Ok, what's a double Bushy?

And yes, it's quite a good idea to line up by anticipated finish time, even on a run (not a race)

Congestion is far worse as it's people who go slower who cause problems for faster ones behind at bottlenecks. Ours asks you to line up by expected time, but even then there's a quite a congested bit just after the start, but then there's a hill which sorts people out and nothing else is problematic.

No parkruns for me for a few weeks as doing other events. Really missed it yesterday thiugh. Well done on the PBs.

At my parkrun they hold up some signs with expected finish times to indicate roughly what sort of order to stand in.I have found I am best to start slightly further forward than my usual time otherwise can't get through the bottleneck at start. And the buggy runners can slot in wherever they want (usually near the front) as they are some of the fastest runners we have!

Any thoughts on a wwyd at junior parkrun? DS ran his first parkrun 2 weeks ago and said a guy (adult) swore at him and told him to shove off when DS overtook him.

We went again today and the same guy was there with his son. At one point he said to his kid 'that dog is running faster than you and it's a dumb animal'. He made similar comments to his child throughout. I was running behind them.

Should I say anything? We are new to parkrun.

Double Bushy:

Having run at the daddy of them all, Bushy Park London where it all began, and also at the 13 week old Bushy Park Dublin. Earning one a double Bush (Bushmills whisky, alternatives accepted).

They even gave me a name check in this week's run report, the wee skitters!

I ended up touristing at a new course on Saturday, nice park, mostly flat but three laps which I'm still not a fan off. Pleased with my time though Smile

Morning all . I am new to parkrun , have only done 2 but I love the ethos of the whole thing .

My local one is 3 laps and I find it a bit depressing going past the finish line and having to carry on so I am going to see if I can find another one. I did a local run a couple of weeks ago which was one big loop and enjoyed it a lot more .

For those of you who volunteer and know more about the organisation can you please answer something for me .

My 11 yr old ran with me on Sat and really enjoyed it and wants to do it regularly but the organiser on the day said that 11 and under can't run on their own they have to be within arms length of their adult but on the website it says under 11 ? He won't want to keep doing it if he has to run at my pace so do I just let him go off on his own ?

My local one is 5.5 laps. The woman doing the briefing at the one I did as a tourist on Saturday took one look at my apricot top and said "You'll like this one, it's only 2 laps". Grin

Bushy Park in Dublin is around 2 miles from my mum's house so will have to tick that one off next time I'm back...

BWatchWatcher I would report this to RD and ask them to do an announcement or email to remind everyone that kids are around and to mind their language etc.

DD (7) is doing her first this weekend so I am not going to chase a PB, I will run with her. She might not make it the whole way round but that's fine.

howlong I'm pretty sure it's under 11s that have to be accompanied by an adult so your 11 year old should be fine to run on their own.

I don't think I could regularly run a 5 lap course trijo - how do you know who is on which lap???

BWatchWatcher - (speaking with my Event Director hat on!) definitely speak to someone or, even better, email the event to report what happened both times. That way the info will get to the right person and there will be a record of it which may help them, especially if they have only had verbal reports so far. It is then up to them as to how they deal with it.
If it happened at our 5k event I would be fuming as it is totally inappropriate and completely against the parkrun ethos, at a junior event it's even more inappropriate Angry

Hopefully touristing over the next few weeks - Lowestoft on Saturday if we get organised enough to leave on Friday evening and Gorleston Cliffs the following week, numbers 17 and 18 on DS's countdown to 20.

feetheart · 15/05/2017 17:48

Howlong - 11 year olds can definitely run on their own. DS counted down the weeks to his 11th birthday from about 18 months out :) It's under-11s who have to be with an adult.

Thank you for the info about the under 11s he will be very happy . I will show him what it says on the website as well and explain the man just got confused .

Ours is a 2 lap course but I don't find that too bad. I've done an almost 4 lap course and I did find I was losing count Shock

Report
feetheart · 17/05/2017 23:12

Ours is 3 and a bit laps and 4 times up the hill - we do a call and answer thing during the run briefing:
RD - How many times up the hill?
300+ parkrunners - 4
1 small boy - "Too many" (and it's not my DS this time!)

We are doing our first park run as a family tomorrow. I will stick with DD (7) this week as it's her first time. In the subsequent weeks DH will stick with her

It's "fathers and daughters" theme for the parkrun UK photo collage, DeepFried, if that appeals. A start line or post run photo is fine. Have a great family run, that sounds lovely!

No parkrun for me, I'm on stepson duty.

I'm doing my second parkrun tomorrow. I haven't run at all in about 2 weeks (my DDad died suddenly, so things have been chaotic), so I suspect it'll be hard going. but 3 months ago I couldn't run 200m without keeling over and I was last the first time I did a parkrun so I can't do any worse!

Does it count as a PB when it's only your second parkrun? Grin

Not exactly speedy (38.09), and just over 45 seconds faster, but I'm delighted with myself.

Knackerelli · 20/05/2017 20:55

Absolutely, vviola, take that pb with pride!

💐 about your ddad, many condolences xx

Today I ran with dd who hasn't run for a while so I said we'd take it easy. Had a lovely jog round with her and chatting 😃

Pb counts no mater how many parkrun's you've done Smile

I had a 5k race Friday and 10k tomorrow so no parkrun for me today. Visiting wimpole next Saturday Smile
