morning and loved it. I used to volunteer more than run, but didn’t in 2018, so was great fun to be back cheering everyone on this morning. Lots of new runners too, and a really happy atmosphere Smile

runningpink · 01/01/2019 20:01

Welcome back Halle and well done on the 100th!

Nbee welcome to the wonderful world of parkrun! Fantastic that you ran all the way and fab time.
Strong I love volunteering as much of not even more than running at parkrun. Glad you enjoyed your morning.

I volunteered and ran this morning then jumped back in to volunteer on barcodes as we were swamped.
Then made a mad dash to do my second parkrun for the NYD double where I ended up offering to step in and barcode scan again as they were also swamped.
Thank goodness for the volunteer virtual app.
Great way to spend my morning.

givemushypeasachance · 02/01/2019 15:39

I did a NY double and the second event, at my home park, was crazy busy - over 900 people which is twice as many as we usually get. I had to queue to cross the finish line and get a time, not a lot of PBs around I shouldn't imagine! Volunteers all did a fab job, glad my timekeeping has only been on much smaller weeks though ha. Great way to start off a new year of parkrunning.

Iblinkedandiamold · 05/01/2019 22:56

Hi, I posted before about doing my first Park run. Still at it, I've done about 16 now I think. I still can't jog all the way yet but every week I jog more and walk less. I seem to be stuck at 34 mins but I am happy with that for now anyway.

Signed up for a mini marathon in June, so using this as training. I am hoping by June I will be able to jog the whole 5k. Not too bothered about time.

Geekster1963 · 08/01/2019 12:57

Hi, I've just found this thread and I'm new to parkrun. There was never one near enough for me to go to then a new one started locally at the beginning of November. It was the 10th one on Saturday. I've missed one as we were away but I've run 7 and volunteered at 2. I'm going to be the tail walker this week. I love it and have realised what I've been missing.

AuntieStella · 08/01/2019 13:37

I love being the tail!

EvaHarknessRose · 12/01/2019 15:59

Hi thanks for this thread I have been lurking Smile. I have just done my 4th run, really enjoying Parkrun of course. I'm a slow (very slow) and steady runner. The only thing is I have felt really wiped out all day Saturday the last couple of times. Please tell me that will improve? I don't run in the week but I do other exercise.

Iblinkedandiamold · 12/01/2019 16:17

I don't know EvaHarknessRose. I have done my 12th park run today and I am still exhausted on Saturdays. I do boot camp twice a week too.
I got a PB today. 31.47. I don't think that will repeated next week. Grin

EvaHarknessRose · 12/01/2019 16:38

I guess it shows we are trying hard 😁. Well done on your amazing pb.

FtangFtangOleBiscuitBarrell · 12/01/2019 22:53

I did my first ever Parkrun today - very proud of myself! 36:09, managed to run most of it with a couple of 60-90 second walking breaks. Did Clapham Common today, going to try to do Tooting next week - the nice man who sits next to me at work is doing every Parkrun in Greater London and he convinced me that it would be a fun thing for me to do.
Friday evening as we were heading out he got me to promise I'd do it and not to let him down so I'm really looking forward to telling him on Monday! Silly really, but most of the battle was deciding to do it and getting there. Once I started it was (comparatively) easy.

EvaHarknessRose · 13/01/2019 09:38

Well done Ftang. I find I enjoy it from halfway round the first loop.

megletthesecond · 13/01/2019 11:40

Our parkrun is getting too busy and some people are moaning about congestion and being told to keep right so the left can be an overtaking lane. I'd like to see them figure out how to run it safely without a slower and faster lane Hmm.

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 14/01/2019 14:29

I hear you @EvaHarknessRose

As of 1pm I’m dead but I’m also pregnant so that doesn’t help.

Talking of which can any parkrunners who’ve run through pregnancy tell me if a downturn in “performance” is normal?

I’m 19 weeks now and have lost 5 mins off my usual time.

Not that it’s a race!

MelanieCheeks · 08/02/2019 17:49

Oh Hi everybody!

I lost you there from my threads, but this is one of my favourite bits of Mumsnet.

And welcome aboard newcomers, hope you will grow to love parkrunning!

I have a spreadsheet ongoing at the minute - I am coming up to my 250 run, which I will want to do at my home location, but I'm also doing madcap Wilson Index chasing and going to Paris for the marathon (not me, a friend), and watching out for ice or wind cancellations....it gets quite complicated!

emummy · 08/02/2019 19:12

We have our inaugural Parkrun tomorrow, after it was postponed last week. I am on th committee, will be tail walking tomorrow. Fingers crossed for a smooth day! We are having to run our back up route after logging work has churned up the track we planned to use.

MelanieCheeks · 08/02/2019 20:32

Fingers crossed for a smooth first go!

emummy · 09/02/2019 12:56

Thank you! It went well, think the cafe made a fortune! My daughter loved her stint tailwalking with me, and dh did his first parkrun.

MelanieCheeks · 09/02/2019 13:45

Brilliant! I did the one that has just started up close to me, and I have many many gripes about it! I usually blog my parkrun adventures, but I'll have to try very hard to say positive things.

emummy · 09/02/2019 15:42

Oh dear! We have had lots of positive feedback for ours so far - we are in the north of Scotland, hope it wasn't ours!
