New year C25K. Anyone care to join me?

CaptainBraandPants · 01/01/2017 08:44

So, new year, new me, etc, etc.
I've done C25K before, then a program up to 10k.
Although I found lots of it hard, it did wonders for my health and fitness and also for my mental health.
But, then I stopped. I can't even remember why now.
So, I'm back at the beginning. The advantage I have this time is that I know I can do it as I've done it before.
It's pissing it down here, but I'm going to go and do it anyway. Grin
Anyone else?

half It is lovely to virtually do it together, means I am more likely to continue, as well.
Bad well done and don't worry, no one will laugh. I looked like a large yellow blob the other day and no one laughed. I had my earphones in and wouldn't hear them anyway. The runners who see you will just be jealous and want to get out there themselves for a run and those that don't run, don't count.
granny I always forget my gloves, I find my sleeve works well. Grin
Feed well done.
Thing welcome. I think a mud run mid March sounds like a good goal, albeit rather cold!

Just completed day 2 week 1 and my legs are like jelly now! Seemed to go really quickly today, which was good. Roll on Friday for round 3.
Hi to all the new posters, hopefully we can keep each other motivated to carry on to the end.

halfgirlhalfturnip · 04/01/2017 16:13

I'm waiting for dark for W1R3.
For those who have done it before, do you usually manage to move up every week? I expect I will be having a few do overs 😳

SweetPeaPods · 04/01/2017 16:31

What is everyone's view or running while full of cold? Dh thinks it will make me feel worse. I'm not sure.

KittyandTeal · 04/01/2017 16:38

I just wanted to come on a say well done for starting.

I did c25k just under 2 years ago now. I have done a handful of 10ks, a half and will be running London in April.

Running has changed my life, my mental health (bpd) is much more stable, my disordered eating is under control, it has helped me work through grief, given my massive self confidence and a way I proved body image (as in I feel better about myself, not just looking better iyswim)

Starting is really tough, the nothing to 5k is way harder than 5-10k or even to a half.

There are a few projects that are great, this girl can run is brilliant and I also love Kelly Roberts run selfie repeat blog/vlog is brilliant. She talks about Howard it is, especially to get started but has pushed through it all. The American ps you got this project is also good inspiration for getting started. All based on normal women getting running, none of the stupidly athletic models.

Keep going!

KittyandTeal · 04/01/2017 16:39

Sweet generally the rule is anything above the neck is fine to run with (you'll probably feel better, I shift colds much quicker if I run through them) Anything below the neck then stay at home.

KickAssAngel · 04/01/2017 16:45

I signed myself up for some kickboxing classes, then thought I'd better try getting a bit fit before then. I've just done Week 2 day 2. Kickboxing starts next week.

Where I live it's about -10 degrees before you allow for wind factor, with snow coming down, so I def. use the treadmill. I've found in the past that it's much easier on the treadmill and I struggled to run outside. Next time we get temps above freezing (which could be March or later) I'll drop back a couple of weeks and go to my local park (which conveniently has 3 mile loop of paving).

Running with a cold - if you have a temperature, don't. You can make it spike. If just snotty, it depends. Can you start out and see how it goes? Take loads of tissues. You might suddenly decongest!

Enjoyed my run this morning, not too cold with a cap and gloves on. Only D2(W1) though, I was looking at the coming weeks where you have to run for longer ... not looking forward to the continuous >20 min runs ...

Also running in the morning when it's dark. Hopefully by the time it gets lighter in the mornings, I'll be (slightly) less wobbly ;)

beanhunter · 04/01/2017 19:48

Wk3r2 done. Hard.

halfgirlhalfturnip · 04/01/2017 19:52

W1D3 done - great and horrible.

Def should have had gloves!
Weather and our stamina will soon improve. That's a lovely inspiring post [kitty] , glad you have benefitted so much.

halfgirlhalfturnip · 04/01/2017 19:57

Oops bold fail - glad I'm not on one of the main threads. Can't remember in phone how to do it Blush

waiting4inspiration · 04/01/2017 20:13

W1D2 completed here too. Started raining just after I went out so had to return to put phone in a ziplock freezer bag so it didn't get wet. Felt good to be back running and being given permission to walk although the five minute brisk walk back seems to be just a bit too long and walking into the wind and drizzle was a bit chilly. Anyone else thinking of doing alternate days running?

CaptainBraandPants · 04/01/2017 21:47

Thanks for that inspiring post kitty, something for us to aspire to.
jess I remember last time thinking I would never be able to do week ?5 - the continuous 20 minute run. But you know what? I did it. It wasn't pretty, but I felt ecstatic afterwards. And this time, I know I can. Speed doesn't matter.
waiting I'm planning to do alternate days, as much as possible. I've got my last week 1 run tomorrow.
Well done to everyone who ran today, I couldn't see you for dust. Grin

Sorry, don't know why that double posted.

Which version are people using? Before I downloaded one, I found several different apps called Couch to 5K. They varied between taking 5 weeks to get to 5 K and 12!

I think the one I got was aiming for 9 weeks. To go from nothing to running 5K in just 5 weeks seems pretty ambitious.

So far I've found each one do-able, although I haven't always loved every minute. I'm not left aching and exhausted either, which I think is about the right level of progress.

Yay! Well done Scarftown. It does look cold out there. I didn't have time to run yesterday so must go today or I fear it'll be all too easy to let it slide. I remember last year that I got to the point where I was looking forward to my run and eager to go. Not quite there yet!

EmilyDickinson · 05/01/2017 13:01

D4 W1 done. It's a lovely day to go running here. Bright and sunny with a bit of frost.

CaptainBraandPants · 05/01/2017 13:07

Kiss I'm using the NHS podcast, which is a 9 week program, too. I agree, unless you have a degree of fitness to start with, 5 weeks seems too quick.
Scarf Yay! well done. The first is the worst. Well done to you, too Emily Have you done a fourth week one run, then? Are you waiting a bit to go to week 2?

I'm hoping to get home for about 4pm skiving early to do my third w1 run, think I'll need a hat as well as my gloves today as it is literally freezing.
But, if we can do it in this weather, we can do it any time. Grin

KickAssAngel · 05/01/2017 13:54

I'm in the US and the NHS one didn't come up when I searched for apps. I had to pay a wopping $2.99 for my app!

I'm thinking that when the kick-boxing starts, I'll do that on Tue & Thu, then do a run over the weekend. I'm assuming that the kickboxing will mean I can skip some of the runs on the app, as the warm-up for kickboxing is generally 15 minutes of running.

halfgirlhalfturnip · 05/01/2017 14:04

I am following the one where you do 3 runs a week - 4 seems a tad ambitious for me.

Thingvellir · 05/01/2017 14:07

I've just done it! W1R1. And I survived! It wasn't too bad, but if I'd had to run longer than the lady in the app said, it would have been really difficult...

I did realise half way through that the price tag on my brand new running jacket was still attached and flapping about on my shoulder Blush

As Feed said up thread - all the gear and no ideaGrin

EmilyDickinson · 05/01/2017 14:14

CaptainBraandPants I'm not quite sure whether to go straight on to week 2 or not. I've done 4 runs in 5 days but am quite busy tomorrow so probably won't be able to run then anyway. Last time I found that sometimes I struggled with the step up from week to week so sometimes needed to repeat runs and I wasn't fit enough to do the programme in a shorter time than recommended. In fact I took a bit longer.

Cheekybiscuit · 05/01/2017 15:55

Wk1 Day 2 completed! Really struggled to get around today. Combination of asthma and a bleeding blister made it feel hard going. Pleased though that I completed it Smile Good luck to everyone else.
