Panic moment, we were running out of room on old thread so started a new one for today's run reports Smile

Congrats to all runners and volunteers! My local had its first birthday at the weekend so lots of us were running in onesies to mark that - hot work and I was quite a bit slower than usual! Plenty of cake to enjoy afterwards as well.

There's a new one just set up a few miles away so I'll be visiting that soon for a bit of local tourism...

purplelass · 20/11/2018 10:11

Hello - just found this thread!

I went to my first parkrun on 6 Oct + did run no.7 on Saturday. I've knocked 5 mins off my PB in that time and lost half a stone!

I'm loving the changes I'm seeing in myself since starting parkrunning Grin

givemushypeasachance · 21/11/2018 14:51

Wow congrats purplelass - that's great going! You're 1/7th of the way to your first milestone as well. Have you thought about volunteering? It's a great way to get to know other people within the parkrun community, and to help events take place - since it is all organised and put on each week just by volunteers. I like to try to volunteer once every two months or so, and make up for missing the run before or afterwards. I can recommend finish tokens and barcode scanning as fun volunteer roles to try, though marshalling and cheering people on is pretty good too. Smile

AvonCallingBarksdale · 21/11/2018 20:47

I’ve done 20 Parkruns now (albeit 2 of them were in 2011!) and am absolutely loving it Smile. I’ve knocked 5 mins off since June and am down to 31:39 now. I think my original goal of sub 30 by the end of the year is looking a bit ambitious but I will get there. I’ve not been well this week so may volunteer on Saturday instead of running.

iVampire · 23/11/2018 16:32

It’s lovely reading about everyone’s progress!

I’ve had several really good Parkruns this autumn, and I’m volunteering tomorrow. Hope it’s not too chilly (rain not forecast, thank goodness)

Nice article here;

The prison parkruns are a really good innovation, having one in a youth detention facility sounds like a great idea!

This past weekend I touristed to the second run of the new Somerdale Pavilion parkrun, which is on a cyclocross course. It has a unique spiral feature in the centre called "the curly wurly", which someone recorded a run of if that doesn't make you too dizzy!

ForAMinuteThere · 29/11/2018 21:43

That Somerdale one is odd, they don't put all that roping up just for parkrun, do they?

CalmConfident · 01/12/2018 12:41

I was running late and the temptation to just have a cup of tea was strong...but I still went, missed the start by about 3 mins but caught tail walker up so all ok. So glad I did as feel so much more positive and energised. Well done to everyone who braved the wet and cold today Smile

CalmConfident · 01/12/2018 12:42

Love reading peoples parkrun stories, news and achievements on this thread

runningpink · 02/12/2018 21:03

Somerdale is part of a course for something else sonthe take/stakes are always there set up! ( I asked after the first event as I was having images of the Core Team being there at 7am to set up!)

Well done everyone for the amazing progress you are all making. There is just something about parkrun isn’t there.

I somehow managed a PB yesterday, took 28 seconds off my time! It’s now making me think can I mange a sub 23 one day.

Anyone got plans to go to a Christmas Day or New year double parkun?

I might do one on Christmas Day but think I will wait and see what weather is like as it’s a bit of a drive for me.
And I will be doing the double on New Year’s Day.

CalmConfident · 02/12/2018 21:30

We did Christmas day last year, it was a great start to the day :) Has the link to the list of all the Christmas and new year events been published yet?

runningpink · 03/12/2018 06:43

www.parkrun.org.uk/special-events/

Here you go but some haven’t declared yet. Think they have until the 12th.

givemushypeasachance · 03/12/2018 10:38

There are a couple of local runs who are doing an extra on New Years Day so and they stagger the starts so it should be possible to double again, always fun!

CalmConfident · 03/12/2018 15:18

Thank you running pink

runningpink · 14/12/2018 22:00

The full Christmas/New Year list is now available

megletthesecond · 15/12/2018 16:51

The runners had the easy part today.
I felt for the volunteers standing in the cold rain. The woman handing out finishing tokens with no gloves deserved a medal.

givemushypeasachance · 17/12/2018 09:08

The weather on Saturday was atrocious wasn't it - we had freezing rain and gusting strong winds, the fish sign blew halfway down the park at one point! I was doing my 50th (woo-hoo!) and it wasn't that conducive to people hanging around and eating the cake I'd brought...

runningpink · 17/12/2018 11:32

I had an awful run, slowest Iv been I think since June.
It was to cold and I just couldn’t breathe properly. Thankfully a friend caught up with me and got me round the route.
I normally hang around and help tidy every week but I headed for the cafe as it was so cold

runningpink · 24/12/2018 20:14

Anyone doing a Christmas Day run this year?

megletthesecond · 25/12/2018 12:23

We did running, did you go?
Not too shabby times either. No PB's but considering I was chatting and it was busy I did well. Maybe I'm finally getting better Hmm.

AuntieStella · 25/12/2018 20:24

I did. Closest ones weren't running, so I did a spot of localish tourism to a lovely Parkrun (which was much more reachable today what with clear roads and no parking restrictions). Brilliantly friendly (mince pies and cake from the regulars at the end) and I ran a nice time on a hilly course.

Great way to start Xmas, and (allegedly) to counterbalance all the sweeties later in the day (currently flat on sofa, with fudge within reach)

AvonCallingBarksdale · 25/12/2018 23:22

Yep I did my local Parkrun this morning and got a Pb for the year Grin

givemushypeasachance · 27/12/2018 11:00

Congrats to festive parkrunners! I visited some close to my family over the festive period, bit muddier than I'm used to. I'll be back at my local for some volunteering this weekend then it's the New Year's Day double on Tuesday!

Gymntonic · 27/12/2018 15:26

My local run is in North Wales but we're visiting friends in Glasgow this NY. Very tempted by the chance to run in a new city and maybe even two in a morning. Any Glaswegian runners care to share their preferred courses?
