New year C25K. Anyone care to join me?

So, new year, new me, etc, etc.
I've done C25K before, then a program up to 10k.
Although I found lots of it hard, it did wonders for my health and fitness and also for my mental health.
But, then I stopped. I can't even remember why now.
So, I'm back at the beginning. The advantage I have this time is that I know I can do it as I've done it before.
It's pissing it down here, but I'm going to go and do it anyway. Grin
Anyone else?

Also late to the party but will join. I started c25k in November on my treadmill but after struggling to move from week 3 to week 4 and repeating W3D3 loads of times I decided to try outside. What a difference it made! I then got as far as W4D3 (I have the zen labs app which is more staggered than others I think) but then Christmas got in the way and I didn't run between 23rd December and yesterday. So I'm now back to W4D1 which I know is further than most but hopefully I will be able to motivate you all to continue as the more runs I complete the more I realise I can do it Smile.

beanhunter · 07/01/2017 22:28

W3r3 done. Much less vile as not so cold!

EmilyDickinson · 07/01/2017 23:49

I haven't run for the last couple of days as I'm not very well, but I'm still reading the posts and applauding all of the rest of you.
Hoping to get my trainers back on soon.

Thingvellir · 08/01/2017 11:33

Just completed W1D2 (a day late, didn't manage to get out yesterday!). It was ok, but the extra two runs took me a bit by surprise, was a hot sweaty mess by the end, particularly as the last part of my route is up hill!

CaptainBraandPants · 08/01/2017 14:27

We are all doing so well. Flowers all round, I think.
I'm especially impressed with those that have kept going after the intervals have finished.
Emily hope you feel better soon.
I'm feeling bit stiff today, so am going to do a bit of yoga later to try and loosen up.

Need to go do W2D2 but don't want to.
Will vacuum the stairs first then get my trainers on.

Only 30 minutes and I will feel great after... Feel better soon Emily and enjoy the yoga Captain.

KickAssAngel · 08/01/2017 17:20

Just done W3D1. I found it hard, but did it.

I had problems sleeping last night so woke up tired and achy anyway, with a headache. This run had the first 2.5 min runs in it, and they took quite a bit of will power but I did it. The next run is exactly the same so should be easier as I'm used to it.

However - Tues is kickboxing and I know I may not be able to move for several days after. I also have school/family things on Weds, Thu, & Fri, so Sat is my next chance to do the run. I'm hoping that by Sat I will have recovered from kickboxing but not forgotten how to do the running bit.

Howlongtillbedtime · 08/01/2017 17:56

WK 2 r1 done today .

Really enjoyed it but was harder than yesterday as I didn't have a day off in between but I am going to struggle during the week because of work and family stuff .

half I hope you made it out and feel better for doing it . the hardest part of the run is stepping outside and just getting on with it .

halfgirlhalfturnip · 08/01/2017 19:08

Thanks bedtime , did it but found it tough. Also did not sleep well last night Angel and been a bit grumpy and reluctant all day but yippee - did it

Ice3 · 09/01/2017 02:30

I hope it's not too late to join?

I started C25K a few months ago but I got a cold and just never got back to it. I don't know why because it made me feel really good. I would really like to do a 5k this year so need to start again. I'm going to do w1d1 tomorrow (well later!)

KickAssAngel · 09/01/2017 02:36

I was just thinking that when (if?) I get to the end of this it will be the end of Feb, and maybe I could think about 5k to 10k, and starting to run outside. Then I remembered that it will still be very much sub-zero, probably with snow on the ground, and the start of tornado season.

By the time it's warm enough to run outside it will be way too hot - at least 80 degrees F.

I'm doomed to a lifetime in the basement with the cat litter.

jesstar · 09/01/2017 11:24

Did W2R1 this morning, it was surprisingly harder than I thought it would be. It was milder out though. Hoping my stamina is slowly going to improve, otherwise I could be stuck on W2 for a long time!

ChickenPoop · 09/01/2017 12:24

Jess you will get there. You might have to repeat some days/weeks. The first time I did w1d1 it took at least three attempts, I was SO unfit Blush. You will surprise yourself if you stick with it. I remember the elation of completing w5d3, which in my app is a 20 minute run - no walking break. I actually found it harder going back to the walk/runs in week 6.

Go slower than you think you need to.

I'll be doing w1d3 tonight (this is my third c25k).

beanhunter · 09/01/2017 13:37

Did w4r1 today. Seemed a massive step up!

halfgirlhalfturnip · 09/01/2017 15:18

Intriguing Angel - I was picturing you in Canada 🇨🇦 but now... just nosey not stalkery 👀 ..

ChickenPoop · 09/01/2017 15:22

W1d3 done. I was too fast and too hot but finished.

Next run on Wednesday.

KickAssAngel · 09/01/2017 16:40

Halfgirl - I'm in Michigan. If I drive east from my house I end up in Canada. It's about an hour away.

jesstar · 09/01/2017 19:26

Thanks Chicken, I know it has to be a little difficult, no pain no gain I guess! I didn't realise when you repeat it that you start again from Week1, is that because you have to keep running 5k-ish regularly to keep your stamina up? I was thinking of reducing to 30 mins twice a week to maintain, but not sure I will manage that.

Well done to everyone pushing through, onward and upwards :)

cuntspud · 09/01/2017 20:10

Well done on everyone's progress so farGrin
So I was meant to start last week but found every excuse not to go! I made myself make a start tonight and actually it wasn't half as hard as I thought it was going to be. Glad it was dark thoughBlush

ChickenPoop · 09/01/2017 21:20

Jess I started from the beginning because I've done literally no exercise since October Blush. My legs can carry me but my lungs are dead. Cardiovascular fitness declines fairly quickly and I'd rather start slow than disappoint myself. I also know how very difficult I find running once I get to 27mins plus so I'd rather build a decent base.

Evilstepmum01 · 09/01/2017 22:17

Hello! Well chuffed to see theres a C25K thread on here! I started yesterday-took the dog with me too, he loved it!
My legs were killing me this morning tho! Did boxercise tonight also so arms are equally sore! Rest day tomorrow!

Has anyone had any problems with sore shins? I think I need to do more warm up stretches! Also, can you use spotify at the same time as the app is running? Every time Jo Whiley speaks, I bloody jump! Grin

Just catching up. Well done everyone, you are all doing great.
Jess I found w2r1 harder than I expected. However, I did w2r2 last night and it was easier than I expected! So, maybe that'll work for you too.
Kick thank you for telling us where you are, I was getting very nosycurious. Grin
Evil welcome and well done on starting. Sore shins can be shinsplints. I think that's a good article about them. I get them sometimes and I think it it important to warm up properly and I would never skip the 5 minute intro walk. Stretches afterwards are important, too.
Scarf I think the received wisdom is that if the symptoms are above the throat, you are alright to exercise. I'd wait and see how you feel.

Rest day today, then w2r3 tomorrow, hopefully.

Looks like I'll be running in the snow tomorrow! Grin

halfgirlhalfturnip · 10/01/2017 16:44
